Saltstack is pretty flexible. And, especially if you're looking to do multi-platform either provisioning-time or lifecycle configuration-managment, it's one of the easier frameworks to learn.
Most of my customers, however (since they're trying to do "cattle" and not "pets"), use it less for lifecycle tasks than provisioning-time tasks. And the ones that aren't using Saltstack are generally using Ansible. Generally, if a customer is multi-platform – especially if they're Windows-centric – they'll choose Saltstack over Ansible since the latter only supports Linux-based servers as centralized configuration-managers.
