It is used in environments where there are mobile executives and the data can't be compromised. For example, if a laptop is lost or stolen, you have to ensure that the data is not compromised. I have deployed it at a motor company in the Bay area for securing the local laptops. It is used at a hospital for securing medical records and CFO-related files. It is also used at a Law firm for encrypting pleadings and legal documents.

Good stability and performance, easy to use, and has one pane of glass that does everything
Pros and Cons
- "I like its ease of use the most. The management console is really nice. I like having one pane of glass that does everything. It does the Sophos anti-virus and encryption. Everything that you need is in one place. It is easy to use, and it is also pretty fast. It provides some pretty good details, and it lets you know who has access to a file. You can also add additional people to the encrypted documents, which is pretty good. Its stability and performance are also very good."
- "It just needs a little bit more on the reporting side. Its reporting can be improved a little bit in terms of being able to know that things are in the right status. I should be able to pull a report to make sure that everything is all right. It could also have cloud integration. At the time I was using it, it wasn't a cloud product."

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Its stability and performance were good. I never had any crashes. I didn't notice it causing any performance problems or high CPU usage, making applications slower.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We had Sophos in the image. We rolled out the machines, so it was already there. It was already part of our base image, and then for servers, we use SCCM. Sophos also has its own console that you can use for deployments, but we didn't use that.
Most of our clients are large businesses. Most of the time, smaller businesses can't afford to call in consultants to roll out stuff for them.
How are customer service and support?
I have never used their tech support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Different companies used different solutions. They usually switched when their license agreements ran out. The company for which I did the biggest installation had ESET and McAfee ePO. I removed both ESET and McAfee ePO and placed two different environments with Sophos. This switch was a result of viruses happening and not getting caught by their protection systems.
The initial setup of Sophos is also easier than other solutions such as Trend Micro and BitLocker. The setup of both these solutions is much more complex. If you try to go old school with PGP, it has a command-line setup, and it gets a lot more complex.
I am currently using BitLocker, which is a little bit more difficult. You have to use some power show commands. Sometimes, you have to use scripting and create GTOs. There are many different places you have to go to for configuring policies and rules to make it all work. In Sophos SafeGuard, everything that you need is in one place.
How was the initial setup?
It was pretty straightforward. If you don't know how encryption works, it could be a little bit complex, but it would still be easier to do it with Sophos than any other tool in the market, such as Trend Micro and BitLocker.
What other advice do I have?
It is a good product. I would advise calling an expert to deploy it.
I would rate Sophos SafeGuard an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Senior Manager Network Design at MEEZA, Managed IT Services Provider
Contains audit trails, which are essential in case of a security breach for investigation purposes
Pros and Cons
- "Integration with other solutions is one of its strongest points. It's very easy to integrate and automate."
- "There's no centralized management. This is a drawback."
What is our primary use case?
I use it for authentication of administrators and the users of applications.
It's primarily for application access authentication.
What is most valuable?
First, it's very secure.
Second, it's reliable.
Additionally, it contains audit trails, which are essential in case of a security breach for investigation purposes.
Integration with other solutions is one of its strongest points. It's very easy to integrate and automate.
Encryption is not the major focus of this technology. It's embedded, so the specific encryption method used isn't the primary concern for us.
What needs improvement?
There's no centralized management. This is a drawback.
Along with centralized management, it's also complex to deploy.
Ideally, we need centralized management for all clients and a simplified deployment process.
So, those are the two major points we'd like to see improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using it for three year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's very stable once deployed. I would rate the stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We haven't tested its limits yet as our customer base is smaller. However, Sophos claims it's very scalable and can handle thousands of users.
Currently, four customers use the technology.
How are customer service and support?
The tech support is good. But we haven't needed to contact them too many times.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
It is complex to deploy. It took roughly six to nine months, which is a problem.
Sophos can make it faster and easier to deploy.
What about the implementation team?
The steps to deploy are: first, understanding requirements; second, setting up the infrastructure; third, loading the data; and finally, testing.
A team of five to seven is ideal. Currently, we have five people with different skill sets handling it.
The deployment model is flexible. It can be deployed either cloud-based or on-premises.
What was our ROI?
There are two key values. First, it significantly enhances security, which is crucial for modern applications. Second, it has a great return on investment because once deployed, it requires minimal ongoing maintenance and becomes a steady revenue generation tool.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's a software license with a one-time purchase. There are no issues with purchasing, and the vendor is flexible with licensing.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated many other options and found SafeGuard stood out due to its variety of features that matched our requirements. Other technologies might be better for different companies depending on their specific needs.
Sophos aligned best with our requirements. Other solutions might be better suited for different companies if they have different needs.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.
Consider the deployment time in advance. It takes a while to deploy, so if you need it next year, start the deployment this year.

IT manager at ARAR Innovations
Offers friendly integration features and is easy to use in general
Pros and Cons
- "The product is easy to use."
- "Sometimes, multiple updates and crashes happen in the tool, making it an area where improvements are required."
What is our primary use case?
My company has deployed a software system, and after its installation, it is working on our hardware and firewall.
What is most valuable?
Everything related to the product is perfect.
The most effective feature of the product revolves around the rules users can apply to it.
What needs improvement?
Sometimes, multiple updates and crashes happen in the tool, making it an area where improvements are required.
I would like to get less frequent updates on the product.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have experience with Sophos SafeGuard for more than eight months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability-wise, I rate the solution an eight to nine out of ten.
More than 80 people in my company use the product. The people in my company don't directly work on the product since it is a tool that acts as a firewall to protect data and avoid intrusion attacks.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before Sophos SafeGuard, my company used the support offered by a third party who had offered us the tool.
How was the initial setup?
The product's initial setup phase is not very complex. Users have to install it, apply the rules, along with the route systems, and look for network compatibility. There is a need to check the balance in the tool to ensure that if one link is down, the other should be up.
The product's deployment phase involves a PnP process. One needs to install it and apply the rules.
The solution is deployed on the cloud.
The solution can be deployed in a day since there are multiple steps.
What about the implementation team?
Earlier, when a third party was involved in the installation of the product, I learned how to apply the rules along with the other steps to install the tool. Presently, I deploy the product by myself.
What was our ROI?
My company has deployed the tool in its own territory, so it provides protection in our premises. The product acts as a firewall protecting the data of all the employees and systems.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I use the paid version of the product. There is a need to make annual payments towards the licensing charges attached to the product. The product is not expensive. I feel that the product's price is normal, meaning it is neither too high nor too low. There is no need to pay any additional costs apart from the normal charges attached to the product.
What other advice do I have?
The tool's cloud data protection is great since it manages everything and gives feedback. It also notifies users about any precautions or risks.
The product is easy to use.
I feel that there was no need to maintain it since I haven't seen any big issues with the product.
I have gone through the encryption and decryption process offered by the tool.
In terms of integration with the existing IT infrastructure, I feel the product is quite friendly.
The product offers great quality and security to use and manage. The tool is also very helpful and doesn't have any hard and fast rules, making it quite a friendly solution.
I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

Head of Security at a insurance company with 10,001+ employees
The firewall is great but configuration and integration could be improved
Pros and Cons
- "The intrusion detection system."
- "The Office 360 integration could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
I'm the head of security at our company and we are customers of Sophos SafeGuard.
What is most valuable?
The valuable feature is the intrusion detection system, the firewall itself.
What needs improvement?
The Office 360 integration could be improved, it's not so straightforward. It's been a challenge. When I moved from my mail in-house, on-prem, to Office 360 on cloud, I had a lot of challenges getting my mail to pass through the firewall. That's something I'm currently working on.
Additional features I'd like to see would be more help results to the product. Maybe they could provide a way to train on the product, provide tutorials that could be easily accessed for people to easily understand the product quickly. I think that would help. The issue is not always the product but the configuration and the know-how to easily manage the system that sometimes make you not get the best out of the system. It's a matter of making resources available.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's a stable solution, I haven't had any challenges except when I was doing the migration.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable, we have over 500 staff using it.
How are customer service and technical support?
We purchased the solution in Ghana through a rep who has not been helpful. The company doesn't provide any support, we do everything in-house. If necessary, I sometimes go to the community to see if somebody has reported something that can help us.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price could be lower. I think it's one of the disadvantages of the solution.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend that people choosing this solution find the right technical people or vendor to provide support and assistance to ensure the product is working fine.
I would rate this product a six out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Detects threats and works effectively
Pros and Cons
- "For general data protection and GDPR requirements, which are relevant because we work with European companies, SafeGuard helps us stay compliant."
- "The focus should be on making things automated ."
What is our primary use case?
We mainly use the firewall in two of our branches. We don't use VPNs or encryption beyond the out-of-the-box settings.
We primarily use the firewall, and there's built-in encryption, but we haven't set up any VPNs.
How has it helped my organization?
In South Africa, compliance regulations like HIPAA aren't a major issue for us. However, for general data protection and GDPR requirements, which are relevant because we work with European companies, SafeGuard helps us stay compliant.
What is most valuable?
It detects threats and works effectively, which is the most important thing.
What needs improvement?
SD-WAN and AI are the kinds of things we're interested in, but for now, it's just planning for the future. AI is advancing rapidly, and I wasn't even aware there was any AI involved in Sophos.
Almost every product these days is coming out with AI and SD-WAN, but those aren't features we're currently using.
The focus should be on making things automated and cost-effective.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using it for one year. We have a small setup and don't use it extensively.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability a ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate the scalability a ten out of ten. It depends on the model, but the models we have were purchased within the range we needed.
How are customer service and support?
We haven't dealt directly with Sophos. We've been working through distributors, and they've been fine.
However, it's fine. We haven't had any issues where we didn't get the answers we needed. They respond on time.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used Cyberoam originally. They were acquired by a different company. And prior to that, we worked with a company that no longer exists. We're not Cisco clients at the moment; we're not using Cisco equipment. We were dominantly Cyberoam before that.
What about the implementation team?
In terms of configuring it, we only have one tech. There is no maintenance involved except renewing licensing and regular updates of the product.
What was our ROI?
It's difficult to quantify the return on investment since we replaced our previous solution with it. It's like insurance; you need it when you have it, but you realize its importance when you don't.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is reasonable. I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten, with one being cheap and ten being expensive.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated Fortinet.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:
Operator at Halliburton
Offers a three-click policy setup.
What is most valuable?
- The software offers a three-click policy setup
- There is no key management servers to install
- The compliance and reporting features are simple
- The option for self-service key recovery for the user or administrator is simplistic.
How has it helped my organization?
As part of security consulting, different projects and clients require different levels of security. For the last few years, I used Sophos high security routers. I have come to find the full disk encryption and enterprise management options in SafeGuard to rank very well.
What needs improvement?
I do not see very many downfalls, but I would recommend adding a few different encryption algorithms. For example, adding Triple DES, Blowfish, and Twofish, would only provide added value to the users. They could then decide how to secure the data they are using the product for.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for three years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
No deployment problems were encountered in any respect. Even using it on an Android phone was seamless.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There were no stability issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
From single, high net worth people to a 430 person law firm, I have yet to hear a concern with scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Customer service is very good. There have been no issues.
Technical Support:The two times tech support was needed, we received great service.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did not try other solutions
How was the initial setup?
It was easy to setup.
What about the implementation team?
We did the implementation in-house.
What was our ROI?
Compared to the potential loss if a breach occurred, the little higher investment is worth protecting data.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Pricing is a little more than similar products. However, the name and bullet proof security offered is superior once you get into the fine details of what the product offers.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We evaluated BitLocker and Symantec PGP.
What other advice do I have?
For high security routers, whole disk security, and enterprise management, Sophos is and will continue to remain a leader.

- "The product's initial setup process could be easier to understand for new users."
What is most valuable?
The product features we find most effective are web filtering and VPN functionalities.
What needs improvement?
The product's initial setup process could be easier to understand for new users.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with Sophos Safeguard for approximately three to four years.

How are customer service and support?
They have been responsive even during weekends when I needed assistance.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The installation process is generally straightforward, especially if you have a basic understanding of firewall systems. However, there is a slight learning curve for those new to it.
It took me approximately a day to install the product. I referred to videos and Sophos' official documentation for guidance.
What about the implementation team?
We handle the installation process on our own. We monitor and maintain it ourselves.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The platform is reasonably priced considering its functionality and adaptability. It is subscription-based.
I rate the pricing a seven out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
The main benefits we've observed are improved security and reliable support when needed. I prefer Sophos due to its user-friendly setup and accessible information.
I rate it a nine.
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:
Independent Business Owner at 3Kay Solutions
Has a straightforward initial setup process and a helpful support portal
Pros and Cons
- "The setup process is straightforward."
- "The product's next release could have integration features with different internal and external systems."
What is our primary use case?
We use Sophos SafeGuard as an antivirus solution for endpoints.
How has it helped my organization?
The product has beneficial components that help us improve the organization.
What needs improvement?
The product's next release could have integration features with different internal and external systems. Sometimes, it doesn't work with Azure.
It could interconnect with the firewalls on the client side, providing us with monitoring data, including logs and visual graphics. In this way, it would help us prevent potential data breaches.
I rate the product's user experience a seven out of ten. However, we face a few issues installing it for troubleshooting purposes.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been registered as a reseller with Sophos SafeGuard since 2020. At present, I am selling the latest version.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the platform's stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I rate the platform's scalability an eight out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
I have never contacted the technical support team. I can resolve any technical issues with the help of the support portal.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have used Fortinet and SonicWall.
How was the initial setup?
We deploy Sophos SafeGuard on a hybrid cloud. The setup process is straightforward and takes around 20 minutes to an hour to complete. We conduct troubleshooting for product maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I rate Sophos SafeGuard's pricing a five out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend Sophos SafeGuard to others and rate it a nine out of ten.
