Scalable, easy to understand, and has reasonable pricing
Pros and Cons
- "The pricing is reasonable and matches the rest of the market."
- "The pricing of the solution should be much easier to calculate or find by yourself."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The solution is very easy to understand. It's a simple solution. It's not complicated.
The product does a lot of wonderful stuff that a lot of these companies want to do without too much effort.
The initial setup is straightforward.
The pricing is reasonable and matches the rest of the market.
The solution is quite stable.
Our clients have not had any trouble scaling.
What needs improvement?
The pricing of the solution should be much easier to calculate or find by yourself.
Clients want to get a rough idea as to how much it's going to cost for year one, year two, year three, et cetera. There is a calculator that Snowflake gives you, however, more often than not, you have to go to Snowflake to get those numbers. You can't do it yourself. To simplify things, it could be easier if they made it maybe easier to understand the cost and what the outgoing cost for a customer would be.
In the future, if they added AI capabilities, that would be ideal.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for about a year. It hasn't been that long. The company that I work for, on the other hand, has likely used it for three or four years or so.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the solution is very good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's very reliable in terms of performance.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We haven't heard of clients having issues with scalability. It can expand well. A company that needs to grow it out can do so without any trouble.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is not too complex. It is pretty straightforward. A company shouldn't have too much trouble implementing the solution.
What about the implementation team?
We deploy such solutions for our clients if they require it.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We are the first global premier partner. We have the highest level of Snowflake partnership
The licensing is a bit tricky as it's hard to calculate pricing ahead of time.
That said, most customers I have dealt with have no issues at all with the pricing. They think it's reasonable. Obviously, everybody, every single customer, wants to receive a price. That goes without saying. However, if you ask me if it's a fair price for the market, the answer is yes.
What other advice do I have?
We don't recommend a cloud typically. We leave it to the customer. If the customer has AWS, and then we sell Snowflake on AWS. If the customer has Google, we sell Snowflake on Google or Azure, or if they have Azure, we sell Azure. They may even have a private cloud. We don't force the customer to buy a particular cloud. We go with the customer's preference from their cloud services because Snowflake works on all three clouds.
In general, I would rate the solution eight out of ten. It does what it says it will, and I have yet to hear of customers complaining about its capabilities.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

A secure and fast solution with inbound and outbound share features and good integrations
Pros and Cons
- "Its performance is a big advantage. When you run a query, its performance is very good. The inbound and outbound share features are also very useful for sharing a particular database. By using these features, you can allow others to access the Snowflake database and query it, which is another advantage of this solution. It has good security, and we can easily integrate it. We can connect it with multiple source systems."
- "I am still in the learning stage. It has good security, but it can always be more secure."
What is our primary use case?
We are using it for our security products. We have a trial account, and we are using the trial database and practicing on top of it. We have the latest version of this solution.
What is most valuable?

I have been using this solution for a few months. I am in the learning stage.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable. Its performance is very good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. We have four users who are using Snowflake.
How are customer service and technical support?
We are going through the online version, and we don't find any difficulty with this.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

How was the initial setup?
There is no installation as such. After you register with Snowflake, you get a demo database, which you can configure and use. It only takes around 30 minutes.
What about the implementation team?
I did it myself.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Currently, we have a trial account, so we don't need a license. After our project starts, we would need a permanent license.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution to others. We plan to keep using it.
I would rate Snowflake a nine out of ten.

AVP Enterprise Architecture at a financial services firm with 501-1,000 employees
A perfect solution that delivers as promised and makes it easy to manage the overall ecosystem
Pros and Cons
- "The overall ecosystem was easy to manage. Given that we weren't a very highly technical group, it was preferable to other things we looked at because it could do all of the cloud tunings. It can tune your data warehouse to an appropriate size for controlled billing, resume and sleep functions, and all such things. It was much more simple than doing native Azure or AWS development. It was stable, and their support was also perfect. It was also very easy to deploy. It was one of those rare times where they did exactly what they said they could do."
- "Their strategy is just to leverage what you've got and put Snowflake in the middle. It does work well with other tools. You have to buy a separate reporting tool and a separate data loading tool, whereas, in some platforms, these tools are baked in. In the long-term, they'll need to add more direct partnerships to the ecosystem so that it's not like adding on tools around Snowflake to make it work. They can also consider including Snowflake native reporting tools versus partnering with other reporting tools. It would kind of change where they sit in the market."
What is our primary use case?
I have used it in my previous company. It was just a SQL server data warehouse using reporting tools on top of it. It was an on-premise SQL server environment, and it was a typical data warehouse use case, but we wanted to do things faster and more cost-effectively.
We used it to modernize our data warehouse. We didn't want to invest more in on-premise servers, and we were looking for a way to quickly get more data joined together.
How has it helped my organization?
It had definitely improved the way our organization functioned at the time.

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for about three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We didn't run into anything. We had outages for a couple of seconds, but they were related to Amazon or AWS. They weren't related to Snowflake.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We scaled it a little bit. We didn't have a lot of data to scale, as a lot of companies do. We only had a couple of terabytes of data, which is insignificant for a cloud platform.
The development team had three or four people getting data in. Then report people were also using the platform, but they didn't really have to know that it was Snowflake because they were going at it through a reporting tool. There were probably 30 or 40 people writing queries against our reporting tools, which were, in turn, using Snowflake.
How are customer service and technical support?
They were really good. They were very responsive. There were never any issues with them. I would give them a ten out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've used a lot of different data warehousing solutions at different companies.
How was the initial setup?
It was easy as pie. In a couple of hours, it was up and running, and we were loading the data in. We had a fairly senior developer for that. He knew SQL server and queries very well. If you're used to developing in any type of SQL environment, you can jump in and use Snowflake really quickly.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is per credit. It has a use-it-as-you-go model. We bought a chunk of 20,000 credits, and they were lasting us for at least a year. We didn't have the scale of data like a much larger company to consume more credits. For us, it was very inexpensive.
Their strategy is just to leverage what you've got and put Snowflake in the middle. It doesn't make it expensive because most of the organizations already have reporting tools. Now, if you were starting from scratch, it might be cheaper to go a different way.
What other advice do I have?
If time to value is your primary goal, then I would recommend going for Snowflake over one of the other cloud providers.
I would rate Snowflake a ten out of ten. It is one of the few products in which everything demos well. It actually did everything they showed in the demos. We really couldn't find any gotchas in it. It kind of delivered as promised.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Sr. Technical Architect - Business Intelligence / Data Warehouse at a computer software company with 1,001-5,000 employees
A stable and scalable solution with very good memory management and easy installation
Pros and Cons
- "Snowflake is a database, and it is very good and useful. The most interesting part is that memory management is very good in Snowflake. For a business intelligence project, SQL Server is taking a lot of time for reporting services. There are a lot of calculations, and the reporting time is shown as two minutes, whereas Snowflake is taking just two seconds for the same reporting services."
- "For the Snowflake database, there should be some third-party features for the ETL. It would also be good to be able to use some kind of controls to get the data either from another database or a flat file. Its price should be improved. It should be cheaper than Microsoft."
What is our primary use case?
We use this solution for business intelligence. We have three persons in the team for developing the end product.
What is most valuable?

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for eight to ten months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is good. I always get a response from them when I send an email to their support team.
How was the initial setup?
It is very easy to install. After the installation, you just have to input some information into the Snowflake database. It is very easy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Its price should be improved. It should be cheaper than Microsoft.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution. I would rate Snowflake an eight out of ten.

Reasonably-priced, scalable, and the technical support is good
Pros and Cons
- "The technical support is pretty good, particularly if you are a more technical user."
- "Every product has room for improvement, although in this case, it needs some broadening of the functionality."
What is our primary use case?
We are a management consulting firm and do not use this product for ourselves. Rather, it is a service for our clients.
What is most valuable?
The overall package is quite nice, and there is not one specific feature that I have found more valuable than the others.
The vendor is quite willing to implement requests for development, in particular for larger clients. It is a nice company to work with.
What needs improvement?
Every product has room for improvement, although in this case, it needs some broadening of the functionality. They could become more complete.
Including more AI functionality would be nice. Microsoft does have more in this regard, although that also has to do with the size of the company.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Snowflake for a couple of years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Snowflake is a stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is definitely a scalable solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is pretty good, particularly if you are a more technical user. The people they have are quite technical, so compared to a lot of other companies where you first get somebody on the phone who has never seen the product, but he or she just works at the center and has to answer the first calls, if you connect with Snowflake, you immediately get somebody who is actually at the proper level.
It also means that if you have less experienced users, it's not that they find it difficult, but then they may get some questions to resolve the issue, which they don't really know the answer to. Sometimes, users may find themselves a bit lost because they don't know how to answer those questions. However, it's not in a negative way. It's more like you get a proper engineer to respond to your issues with Snowflake.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price of Snowflake is quite reasonable.
What other advice do I have?
Personally, if I have the choice, I would rather recommend Snowflake to my clients over a product from Microsoft, for example. They have some overlapping functionality, but they also have some separate stuff. Snowflake does not have the size to develop at that pace but personally, I find them a more sympathetic company than Microsoft.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

The syntax is advanced which reduces the time to write code
Pros and Cons
- "The syntax is advanced which reduces the time to write code."
- "They should improve the reporting tools."
What is our primary use case?
We use it for presentations to clients.
What is most valuable?
The syntax is advanced which reduces the time to write code.
What needs improvement?
They should improve the reporting tools.
They could increase their bandwidth to connect to other ETL tools.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Snowflake for around six months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is good. There is no performance downtime.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
If there is a need for scaling the setup is not so good.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their support is good.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was not complex. We needed a dedicated person for the setup. Once we know the requirements, it's not that complex. It has straightforward parameters.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Snowflake an eight out of ten.

An extremely stable and easy-to-set-up solution with valuable features like cloning and data sharing
Pros and Cons
- "The cloning functionality has been the most valuable. I have been able to completely copy databases. The data sharing concept is also useful. As compared to, for example, SAP, Snowflake is a lot more open, and it allows a lot more connectivity for other providers than an SAP ecosystem."
- "It needs a bit more rigor and governance, which is something you don't get with newer tools. This makes it less enterprise scalable. Its governance and structure can be enhanced, which would really be valuable. I would like to see some kind of prebuilt functionality in terms of having almost like a pre-built data warehouse. A functionality for generating automated kind of pieces would be good."
What is our primary use case?
I work for a company that are Snowflake partners and help clients implement solutions using Snowflake.
How has it helped my organization?
Snowflake solves many of the challenges that traditional data warehousing tools have such as a lack of agility, scalability and fine-tuning.
What is most valuable?
The use of micropartitions and metadata means that there is very little management needed and the user can focus purely on actually getting value out of their data. In addition, the cloning feature makes problem resolution and cutover extremely pain-free.
What needs improvement?
Whilst flexibility is one of its key strengths, it would be useful if there could be some better governance built into the product. In addition, functionality out of the box to deal with common data warehousing scenarios (e.g. slowly-changing dimensions etc.) would be great.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Snowflake for about a year and a half.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is extremely stable.
How are customer service and technical support?
The support from Snowflake is absolutely great. All kinds of content and things are available to support yourself as well as to be able to talk through issues and have their engineers take a look at the problems. They are very responsive.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We use Snowflake alongside other data warehousing tools. Ultimately it depends on what the client wants to implement and their existing architecture as to what would be the best choice.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Snowflake has a very efficient pricing mechanism where you only pay for what you use by the second making it very easy to control costs.
What other advice do I have?
The best advice I would give is to push for a POC. Pick a couple of use cases where you think you could quickly get value and just see how quickly you can get it implemented. One of the key features of Snowflake is that you can get it up and running straight away.

Lead Data Engineer at a consultancy with 51-200 employees
Mbps is great, it's faster than any other data warehouse
Pros and Cons
- "The Mbps they have established is quite a bit faster than any other data warehouse."
- "Product activation queries can't be changed while executing."
What is our primary use case?
We have different data models established on Snowflake so our primary use case is to store data from different sources, such as Azure Data Factory, or Databricks. We use it to create the data coming from different sources, and then we store the data. In addition, we also have a reporting structure that we use. We are partners with Snowflake and I'm a lead data engineer.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Snowflake is the Mbps they have established because it's quite a bit faster than any other data warehouse. The solution has different warehouse sizes in place, and we're able to switch through and choose what we want. It can be done in one or two seconds. In other data warehouses, it may take around one minute to set up a different configuration. In Snowflake, it can be done in, two or three seconds. And apart from that, the most important thing given that I have to analyze all this, is that it's very good with the time travel, it's a great feature.
What needs improvement?
One thing which I believe Snowflake needs to improve is related to product activation queries. It's not possible to change the warehouse size while executing. It means, for example, that the query is sometimes activated on a larger surface even if I've switched to extra small, the grading in the background is running on extra large. The result is that I have to pay for extra large until the execution is complete. The cost implications can be quite large. There should be a system where they provide a prompt so you can know the current warehouse size.
It would also be helpful if they would simplify the process of using Snowpipe. The way it works now is quite complicated. There are certain steps that you have to follow which is fine but if they could simplify that process, it would be helpful.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I've only had one issue related to stability in the past year.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's a scalable solution, we have unlimited storage in Snowflake.
How are customer service and technical support?
The technical support is quite good. We've used them when we've had to implement something and we need some guidance.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
The amount of data which we are currently handling, cannot be handled yet in any other data warehouse, but we do have experience with Azure Data Warehouse. We don't have to manage anything with Snowflake, but with Azure we do. Snowflake is much faster, and I believe it is cheaper as well. They have developed it on top of their own system and integrated the concept.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. It doesn't require any hardware. It's just about getting the account access and having a browser. Everything is done by Snowflake. There is a set process that you need to follow. It is a really fast process, and it helps that the entire migration can be done within minutes. The solution is used on a daily basis by hundreds of people.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's pay-as-you-go with Snowflake. The cost is around $US 50 per DB. Terabyte is around $US 50 per month. There are no additional costs. They are divided into two steps to assist the computer power as well as the storage power. Computation cost is relative to the warehouse size. However long our warehouse is up and running, we are charged.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend this solution.
I would rate this solution a nine out of 10.
