The SD-WAN feature is packaged with the solution’s other tools. It is excellent for implementing on remote locations. With Fortinet Fortigate, application steering between many ISP links is a simple task. Steering can be done dynamically by measuring latency, jitter, packet loss, and available bandwidth.
We prefer to use Fortinet Fortigate over its competing solutions for several reasons:
Remote access is simple and the bundled client platform works with both Mac and Windows operating systems.
The level of security is ideal for most clients and the authentication with AD/LDAP makes the solution easier to deploy.
It is a comprehensive product. Fortinet Fortigate is also great for intrusion protection as well as an antivirus. If you use it, you don't need another company to monitor your web traffic for you.
Stability: It is a very reliable product. We never experience performance problems or crashes.
The price of the product is lower than that of most similar platforms.
One of the main advantages of Fortinet FortiGate is that it can be deployed on the cloud or/and on-premises. Another nice feature is its easy integration with FortiCloud access products.
The main reason why we started using the product was for its single management pane. It is possible to deploy their line of firewalls in conjunction with their switching and access points, and we can simultaneously manage the entire network from one interface. It isn’t necessary to log into one interface for the firewall, another one for the access points, and another one for the switches.
It is a very secure tool that helps users keep their privacy. When deploying the solutions, you don't even have to enter the user's password. You can just install the software and create a profile. The user completes his or her profile by following a few very simple instructions.
Another item that comes bundled with the solution is the ready-made out-of-the-box templates. You don't have to customize them if you don't want to. There is also an option to create custom folders and reports, even though the predefined setup is probably sufficient. The built-in reports are good. We like that we can get real-time reports.
The solution's initial setup is straightforward. Now it can be done with a wizard and it is very quick and easy.
One issue I do have is with the solution’s monitoring. The monitoring is not as good as it could be. It could be a little more intuitive for the users. The online documentation isn’t always helpful for complex cases.
At the end of the day, this is a good complete solution not only as a WAN solution but also for firewall deployment and management. I rate this solution a nine out of ten and definitely recommend it. We have seen a good ROI with it.
