Germain APM provides an accurate view into the user experience for our Siebel Open UI users as well as transaction times within our Java applications. Additionally, it allows our technical teams the ability to quickly deep dive from the browser to the application server and database, showing us where the most time consuming transactions are taking place. Especially helpful for Open UI is the ability to group and export our users' JavaScript browser errors so that the development team can proactively address these items to improve our Siebel deployment's stability and performance.
What is most valuable?
How has it helped my organization?
Before Germain, we were reactive to users reporting issues with slow performance. Now we can monitor in near-real time their experience, and initiate corrective actions much more quickly. For example, when a network switch exceeded bandwidth capacity, we knew about the issue within minutes and engaged the proper teams.
What needs improvement?
Because Germain APM is capable of collecting and parsing data points from many areas (O/S, database, application logs, browser clicks, network devices, etc.) one can quickly overwhelm their Germain infrastructure. This is not so much an area of improvement for the product but more for clients to keep in mind so that they size their Germain infrastructure properly.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been live on Germain for 9 months now.
How are customer service and technical support?
Being used to working with large software vendors that have protracted and multi-layered support processes, it has been refreshing to work with Germain's technical support. Very often we find fixes and enhancements delivered within weeks or even days.
We have upgraded Germain twice now and each release has brought a wealth of valuable enhancements that further justify our decision to go with this APM.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Another team used Oracle OEM + RUEI but Germain has not only Siebel plug-ins (which perform much better than the Oracle tools) but also visibility into Java applications.
What other advice do I have?
Germain APM is an excellent tool for monitoring not only Siebel Open UI directly but also providing insight into the entire stack by correlating data points from hardware, software, operating systems, and browsers. With this platform, we now have a complete view of the usage and performance of our Siebel and Java applications.
