I am currently using Tavily for a quiz generation engine, specifically an AI quiz generation engine regarding a few use cases for it. Sometimes we need real-time information from the web, and our agent uses Tavily API to fetch information from the web.
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
Tavily is configurable, which is something I appreciate about it. We can specify the domains that we want to search in, which is a good thing. It is quite fast, and I think those are the two main things that I appreciate about Tavily. Additionally, the setup is easy.
What needs improvement?
Getting Tavily AWS Enterprise subscription seems to be more difficult than it should be regarding the specific benefits I have seen from using it or challenges I was trying to address with Tavily. Their support is not quite responsive. Initially they responded to emails quickly, but now it seems to have been days without a response.
Their research plan and bootstrap plan are quite reasonably priced from my perspective on the pricing aspect of Tavily. However, their enterprise subscription is quite expensive and they are not very flexible. It is not suited for smaller use cases. Their enterprise subscription is meant for a very large use case. For companies of our size, which are neither big nor too small, it is difficult to get a subscription plan that will work for us.
There should be more flexibility in the pricing. They have a few tiers such as the Bootstrap plan, but when companies want to onboard an external vendor, we are usually looking for some paperwork to be done and we expect ongoing communication with the team. They do not provide any of that with their smaller plans. They provide email communication and paperwork only through their enterprise plan, which is quite expensive. That is where the problem and challenge lies.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Tavily for about three to four months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Regarding stability and scalability as far as I have used Tavily, it has been quite fine. There are no issues with scalability, but our use case is quite small, so we have not really tested it with a lot of requests. I cannot speak to how it would perform under heavier loads.
How are customer service and support?
I would rate the technical support and customer service team two or three on a rating scale of one to ten, where ten is the best.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I tried Serp API apart from Tavily, but not as extensively as Tavily, and they seem to be quite good as well.
How was the initial setup?
Setting up Tavily was not very complex. It is quite straightforward as it was just an API integration, so it was pretty simple.
What other advice do I have?
From a technical standpoint, Tavily is good based on my experience. However, their pricing could be a shock if you do not know it well ahead of time and assume that it will be reasonable. That is something you should keep in mind before onboarding this service, as the pricing would be quite steep. My overall review rating for Tavily is seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
