User access has been managed efficiently and coding tasks are streamlined through secure workflows
Pros and Cons
  • "For the code side, it was very secure, and when it comes to user management, it was very user-friendly; the onboarding process was easy, and adding and managing users was straightforward."
  • "It is hard to answer whether I would advise someone to use Perforce because the market has moved far ahead of Perforce."

What is our primary use case?

I worked as a DevOps engineer for a company like Axoft, where I held roles as a system engineer, cybersecurity specialist, and software engineer. I have accumulated almost 10 plus years of experience across different streams, domains, and clients, using various tools. As part of my day-to-day responsibilities, I build, deploy, troubleshoot, and support systems whenever needed.

My experience with Perforce tools was primarily related to code check-in. I also handled user management responsibilities, such as providing credentials and repository access to new users joining the company. Initially, I struggled with the check-in process because it was new to me, but after that initial period, I found it straightforward. As part of my role, I learn new tools continuously, and that initial struggle was just part of the learning process.

The best features Perforce offers from my experience are user administration and code management. After that initial project, I never received exposure to more Perforce tools and never worked with another client using Perforce. I used it for almost two years on that one project.

Previously, I used different solutions before Perforce, which were Subversion and ClearCase. Since my Perforce experience was about 10 years ago and not recent, I felt that Git and Bitbucket were better options in recent times. They are decentralized repositories with options that felt more appropriate, which is why I shared those same preferences with you.

What is most valuable?

The best features Perforce offers from my experience are user administration and code management. Both the user administration and code management made those features useful in my day-to-day work. Everything has its own pros and cons. For the code side, it was very secure, and when it comes to user management, it was very user-friendly. The onboarding process was easy, and adding and managing users was straightforward.

Regarding specific outcomes or metrics, such as time saved or reduced errors, I noticed improvements were quite direct. Code check-in, check-out, and all those command line operations were fine. The UI was easy to access. If I were to see the current upgraded version of your tool, I might be able to evaluate what the past looked like compared to what the current version offers. However, based on what I know from my experience, that is what I can comment on.

What needs improvement?

Perhaps you should focus mostly on Identity Access Management for Perforce, as the market is heading toward IAM, and it has become mandatory. Additionally, based on my experience, I would suggest trying to use a decentralized approach similar to Git, where when a user clones the repository, it becomes their own repository. This decentralized method is what Git is doing right now, and implementing it might help the company.

If you take a decentralized approach to the repository, it would be easier for users. Additionally, implementing Identity Access Management aligned with current cybersecurity tools in the market might also help the company. Focusing in that direction would be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I used Perforce on only one project for almost two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Perforce is stable in my experience. I felt downtime only one time, but it was not significant.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Perforce's scalability was fine. The security and everything was straightforward. The code and everything was pretty much fine. The users were doing well. Handling users and managing increases or decreases in user count was straightforward. The administration aspect was easy.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support was fine. When the license renewal came into the picture, we reviewed and checked with customer support. The response was quick.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I used different solutions before Perforce, which were Subversion and ClearCase. Since my Perforce experience was about 10 years ago and not recent, I felt that Git and Bitbucket were better options. They are decentralized repositories using decentralized approaches.

How was the initial setup?

Perforce was deployed in my organization as on-premises because at that time, there was no cloud option available.

What was our ROI?

I did see a return on investment with Perforce in the sense that managing the users and the work was taken care of fine. However, regarding return on investment overall, I am probably not the right person to comment on that because it is higher management who can provide insights on that, not me.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is hard for me to remember the pricing, setup cost, or licensing for Perforce. I think the licensing was based on user count. I felt the pricing was a little higher at that time, which is what I heard from my boss.

What other advice do I have?

I never used Perforce Delphix. I only used the Perforce version control tool, which was around eight or nine years ago. We were checking in code and doing builds from there using Jenkins for build and deployment. I never used Perforce Delphix.

Maybe this sounds odd because it is a version control tool and there is nothing more to define about it. It is simply a version control tool where you secure your code. Based on my experience, it was fine. However, I do not know how far you have updated the tool since it has been 10 years, so I cannot comment on the current state because I did not use it recently.

Maybe single sign-on would be a useful feature. I do not remember the specific tool name, but that is just a suggestion.

It is hard to answer whether I would advise someone to use Perforce because the market has moved far ahead of Perforce. I have not used Perforce recently, so it is hard for me to advise anyone to use it. Without knowing much about the current state, I cannot advise someone. I am not the right person to advise on this matter. Overall, I would rate this review an 8.

Virtual data management has transformed test environments and now saves hours on database refreshes
Pros and Cons
  • "Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization by reducing the time it takes to create the database, as the creation of D-source and VDBs is completed in five to ten minutes, which represents a significant time reduction."
  • "For improvement purposes, the automation part needs to be improved in Perforce Delphix."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Perforce Delphix is for creating D-source, provisioning virtual database, and data virtualization purposes.

A quick specific example of how I use it for source provisioning or data virtualization is that Perforce Delphix enables the rapid provisioning of data for the virtual database, reducing database refresh time from hours or days to minutes. Data virtualization helps to save significant storage space compared to maintaining multiple physical database copies.

What is most valuable?

The best features that Perforce Delphix offers are the Test Data Management, which we are using for the central monitoring, TDM, or DCT, Data Controlling Tower.

What I appreciate most about the central monitoring and Data Controlling Tower features is that by using the Test Data Management, we can monitor on a single platform. We can monitor all the engine's data, such as the D-source, VDB, and all user entries there. It is very easy to remove or add the particular VDB, D-source, and engine.

Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization by reducing the time it takes to create the database. By using Perforce Delphix, the creation of D-source and VDBs is completed in five to ten minutes, which represents a significant time reduction.

What needs improvement?

For improvement purposes, the automation part needs to be improved in Perforce Delphix.

We need to add the Kubernetes cluster parameters to the sites, and more detailed documents should be available on the Perforce site regarding how to configure Kubernetes for the DCT.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Perforce Delphix in the last five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Perforce Delphix is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Perforce Delphix's scalability is more reliable, and there are more user-friendly options available. A user can directly refresh their database using the GUI options, which are available from Perforce Delphix, which we call the DCT.

How are customer service and support?

My experience with customer support was good. We raise cases with the Perforce Delphix support team, and we receive responses from them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not previously used a different solution; we are using Perforce Delphix only.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment in the form of time saved for Perforce Delphix. I am not familiar with the licensing cost, but it is a time saver by using Perforce Delphix virtualization.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is mainly based on our usage. If there are engines we are not using, we decommission that engine. However, this is mainly managed by the product owner, so I do not have much insight into the pricing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have not evaluated other options before choosing Perforce Delphix.

What other advice do I have?

The advice I would give to others looking into using Perforce Delphix is that the main advantage is that it is time-saving and the best virtualization tool for creating the VDB and D-source. Within a few seconds, we can create the VDB and D-source, and it is user-friendly. I rate this product an 8 out of 10.

Time travel across test environments has accelerated rollbacks and streamlined release workflows
Pros and Cons
  • "It enabled us to keep multiple projects on the go, test out various scenarios, and roll back to previous versions, and it was very robust, very solid, and very useful in that capacity."

What is our primary use case?

For my main use case, I use Perforce Delphix for test environment and release management. Being able to go back in time and do time-lapse information on Perforce Delphix, along with the ability to revisit previous builds and configurations and redeploy code on Perforce Delphix, enables me to go back in time in terms of environments.

In one case with Perforce Delphix, I had 43 environments with multiple projects on the go. We had various branches of releases. Perforce Delphix enabled us to go to different points and utilize the systems, do snapshots, and roll back for different projects to different environment builds and configurations. It was really good at that. It enabled us to keep multiple projects on the go, test out various scenarios, and roll back to previous versions. It was very robust, very solid, and very useful in that capacity.

Regarding my main use case with Perforce Delphix, we used it for the coordination of rollbacks and releases, being able to utilize solid configuration management, and being able to manage the databases in a better way.

    What is most valuable?

Environment management with Perforce Delphix was the most useful feature. Data masking was a feature which was there because we could take snapshots from production, carry out data masking, and utilize that on non-production environments, especially pre-production or staging environments. That worked really well and was a good feature in Perforce Delphix.

Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization as it saved a lot of time. Being able to roll back and utilize the existing infrastructure without having to stand up new environments enabled us to save time on the number of environments, even though we had quite a few anyway. It stopped us from having to build more and kept multiple projects on track and in stream. The main advantage for us was the time saved.

    What needs improvement?

I cannot answer that regarding Perforce Delphix at the moment as I would have to see what the new versions offer.

Perforce Delphix is a great product that I find very useful.

Regarding Perforce Delphix's AI capabilities, I think its governance and security are very good.

I have not had enough dealings with the AI side of Perforce Delphix to be able to give an answer on that.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Perforce Delphix for about three years on and off, but continuously for about two to three years. There have been obvious gaps, and it has been upgraded. I have revisited the company recently, so I have historical knowledge on Perforce Delphix.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Perforce Delphix is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Perforce Delphix is very scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Perforce Delphix is very good and excellent. I would rate the customer support for Perforce Delphix on a scale of 1 to 10 as a nine.

    What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment with Perforce Delphix, as we needed fewer employees.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Regarding my experience with pricing, Perforce Delphix is not cheap. I have no issues with licensing.

Data virtualization has transformed test environments and delivers rapid HIPAA-compliant masking
    Pros and Cons
    • "Perforce Delphix has impacted my organization positively by making us much more service-oriented and creating an in-house service that is listed in the application catalog and advertised as the go-to service for internal users to de-identify sensitive PHI and PII data."
    • "Sometimes the complexity of virtualization needs much more documentation, which is what I think could be improved with Perforce Delphix."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Perforce Delphix is a split between data de-identification and data virtualization. We have very large databases that we need to create virtual copies of and then de-identify those as test data for offshore compliance. Our databases require a complete certification of data de-identification for offshore compliance so that offshore developers are not working on real or unprotected data.

    What is most valuable?

The best features Perforce Delphix offers are very fast turnaround in creating new database copies and ease of both profiling and data de-identification to HIPAA standards.

The fast turnaround and ease of profiling help my team day-to-day by allowing quicker access to necessary data.

Perforce Delphix has impacted my organization positively by making us much more service-oriented and creating an in-house service that is listed in the application catalog and advertised as the go-to service for internal users to de-identify sensitive PHI and PII data.

The results I have seen from becoming more service-oriented include being able to reduce the refresh cycle of very large 50-terabyte databases from once or twice a year to once a month.

    What needs improvement?

The application of AI and the ability for the AI agent to help with the install of Perforce Delphix appliances and automation of the data de-identification jobs could greatly benefit from AI capabilities.

We would like to see improvements in the network and firewall connectivity between the Perforce Delphix engine and the databases.

Sometimes the complexity of virtualization needs much more documentation, which is what I think could be improved with Perforce Delphix.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Perforce Delphix for the past seven years, maybe a little longer.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Perforce Delphix is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is very robust with Perforce Delphix.

How are customer service and support?

We have had excellent customer support through the Perforce Delphix support portal.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used several solutions previously before choosing Perforce Delphix, including IBM Optum and the Compuware product.

    What was our ROI?

Most of the ROI comes from improved access to data that is hard to quantify but definitely benefits the organization.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is that pricing was generally good. However, we implemented incrementally, and setup costs were significant over seven to eight years. We ultimately evolved into an enterprise licensing agreement that is currently in place.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Perforce Delphix, I evaluated other options, including IBM Optum and Compuware RDX.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others looking into using Perforce Delphix is to make sure that the use cases driving a Perforce Delphix virtualization and/or Perforce Delphix data de-identification project are a good match for Perforce Delphix capabilities.

I haven't seen the full explanation of governance and security in Perforce Delphix's AI, so I cannot comment on its governance and security.

The AI capabilities are currently mid-flight, so I cannot comment on their accuracy and reliability of output.

I would rate this review a 9 out of 10.

Automation has transformed data masking and fast non‑prod refresh for secure testing
    Pros and Cons
    • "Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization as the migration became fast, because earlier migration took four months to migrate our data from prod to non-prod, and now it is just a one-day or two-day task."
    • "They should improve their support system for the API."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Perforce Delphix at Dell Technology is to automate refresh, replication, and masking.

We have used Hangfire to automate the Perforce Delphix API for migration, data masking, refresh, replication, SnapSync, Snapshot, and Gold VDB. We are using automation for all steps through Hangfire.

We are using Perforce Delphix to move main production data to non-prod data for our testing, implementation, and development purposes. We need to mask or encrypt the production data to the non-prod environment, which is a very useful tool we have been using for the last eight years in our project.

    What is most valuable?

Data masking is the best feature Perforce Delphix offers in my experience.

It encrypts our entire production data and brings all data to non-prod data with some fake data or masked information that hides all the emails, contact addresses, and other sensitive data.

DCT is also good, as all the engines now come into one portal, which is a good feature.

Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization as the migration became fast. Earlier, migration took four months to migrate our data from prod to non-prod, and now it is just a one-day or two-day task.

It helps productivity, and data availability is fast now, which helps development and testing significantly.

    What needs improvement?

They should improve their support system for the API.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have worked in my current field for 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Perforce Delphix is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Perforce Delphix's scalability is good and reliable, and we have been happy with this tool for eight years.

How are customer service and support?

Customer support for Perforce Delphix is good. For other databases like SQL and Oracle, it is good, but for other databases like MongoDB and DocumentDB, which we are newly implementing, we are lacking some support. For SQL and Oracle, it is very good, however, we are facing some problems with MongoDB.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution before Perforce Delphix.

We have not used any other solution; we are only using Perforce Delphix.

    What was our ROI?

Employee-wise, it is more reliable because earlier we had about 10 DBAs, and now we can use this tool with only two to three DBAs, which means it has reduced the cost employee-wise.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We are using only Perforce Delphix, so we do not need any other review.

What other advice do I have?

Perforce Delphix is a good tool, and I would give this advice to others looking into using it. I give this product a rating of 10.

Robust CI/CD pipelines have supported decades of code history and complex multi-file workflows
    Pros and Cons
    • "The best aspect of Perforce Delphix is the multi-modality and the ability to handle a large number of files along with decades of commit history since the inception of Synopsys."
    • "One area where Perforce Delphix could be improved is the ability to handle thousands of files more efficiently."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case is the CI/CD pipeline itself, which is used across the entire organization, ranging from developer tools to production-related tools.

    What is most valuable?

I have been using Perforce Delphix, the Helix version, for more than four years since I joined Synopsys. Perforce Delphix is the primary CI/CD and source control version management system here.

Perforce Delphix is used for our products, and even though Git is also available, we primarily use Perforce Delphix for one set of products. The best aspect of Perforce Delphix is the multi-modality and the ability to handle a large number of files along with decades of commit history since the inception of Synopsys. This gives us a huge advantage of something well-established compared to other tools, which makes Perforce Delphix a significant advantage. An example would be the standard CI/CD pipeline that goes from development to production branches.

The branching and merging process in our CI/CD pipeline does not have anything particularly unique; however, the advantage is that Perforce Delphix is able to handle a large number of files. I would say that it is able to handle thousands of files.

The most standout feature of Perforce Delphix is its ability to have multiple change lists, which is something Git does not have in a single sandbox version in a single client. Perforce Delphix has this ability and the capability to move changes from one client to another client. These are some of the standout features.

    What needs improvement?

One area where Perforce Delphix could be improved is the ability to handle thousands of files more efficiently.

During the cleanup process, the challenge I face is that residual files remain, which makes it not as effective as I would prefer.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Perforce Delphix, the Helix version, for more than four years since I joined Synopsys.

How are customer service and support?

I chose the rating of nine because Helix has the features it offers, the scalability solutions it offers, and the support it provides.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different solution before Perforce Delphix.

My organization did not use a different solution before Perforce Delphix either.

    What was our ROI?

I believe there is a return on investment with Perforce Delphix, but since I am not involved in those aspects, I cannot provide specific details.

What other advice do I have?

We have covered the main highlights, but I would like to mention that there are some things Perforce Delphix lacks. Something lacking in the product is the CI/CD pipeline built by Git itself. For example, in Git, there is an entire CI/CD pipeline, but for us, there is no in-house CI/CD pipeline tool available that is as easy to use compared to Git. That is one thing I wanted to add.

Without the in-house CI/CD pipeline, what we do is build our own framework of CI/CD, encompassing everything. It includes all types of logging, DBRs, integration with all internal APIs, and internal tools. Everything is done with an in-house tool developed by internal Synopsys itself for decades, and it is quite effective.

I would not say that using Perforce Delphix has reduced errors; it is just an in-house advantage.

The learning regarding the features is all normal, and nothing unusual stands out to me in my day-to-day work. I have assigned an overall review rating of nine to this product.

Rapid data replication has improved test cycles and provides real-time non-production environments
    Pros and Cons
    • "Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization by significantly improving turnaround time for test cycles, enabling us to close feature set testing very quickly and enhancing development time due to the availability of real-time data for executing numerous use cases in a non-production environment."
    • "In terms of improvements for Perforce Delphix, I believe the pricing page should provide more flexibility, as it was costlier before, though I am uncertain about the current pricing structure."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Perforce Delphix in my previous organization involved two concerns: we had a huge production database that needed replication for non-production environments with real-time data use cases, addressing both the large amount of data and storage issues, which Perforce Delphix helped us with significantly.

One specific project where Perforce Delphix helped with the huge amount of data and storage issues involved replicating large production data for non-production use to run our automated and manual test cases. We created a Perforce Delphix environment to replicate data, allowing us to create multiple non-production environments with the same storage set, where we were running different test cases in parallel, improving performance, coverage, and turnaround time significantly. Additionally, we were able to spin up environments very quickly.

Another important aspect we utilized with Perforce Delphix was point-in-time snapshotting, which allowed us to roll back all changes and restore the original state of the replicated data, thus contributing to its effective use.

    What is most valuable?

Perforce Delphix offers excellent features including a very good UI capability and strong performance, along with reliable connection functionalities.

Regarding the UI, I found it to be very fast and performant from the database side, allowing us to create environments without the need for backend scripts. The UI also provided ways to connect to the database and observe current database usage statistics.

Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization by significantly improving turnaround time for test cycles, enabling us to close feature set testing very quickly and enhancing development time due to the availability of real-time data for executing numerous use cases in a non-production environment.

I estimate that our test cycle time has increased by forty to fifty percent and parallel development has had a significant impact as well.

    What needs improvement?

In terms of improvements for Perforce Delphix, I believe the pricing page should provide more flexibility, as it was costlier before, though I am uncertain about the current pricing structure.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for the last eight years, and I have around twenty years of total experience.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Perforce Delphix is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I did not encounter any scalability issues with what I have used, though I am uncertain about its overall scalability.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Perforce Delphix is good. I would rate the customer support around seven to eight.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we were replicating using native database replication, but we switched to Perforce Delphix because we were struggling with data synchronization and storage issues.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate other options before choosing Perforce Delphix.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for others considering Perforce Delphix is that if you are dealing with production database validation or related use cases and struggling with database storage, size, and pricing, Perforce Delphix is a good option. Especially for large organizations where multiple teams are working on the same data set and there are multiple features being released, Perforce Delphix offers a solid solution for logical data separation.

I am not using Perforce Delphix right now, but I was using it in my previous organization for one year.

I am uncertain about Perforce Delphix's AI capabilities, particularly concerning governance and security, as I have not worked much in that area.

Regarding the accuracy and reliability of Perforce Delphix's AI output, I have not had any experience with that and might need to explore it further.

I would rate this review an eight overall.

Data masking and virtualization have transformed daily security, space savings, and recovery speed
    Pros and Cons
    • "Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization very well because many enterprises call us for projects to virtualize databases and mask their fields in the database."
    • "I face different challenges every day on all of the projects, and I see different bugs and problems, so every day I try a new challenge."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Perforce Delphix is for masking jobs and virtualization with clients, and I am involved in pre-sales, support, and troubleshooting for clients.

A specific example of how I use Perforce Delphix for masking jobs or virtualization is a scenario for security in enterprises where we need a database masked and virtualized to optimize space and have a fast database. For masking, it is for LGPD, for security and legal reasons.

I have a lot to add about my main use case as we use Perforce Delphix for many scenarios because we work with Delphix daily, employing it for various different things.

    What is most valuable?

In my opinion, the best features Perforce Delphix offers include Brazilian CNPJ masking for the LGPD profile set on the adaptive engine.

The ability of the adaptive engine to handle Brazilian CNPJ and LGPD profiles are standout features, and the adaptive engine helps me day-to-day because the CNPJ is transformed to an alphanumeric type from a numeric type. This cover for masking is something different from the market and is very important now because all enterprises need to mask these fields.

Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization very well because many enterprises call us for projects to virtualize databases and mask their fields in the database.

    What needs improvement?

I face different challenges every day on all of the projects, and I see different bugs and problems, so every day I try a new challenge.

I have many bugs, but I cannot list all of them because there are many bugs every day.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

From my experience, Perforce Delphix is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of Perforce Delphix is really good as we use it every day for different scenarios.

How are customer service and support?

I use Delphix support which is really good, but the term 'customer support' does not make sense to me.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have never used a different solution for virtualization and masking of databases.

    What was our ROI?

In the part that I see, Perforce Delphix provides good returns, but I do not know about the specific metrics. However, I know a return exists.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing Perforce Delphix, I evaluated other options, specifically for masking where we used masking on the Oracle side and another application, but I have never seen anything as good as Delphix. In virtualization, I have also never seen something Delphix, which is really different from other applications.

What other advice do I have?

    I rated Perforce Delphix a 10 out of 10.

I chose this rating because Perforce Delphix helps my day and everyone on the project team, including the development teams. It helps everyone on the cost side, development side, DBA side, and support team side, and it is easy to use.

Regarding Perforce Delphix's AI capabilities, I think its governance and security are good because you can provide masked fields for training an AI machine learning model, and we have a DCT on Delphix which is an engine for data governance that works well.

I do not know about the accuracy and reliability of output related to Perforce Delphix's AI capabilities.

I would advise others looking into using Perforce Delphix to recognize that it is really fast in its virtualization type and that you can reduce costs with virtualization. You can create a VDB in the database with fast ingestions, fast recovery in disaster scenarios, and fast masking, and the masking feels realistic.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Database refreshes have become fast and efficient for production-like test environments
    Pros and Cons
    • "The best features Perforce Delphix offers are quick and easy production-like database management, as refreshing databases is easy and efficient and has positively impacted my organization by saving considerable time."
    • "The customer support for Perforce Delphix, based on my experience, is initially not easy to reach, but in the succession stage, it is easy to reach support."

What is our primary use case?

My main use case for Perforce Delphix was refreshing production databases.

    What is most valuable?

The best features Perforce Delphix offers are quick and easy production-like database management. Refreshing databases is easy and efficient. For example, before using Perforce Delphix, we exported and imported databases to refresh production databases for test cases, but after we implemented Perforce Delphix, we refreshed them more efficiently and quickly.

Refreshing UAT databases takes nearly five minutes with Perforce Delphix, but before that, we exported and imported them along with importing the schema. Perforce Delphix has positively impacted my organization as I saved considerable time.

    What needs improvement?

I am not currently using Perforce Delphix, so I cannot comment on how it can be improved. I cannot recall any needed improvements from my past experience with Perforce Delphix. Since I have not used Perforce Delphix for nearly five or six years, I cannot add anything specifically about needed improvements.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working in my current field for nearly 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Perforce Delphix is stable in my experience. After we tested it in our company, other companies tested it and implemented it to their production environment.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Perforce Delphix reduces storage, so it takes about five minutes to make a UAT test environment, and I did not notice any issues as our data or usage grew.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support for Perforce Delphix, based on my experience, is initially not easy to reach, but in the succession stage, it is easy to reach support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Perforce Delphix was the first program that we used for refreshing databases.

    How was the initial setup?

I used Perforce Delphix for nearly two or three years. I found it easy to use.

    What about the implementation team?

I used Perforce Delphix during my junior years, but I left it because I began working at another company.

    What was our ROI?

I have not seen a return on investment from using Perforce Delphix, and I am not the one in charge of investment or licensing information.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I do not know the licensing information or setup cost for Perforce Delphix because I am not the one in charge of that.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate any other options before choosing Perforce Delphix.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others looking into using Perforce Delphix is that it reduces time, is easy to implement, and also reduces storage. I would give this product a rating of 9 out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

User-friendly interface and provides good data cloning features
    Pros and Cons
    • "The solution's most valuable feature is data cloning."
    • "It would be good if any CI/CD and DevOps-aligned feature could be triggered through the DevOps pipeline."

What is our primary use case?

The current use case is to manufacture or generate synthetic data on the fly in different environments.

    What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable feature is data cloning. Once we have the rules established, we can clone the data as if it were equivalent to production data. The solution's data masking features reduced the risk of accessing production data, reducing incidents related to data privacy by at least 50%.

    What needs improvement?

It would be good if any CI/CD and DevOps-aligned feature could be triggered through the DevOps pipeline. Right now, we have to trigger the jobs and then integrate them with DevOps, which requires some manual effort. The ideal state would be to have the ability to integrate with the DevOps pipeline.

There is a mainframe virtualization for which Delphix already has a partner. Mainframe virtualization is an important use case, and it would be good if it could be given as a package.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Delphix for one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Delphix provides good stability.

I rate the solution an eight or nine out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution's scalability is not an issue, but the clients have their own adoption curve. Around 50 users are using the solution. Our clients for Delphix are enterprise businesses.

I rate the solution's scalability an eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The solution’s technical support is very good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

    How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup requires some technical expertise. The solution's deployment took six to twelve months. That's not because of Delphix. It was because of the client's ecosystem, which is sometimes very complex. I would say anywhere between six and twelve months is a reasonable time frame.

The solution's deployment has a pilot phase where we would take one or two applications and run them past the test data software. Then, we look for the results and accuracy. If they are appropriate and satisfactory, we incorporate more applications in the next release. Since each release takes about one month, we have to postpone it until next month.

On a scale from one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the solution's initial setup a seven out of ten.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's pricing was reasonable and lower than one million.

What other advice do I have?

We are the solution service integrator. We implement and manage Delphix for the customer. The solution's data virtualization capabilities have resulted in a 30% improvement in velocity, a 50% reduction in incidents related to data security, and an overall 20% reduction in efforts related to test data.

Delphix is deployed on-premises or in the client's private cloud, which can also be classified as on-premises.

Identifying the use cases was challenging because every stakeholder had their unique use cases. We had to baseline the use cases because we couldn't accommodate all of them within the pilot phase.

In terms of the required support, the business users needed to support the pilot phase, which was another challenge. We had to get all the business teams together in one place and agree on the scope. Then, it was more of learning on the job. There was a continuous learning process, and we had to adapt and learn on the fly.

I would recommend Delphix to other users because the company is good and very supportive. The solution has a user-friendly interface, and the support team is also quite proactive.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
