Barracuda Email Gateway Defense (Barracuda Essentials) can be improved, as it offers advanced phishing features but still needs fine-tuning. While it is strong, some advanced and highly targeted phishing emails may still bypass detection. For example, a well-crafted spear-phishing email may require additional user awareness or tools. Nowadays, AI is everywhere, and attackers are using it to craft emails. I have seen a few emails crafted by AI that appear very original. Thus, we need to enhance detection capabilities for phishing emails. Additionally, the UI and reporting could improve; while functional, the interface is not highly modern or intuitive, requiring simplifications. The alert noise tuning is also necessary, as initial deployment may generate false positives. Default policy construction should be enhanced so that it works from day one with minimal or no fine-tuning required. From an integration perspective, there is limited native XDR integration because it does not provide deep integration with endpoints or full XDR platforms compared to some competitors, with correlation between email threats and endpoint activity being limited.
Barracuda Email Gateway Defense (Barracuda Essentials) can be improved since the DLP is a bit inflexible and cannot handle custom additions. It is either you turn on the group of regulations you want to protect against, such as PCI, DCC, HIPAA, credit cards, and more, and it takes the defaults, or you do not choose anything outside of that. The price increased about two years ago, which is a big concern, especially for small organizations working on a tight budget. I would like to add that we need better options for flexibility in regulation protection and pricing that would be more manageable for our team.
Enhancements are required on the data transmission front. In cases where logs are publicly accessible, the challenge lies in the absence of default recordings, making it difficult for us to seamlessly integrate components with our system. Consequently, we are compelled to manually create recordings, turning it into a time-consuming process.
There Is room for improvement in the quarantine and user interface. Enhancements in ease of management, including a smoother deployment process and a more user-friendly interface, would be beneficial.
They could implement scheduled reporting in the product. Additionally, they should integrate it with email security parameters similar to ProofPoint and Trend Micro.

The features and product itself are good. Sometimes there are minor issues that can be frustrating, but not consistently bad.
