Has anyone purchased the enterprise SSD option with this server? I'm keen to do that for a production SQL server, but am not sure the increase in cost is justified. Thanks.

Yes, HPE has many customers who have purchased the SSD option with the ProLiant DL server. Here are a few things to consider…
- The Price of SSDs is coming down. HPE now has SSDs starting at $299 list price
- SSDs, with amazing performance, excel in terms of IOPS/$
- SSDs also excel in terms of IOPS per watt (in the industry, the power necessary to cool a data center is huge, so we have a great TCO story with SSDs based on energy savings)

I have two SSRS servers with a pair of SSDs .. but what I have been deploying is pci flash cards in the dl 380 servers for use generally by Tempdb, I have 4 standalone servers with this option and an availability group with pci flash cards. In true SQL Server reply "It just depends" as to if internal SSDs will give advantages .. personally I feel the high prices for SSDs charged by HP make the choice "difficult"

The possibilities of 12G SAS SSD performance would be nice. Maybe once the price falls. I will check out PCI flash as an interim measure. Thanks.
