We use Visual Studio Professional 2022 for our coding purposes, and we have a lot of integrations in place. It is easy to install and simple to manage the extensions. We can develop, configure, deploy with ease, debug, and query all within one integrated development environment.
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
The IntelliSense feature in Visual Studio Professional 2022 improved our coding speed. I did not use it extensively before, but it definitely enhanced my productivity because the feature provides an auto-enable mode where we can easily type our code. That feature is very effective.
The key benefits that I have seen from using Visual Studio Professional 2022 on AWS include ease of implementation, the ability to write and integrate code with multiple environments, and agile planning tools that work seamlessly. The GitHub Enterprise connection is straightforward. We can easily create S3, DynamoDB, and every AWS service through the platform. We have Amazon Q Developer, which is an AI-powered assistant that can provide coding suggestions.
What is most valuable?
The integration of AWS in Visual Studio Professional 2022 is the best feature because we are currently using AWS. We have Azure as well, but we use it very little. We have GCP as well, and GCP is also used minimally, but we are primarily on AWS. Integrating with AWS is straightforward. We can easily use the AWS SDK built-in mode, and Amazon Q AI assistance is available.
We code for Terraform in Visual Studio Professional 2022, and we can use extensions for making the code more readable, along with Terraform formatting. We use a folder-in-folder method. Installing the AWS toolkit is simple. Importing credentials is straightforward and secure.
Several functionality features that I really appreciate in Visual Studio Professional 2022 are debugging, testing, and CodeLens. These are very effective for core development. For productivity and collaboration, we have version control through Git, which is easy to use.
What needs improvement?
One area I could suggest regarding improvements in deployment efficiency using Visual Studio Professional 2022 is that the context-aware code suggestion should be more tailored. Since AI is advancing and we are using it to reduce our tasks, the improvement is present, but it is not at the level where it could help us more substantially. I would suggest that AI-powered IntelliSense could be significantly improved. I used it less initially, but I will use it more if these enhancements are implemented. Cross-language refactoring would be valuable, such as refactoring variables, functions, or classes across multiple languages. If I am coding in Python, I could easily use those variables in Ruby as well.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Visual Studio Professional 2022 on AWS for the last one year.

When it comes to scalability, it is easy to scale up and scale out with Visual Studio Professional 2022.
How are customer service and support?
We never required contacting customer service for Visual Studio Professional 2022, but I believe they are quite effective because it is easy to work with them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before Visual Studio Professional 2022, we used multiple different products, including Eclipse, which is primarily for Java. However, since Visual Studio Code handles everything, we switched to Visual Studio Code. We also used Cursor. The Visual Studio Code theme and UI are simple, so we remained with Visual Studio Code and purchased the professional features.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup process for Visual Studio Professional 2022 is straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Regarding the pricing aspect of Visual Studio Professional 2022, it is straightforward. I do not think it is a very high price. The price is fair. It represents a good return on investment because if you compare it to other pricing options, they may be cheaper, but they do not provide this many benefits. The benefits that Visual Studio Professional 2022 provides combined with the pricing makes it a good choice.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We never evaluated any other options besides Visual Studio Professional 2022. On the new project which I am working on, they were using Visual Studio Code for a long time. I have worked on other IDEs as well and found Visual Studio Professional 2022 simple to use and easy to work with. We selected Visual Studio Professional 2022 exclusively.
What other advice do I have?
I have never tried Git source control in Visual Studio Professional 2022. We purchased Visual Studio Professional 2022 through the AWS Marketplace. I would say if you are heavily invested in AWS or even any other cloud tool, Visual Studio Professional 2022 is simple to use. I know it is 2024, but the platform remains very effective. The AI features and everything are straightforward to use. The code autocomplete feature is also very straightforward. It represents a good return on investment, and we should definitely choose Visual Studio Professional 2022. I have given this product a rating of 10 out of 10.
