An excellent endpoint solution that's easy to setup, very stable, and highly secure
Pros and Cons
  • "With Sophos, I only need to generate the password and give that to a user to be able to allow them to login to the admin page of the Endpoint and do whatever they need to do. The user cannot go ahead and uninstall it. It's kept us much more secure because of this. Should any event happen on a particular system, I'm given the username and the system IP address. I get notifications and can deal with issues right away."
  • "If it's possible, they should make all the features available because it's got a lot of features on offer, but you have to buy the license in order to add those features to the normal Endpoint. If they could make all those features available and/or offer a bundling option it would be better."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution as an endpoint antivirus action for the system.

How has it helped my organization?

In terms of security, we were a bit lacking before we introduced Sophos. I was using another Endpoint solution before. While we were using that, I realized that I was seeing a few security challenges. The biggest plus for me is the fact that I could manage web traffic, web services or other traffic using the Endpoint solution. I can lock it, and basically I'm the only person that can control everything.

What is most valuable?

I use all the features. they're all excellent. One of the aspects of the solution that I like the most is the fact that I can control my peripherals without having to use it for part of the application.

With Sophos, I only need to generate the password and give that to a user to be able to allow them to log in to the admin page of the Endpoint and do whatever they need to do. The user cannot go ahead and uninstall it. It's kept us much more secure because of this. Should any event happen on a particular system, I'm given the username and the system IP address. I get notifications and can deal with issues right away.

With Central Synchronisation, the Sophos Endpoint can be linked with Sophos firewall to constantly monitor the health status of computers on your network.

A policy on the health status of each computer can be configured to determine actions that will be take should a computer be found infected.

if the health status of the computer changes, the computer can be denied access to the internet and other segments of the network and reported to the admin and Sophos Endpoint will disinfect the system, report the health status to Sophos firewall and access to the internet and other segments of the network will be granted to the computer.

all of these is done without human intervention.

Sophos Sandstorm is a powerful, cloud-based, next-generation sandbox that detects, blocks and reports on ransomware and evasive threats. A sandbox is an isolated environment used to execute suspicious files attached to emails and downloaded from websites to determine if they contain malware

What needs improvement?

If you're talking about technical support, their endpoint support needs improvement. Their UTM is doing well, however.

If it's possible, they should make all the features available because it's got a lot of features on offer, but you have to buy the license in order to add those features to the normal Endpoint. If they could make all those features available and/or offer a bundling option it would be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is 95% stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, if you have a license, you could add more licenses, except that, for instance, if I already bought a 50 user license, and then I want to buy an additional 50 later. The new license will not read the new date. It will be reading the old date of the old license. Both license will expire at the same time. In that sense, I don't think it's really that good for scalability purposes.

Currently, we have 110 users. We have plans to increase usage in the coming months.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service has really improved.

They ensure that your case is treated same day and assign a case ID for future reference.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Kaspersky Advanced. We switched because we discovered that there were a lot of features that we didn't have on Kaspersky that were available on Sophos. One is Intercept X which takes care of whatever infection there is on your system before you even know it.

You could synchronize Sophos Endpoint with a Sophos UTM and define which system or what category of system should be allowed access to the internet, based on their health status. That's not available with the previous antivirus I was using.

In the end, Sophos gave us a better price, with better features and better offers.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward, except for the fact that because it has to download the installation file online, it takes a while. It would be easier if they could make an offline installation possible. Deployment takes from 20 minutes and up.

What about the implementation team?

I handled the implementation myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have a yearly license with Sophos which is around $1000-$1200 or so per annum. There are no additional costs beyond the standard licensing fee.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other options before switching from Kaspersky to Sophos.

What other advice do I have?

We use the on-premises deployment model.

I would recommend the solution. New users should ensure that they get every module that they need.

I had a friend whose server was attacked by ransomware. It became a challenge for them. However, by installing Sophos Intercept X for servers, you could lock down that server, so that no executive file or no program would run unless you unlock them. The programs that would function would only be the ones that you have listed on Sophos. I didn't know that existed until I started using Sophos Endpoint. The antivirus is not just running on my system to protect it against viruses, it's also allowing me to lock my systems so that nobody can execute anything without my authorization. It gives me enormous peace of mind.

I would rate the solution ten out of ten.

Central management simplifies encryption and strengthens ransomware defense
Pros and Cons
  • "It has a feature that allows only three files to be encrypted by ransomware before it automatically revokes the process."
  • "I cannot think of any improvements right now."

What is our primary use case?

I use this solution as an endpoint protection technology. It is primarily used to protect endpoints.

What is most valuable?

The solution is valuable as it offers protection against ransomware. It has a feature that allows only three files to be encrypted by ransomware before it automatically revokes the process. What's beneficial is having one central console to manage file encryption and disk encryption, which are part of the Safeguard product. I can manage both features within one console and create templates to apply to other customers.

What needs improvement?

I cannot think of any improvements right now.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability as a nine out of ten. I have never had any issues with this feature. Although sometimes some features of the endpoint protection have services that do not run, Safeguard is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I'm unsure what scalability issues could arise with this solution since it involves BitLocker and disk encryption, which do not present much room for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the customer service as a ten out of ten. I work very closely with Sophos. If I have a severe problem, the availability and response time are excellent. Even in urgent situations like dealing with the fire department, I received help within about 20 minutes, where a Sophos technician assisted us.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

I would initially rate the setup process as an eight to ten out of ten. The setup ultimately turns out to be perfect.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I cannot compare prices precisely, so I would give it a five out of ten rating. I am uncertain. Sophos is slightly more expensive than some other vendors. A bundle might be an option for cost-conscious customers, similar to the Sophos Firewall licenses. Bundling could be a strategy to attract more customers.

What other advice do I have?

My overall rating of the solution is ten out of ten.

A secure product that filters phishing emails, blocks suspicious downloads, and provides data security
Pros and Cons
  • "The product filters phishing emails."
  • "The product is not cheap."

How has it helped my organization?

All the features and equipment of Sophos help improve our organization’s security.

What is most valuable?

The product filters phishing emails. It blocks suspicious files downloaded on devices to avoid damage. We use data encryption. If our laptop is stolen, we can avoid losing data. The product is very safe. The interface used for deploying encryption policies is user-friendly. I’m satisfied with the tool’s performance.

What needs improvement?

The product is not cheap.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for six to seven months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven’t faced any bugs or glitches.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have about 100 users in our organization.

How was the initial setup?

It is easy to deploy and maintain the product. We have four people to maintain the tool. It is easy to configure it.

What was our ROI?

Data security is the most important thing. It is difficult to calculate the ROI. However, it is understandable that solutions like Sophos SafeGuard make us more safe.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is a premium product, so the quality is good.

What other advice do I have?

We are technicians. We configure the laptops. I have used different security systems in my previous organization. We are adding new features like access points for Wi-Fi. Overall, I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

A stable, easy to scale solution with very good encryption capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of the solution are the fact that they are able to encrypt the hard disk and to encrypt USB sticks."
  • "The solution is not using other features like booting encryption, because it causes very heavy processing of the workstation. If they could find some way to handle the encryption and decryption to be lighter on the workstation it would be better."

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution are the fact that they are able to encrypt the hard disk and to encrypt USB sticks.

What needs improvement?

The solution is not using other features like booting encryption, because it causes very heavy processing of the workstation. If they could find some way to handle the encryption and decryption to be lighter on the workstation it would be better.

It would be ideal if the solution could make the processing possible on an appliance, instead of having to install it on a machine. Also, it should be in the network layers and communicate with more workstations. The encryption and decryption processing should not be on the workstation; rather it should be on the appliance.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's very, very easy to scale the solution. You do not need to make any upgrades. You just need to adjust the sizing to expand. You can expand at any time.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is very good, but sometimes they take a while to respond. This solution's very complex and still in the development process. Sometimes customers will ask for items that need to be developed or are not easy to develop. The solution is putting out a lot of updates, however, so they're constantly working to create a better product.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straight forward. The settings are not complex. However, sometimes some encryption settings have a complex configuration.

What about the implementation team?

We are a distributor of the solution. We recommend users use professional services to assist us with the implementation.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend the solution.

I would rate the solution eight out of ten.

There's not a good market for this type of solution here in Egypt. It might be because here in Egypt there isn't a great need for this kind of solution yet. There are no compliance regulations from the government. However, the solution offers good features and I believe would be good for customers. There are so many areas where customers need encryption technology.

Great protection and encryption with very good anti-viral applications
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution has a great VPN."
  • "The dashboards lack sufficient information."

What is our primary use case?

We have several use cases for SafeGuard, primarily for its security features. We also use it for the VPN and plan filtering. We are customers of Sophos and I'm head of information technology product support.

What is most valuable?

Sophos SafeGuard offers one of the best VPNs I've seen. The solution is very good in terms of securities because all information is protected and encrypted with very good anti-viral applications. It's wonderful.

What needs improvement?

The dashboards currently lack sufficient information. For example, when we want to look for accessibilities we have to go in-depth and then run the scripts and only then access what we're looking for. It could all be available in the reports and save a lot of time. I want to be able to know who is using what, to check visibilities.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability depends on the parameters. The solution is scalable it's just a question as to what level. It will be different for every situation.

How are customer service and support?

We are happy with the technical support team because they are accessible locally.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. We had some assistance initially but after we received guidelines from the technical team, it was easy. Anyone can do it with a couple of hours of training.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing is reasonably priced, particularly when you compare it to a solution like Semantic which is more expensive. Sophos is an affordable product.

What other advice do I have?

SafeGuard is good for medium to large size organizations.

I rate this solution eight out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

A comprehensive solution that uses a policy-based encryption strategy
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution can be easily connected and it is very secure."
  • "Sophos should conduct some seminars to teach people how to use it and also to inform the users about what they should do in case of problems."

What is our primary use case?

It is being used as a firewall.

What is most valuable?

The solution can be easily connected and it is very secure.

What needs improvement?

Sophos should conduct some seminars to teach people how to use it and also to inform the users about what they should do in case of problems.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Sophos SafeGuard for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. 150 people are using the solution across three locations. Another fifty users will be increased in the next one or two years.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and the deployment takes very little time. One or two staff members are required for regular monitoring and checking of the configurations.

What about the implementation team?

The solution was deployed in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is good and now they offer three-year and five-year plans. After that, if one likes the service, they can choose the lifetime service.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the overall solution a nine out of ten.

Good protection, stable, scalable, and the support is helpful
Pros and Cons
  • "It's the best solution on the market."
  • "It's a good product, but some are not happy with the boot BCN, and the point-to-point VPN requires the best protection."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution to protect our devices in a data center environment.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of this solution is the protection. It offers many different areas of protection such as trade and virus protection.

It's the best solution on the market.

What needs improvement?

It's a good product, but some are not happy with the boot BCN, and the point-to-point VPN requires the best protection. Better internet protection is required.

For how long have I used the solution?

We are currently using Sophos XG 210.21 but it expires in August, so we are looking at the Next-Generation Firewall.

We are using the latest version of SafeGuard.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable solution. We have no issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We can expand the product when we have the requirements to do so. For now, we have not explored this area.

We have 150 users in various roles using this solution in our organization.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is great. They are very good, and helpful.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex.

It took two months to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

Initially, we started to implement this solution but required some help from support.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing is on a yearly basis and the pricing could be better.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to others because it's a very good product.

We are satisfied with SafeGuard and I would rate it a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

A stable and scalable solution with excellent technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "I like the support most of all."
  • "The solution's ability to integrate with other solutions, such as a DLP, should be addressed."

What is our primary use case?

We are using the new version of Sophos SafeGuard.

Our endpoint users make use of three environments which we protect with the help of the solution.

What is most valuable?

I like the support most of all. In the past we had issues with it, but are now very pleased with it. It is very good.

What needs improvement?

The solution's ability to integrate with other solutions, such as a DLP, should be addressed.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

We do not have plans to increase the usage at present, perhaps in three year's time.

How are customer service and support?

I like the support most of all. In the past we had issues with it, but are now very pleased with it. It is very good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Were I to come across an alternate solution, I would switch. In the past, we made use of Kasperki, but we switched to Sophos SafeGuard because we felt it to be better.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy.

The deployment lasted four months.

What about the implementation team?

We use six or seven people, a combination of engineers and technicians, for the deployment and a technical support staff, consisting of 40 technicians, for the maintenance. There is much work involved, but we handle this.

For the deployment, we made use solely of the technical support that we had from the Sophos company.

What was our ROI?

I have not seen an ROI, return on our investment.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated CrowdStrike, prior to going with Sophos SafeGuard.

What other advice do I have?

Our company provides protection for 3,000 endpoint users.

We are customers of the solution.

Our solution is on hybrid cloud, with our servers being on-premises and the updates and sandbox being on the cloud.

I recommend that a person have a good implementation team which is very familiar with the solution. One who implements with a DLP solution should be careful with the DLL.

I rate Sophos SafeGuard as a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud
