What is your primary use case for Fortinet FortiGate?

I am working as a presales engineer or system engineer, designing solutions for other clients. The clients use this solution for their data centers and perimeter security.

We are using Fortinet FortiGate for branch-to-branch connectivity. It handles internet outages, internet breaks to the cloud, and internet connectivity to the internal systems in the branches.

Our primary deployment of FortiGate 3401E (v7.2.11-17.40) is as the perimeter and east-west firewall for four geographically distributed data centers, each secured with an HA-paired cluster. We handle over 500 Gbps of mixed Layer 3 to Layer 7 traffic across our data centers, where FortiGate 3401E appliances perform deep-packet inspection, SSL/TLS termination, and real-time application control to secure critical services.FortiGate enforces blacklists for unwanted apps and CVE-based signatures, isolates services via VDOMs (enterprise, core, billing, WAF), and automatically blocks zero-day threats using FortiGuard IPS feeds

Me and my team have been managing site-to-site and remote access VPNs. We have been doing centralized logging through FortiManager and applying security policies, such as web filtering and application control across distributed branch locations. I have also handled firmware upgrades, security patching, and integrating the Fortinet FortiGate logs within SIEM tools, such as Splunk, for threat monitoring.

I handle solutions architecture for security and systems design. I have customers who use Fortinet FortiGate.

We integrate SD-WAN capabilities with Fortinet FortiGate frequently. Integrating SD-WAN is very easy and almost plug and play. In many cases, it's accomplished by using the built-in features. For more advanced SD-WAN configuration, it's very well documented and described in the Fortinet documents, which helps significantly. It works flawlessly most of the time and is very easy to administer. I haven't worked extensively with Fortinet Unified SASE yet. We will probably work more with it, but since Norway is quite a small country, we don't have the same use cases as America has, which has many branches of their customers. Our big clients are usually what the US refers to as a small business. We have many smaller locations, which have fewer security needs in a SASE way, as of yet. We are starting to see that the thinking about SASE is changing and more companies are actually starting to open up for the idea of having SASE. I still haven't actually implemented it. I've done several labs with Fortinet and workshops with them. I don't have the experience to actually say how it works because I haven't implemented it with a working customer yet.

The main use cases for Fortinet FortiGate usually include security to filter traffic to inside the network, load balancing and QoS for the user side, as well as Zero Trust Network Access, allowing users outside and inside the network fabric to connect to our application that is under the firewall.

My use cases for Fortinet FortiGate mostly involve perimeter-based security and fire-walling.

We use Fortinet FortiGate for network segmentation. We protect from the outside world and make segregation with the outside world. With Fortinet FortiGate, we primarily focus on network segmentation.

We have a couple of use cases for Fortinet FortiGate. We are using it for SASE, the Secure Access Security Edge, to provide VPN services and firewall functionality. We are also using their access points as well as their firewalls and switches.

Fortinet FortiGate is strong in SMB and mid-market, approaching SD-WAN from a security perspective. Customers have requirements for internet as many are moving away from private connectivity and migrating to Teams, making security a top priority. They've chosen Fortinet FortiGate as it offers both a comprehensive security portfolio, including intrusion detection, deep packet inspection, and VPNs. It provides robust SD-WAN capability, eliminating the need for two vendors. Additionally, they offer a SASE solution for smaller sites where a virtual Fortinet FortiGate can be used instead of a physical one, saving space for retail locations.

We use Fortinet FortiGate for SD-WAN as well as the switches for renewable plants and energy sector power plants.

We have a Fortinet FortiGate 900 series that is a big UTM. We also have 10 Gig switches, all fiber, for distribution of the service provider's connections.

I used this solution while working with my last organization. I handled plain firewall deployment as well as SD-WAN deployment.

Our customers use these devices as security devices, and we sell these devices to our customers. We also use it ourselves. We have the entire lab, and we use some of the functions in our local network.

We are using Fortinet for administration over local users that need to connect with our wireless. We have users that come from different domains, and there are certain limits and restrictions that need to be implemented.

FortiGate is a hardware firewall that we deploy for our customers. I work on the system integration team and install whichever solution the clients choose. For SD-WAN, you need at least two internet connections, so some of the customers are using it as a load-balancing technique. Overall, there are a lot of features for which customers are using SD-WAN.

The primary use case is for security purposes, mainly at the gateway level and for internal security, such as virtual training. We also use it for cybersecurity and internal communication, like having a portal. The main goal of implementing the product is to resolve security problems.

We primarily use the solution for security purposes and for UTM web profile applications.

In contrast, service providers, even on Metro Ethernet and Point-to-Point Networks, cannot provide a secure connection between two points.

We use Fortinet FortiGate mostly for a data center firewall.

We are using Fortinet FortiGate as a central firewall for our ministry, but nowadays we are preparing to join every site we have to our main data center. Fortinet FortiGate firewall will not satisfy our needs.

It controls the inflow and outflow of all the communication between different sites and so on. We are using its latest version.

We use FortiGate for security. Some clients use the whole Fortinet solution, including FortiSwitch, FortiAP, and FortiExtender, but FortiGate is my bread and butter. We have a hybrid deployment. A lot of it is onsite, and we have data center collocations. Some customers do collocations with us, but others request connectivity to Azure or another cloud services provider. Fortinet has plugins for Azure, AWS, or Google that make it easy to configure VPNs out of the data center or off-site. Typically, we stick with Azure because their support is better, but we do have a handful of customers that choose AWS. We have the solution deployed across Canada. One of our biggest customers is a retail company with many little stores under their umbrella. We cover everything from British Columbia to a couple of sites in Newfoundland. I estimate that we have around 1,200 users.

Fortinet FortiGate can be deployed to drive syslog server populations with Azure Sentinel. 

It is also a very strong firewall device for VPN connections and business efficiency on the policies bits of things.

I specify, configure and deploy firewalls in organizations with 500 or fewer employees and 15 or fewer sites. Primarily I choose between Cisco, Sonicwall and Fortigate small and medium sized appliances. Occasionally I deploy virtual appliances in AWS. I prefer to use Fortigate firewalls for several reasons- remote access is simple and the included client works with MacOS Windows and IOS devices. The level of security works well for most clients and the authentication with AD/LDAP makes the solution easier to deploy. I also find that the clients appreciate the lower price point than other vendors.

We have two other sites that we connect through FortiGate by using an IPSec, and we have integrated it with FortiAuthenticator for two-factor authentication and FortiAnalyzer to analyze logs and things like that. We are currently using the FortiGate 1200D series and running the latest software.

I use the solution primarily for the VPN connections in local area. In some cases, I use it at universities in order to secure the local network in the university, such as servers and backup devices.
