| Social media strategist at Creative Skills | 3.5 | We use 3i Infotech ORION as our ERP application because of its straightforward usability. However, there's room for improvement in user-friendliness and a need for features like forex reconciliation and cash flow planning. Microsoft Dynamics was considered but proved costlier. |
| ERP Database Administrator at a non-profit with 51-200 employees | 4.5 | I work for an NDR using 3i Infotech ORION for donor reporting and compliance in Kenya. Its financial, banking, and management modules are valuable, though the reporting module needs a drag-and-drop feature. We've achieved 80% ROI in financial operations. |
| ERP/IT HEAD at a consumer goods company with 1,001-5,000 employees | 3.0 | I find the solution has valuable features like a user-friendly mobile platform and customizations, but its dashboard/reporting needs improvement and some features are not working. It's easy to set up and fairly priced, but I rate it 6/10. |
| Sr. Manager Information Technology at a manufacturing company with 1,001-5,000 employees | 3.5 | After struggling with our old DOS-based system, we implemented Orion for improved control, faster reporting, and enhanced efficiency. Setup was easy, and we've experienced no stability issues since 2006. It's an affordable and valuable solution. |
The primary use case for us is as an ERP application.
The tool's usability is straightforward.
Improvements could be made regarding user-friendliness and transitioning fully to a web version. Features like forex reconciliation and a cash flow planning module could enhance the solution.
I have been using the 3i Infotech ORION solution for eight years.
I rate the tool's stability an eight out of ten.
My company has 50-60 users for 3i Infotech ORION. I rate the product's scalability a six out of ten.
The support team is dedicated and responds promptly to issues. Most problems are addressed by the next business day, and they work closely to resolve any issues, providing timelines for more complex matters.
Positive
The initial setup was straightforward, but due to back-and-forth engagements, customization and fine-tuning took time. The configuration for internal use requires time. The overall deployment took two weeks to complete. Two resources help us with the maintenance.
I rate the tool's pricing an eight out of ten. Customizations can cost you extra money.
As mentioned, we considered Microsoft Dynamics but found it more expensive than the product.
I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

I work for an NDR. I use this ERC solution as it is personalized for donor reporting and compliance in Kenya. It also has integration compliance with other revenue services.
The solution helps us to do spreadsheet reports on sales and quotations. After distribution, we can also manage the brands that we run.
We also get donor reports for projects we do with the donor bucket. The accounting option also integrates with many solutions we use on the ground.
This product is unique. We track the IPs for the tool verification on the platform. The three most crucial pieces are the financial modules, the banking module, and the management module.
They as well have features such as bank integration, Cylance, and internal management modules.
The reporting Module should be improved and a drag and drop functionality should be added.
I have been using the solution for seven years.
It is a highly stable solution. As long as you have the correct optimizations with their database and the correct free server, which is the configuration and provisioning, then the solution doesn't go down at all. It's Java-based, but it's stable.
The integrations are very seamless. We have integrations with other solutions. We have an integration with a CRM that we have had since the commission. I rate the stability a ten out of ten.
It is a scalable solution. As long as you show your requirements, it's very easy. You get what you pay for. As long as the requirement is clear, they deliver on point.
Orion is currently being run and supported by Advanto instead of 3i Infotech because it no longer exists. At present, ninety users are using the solution. We have an accounting and finance team, grant and contract team, sales, and warehousing team using the solution. The solution is being used on a regular basis. I rate the scalability a seven out of ten.
The technical support team is good. A thousand solutions are getting implemented globally, so there is some queuing. But the quality of the support was satisfying. I rate the support an eight out of ten.
Positive
The solution's initial setup is straightforward. The solution's deployment took three months. A business certification is needed and then the setup is possible. After that, there are months of follow-up.
The full consolidation took around us three months. That happens in parallel to Microsoft training. The transition and complete deployment took six months and touching base with each unit was needed.
We have seven modules deployed for the ERP. Seven people are needed for the testing and sign-off. But then, on the technical side, an email addressing the database administrator and the product owner is needed. The maintenance requirements are taken care of by the vendor.
I rate the initial setup a seven out of ten.
The solution's deployment was done in-house.
I see a return on investment because it manages our transactions when our banking team needs it continuously. The solution gives you evidence of the cost which is better for you. That is one area where we see a huge return on investment. We used to have an archiving department where, instead of ten people, we now have two people managing it. There is a huge scale-down when it comes to cost.
The bank transactions are integrated with less time spent verifying data from papers.
We received an 80% ROI for financial operations and a 70% ROI for reporting operations.
The solution is moderately priced. The licensing cost is around sixty thousand USD for annual maintenance. If you're using an application-specific license, it is a little cheaper. I rate the pricing a five out of ten.
There's only a little customization required. The one-year fee option is the best. Otherwise, you will want the on-premise setup. If it's on-premise, the only concern is the hardware and licensing. Other than that, it's a good solution.
I rate the overall solution a nine out of ten.
We use the solution in two manufacturing sectors for management.
I have found the solution has many valuable features such as a user-friendly mobile platform, notification settings, and the ability to do many customizations.
The build-in dashboard and reporting customization should be improved.
Additionally, there are some features not working I would like to see operational in the next release, for example, if you take the trial balance and you wanted to build up to code level, you are not able to check it currently.
We have approximately 150 users using the solution.
We were using Tally ERP previously and we switched because they did not have as many features and did not support the manufacturing industry.
The initial setup is not complicated.
The price of the solution is fair compared to competitors.
I rate 3i Infotech ORION a six out of ten.
After the Orion implementation, our finance team could prepare profit/loss statements and the balance sheets 3-4 days after a closing month. These three to four days are used by the finance team to compile provisions and bank charge entries in the system, as bank statements come to us 2-3 days after the month ends. The sales, inventory, finance reports were not changing like earlier as data was locked after entries.
Overall, this software helps the IT department to control the process. It helps management to ensure that people are following the processes, thereby improving efficiency and cost savings.
The system has enough controls, but still there is scope for improvement.
We have been using this solution since 2006.
We have not had stability issues.
We have not had scalability issues, so far.
Technical support is good.
Before 2005, we were using a DOS based software. This software was installed way back before I joined. It was based on a distributed database and needed to be consolidated every alternate day and many times at the end of the month due to mismatches.
Also, the depots could change the documents after sending data to head office. This created a problem of mismatch between head office data and warehouse data. Also, there was no control on inventory as it allows negative stock invoicing. This allows the depot to do invoicing without stock receipt entries. Warehouses enter all receipts at the month end in which they forgot to enter a few.
For the sales module, the software did not have the option for rate updates by customer type, by state, etc. Also, the schemes (free quantity along with the main product) and taxes were not automatic.
At the head office, the posting was a manual process for inventory, sales, and finance. The software also did not have a proper stock transfer issue and receipt process. At that time, we had 14 warehouses and three modules each for a single warehouse to be posted manually. It was a tedious task.
Due to all these problems, it was difficult to process financial data when it is required urgently. We used to prepare profit/loss statements and the balance sheet on the 20th of the next month for previous month. All these problems necessitated the need to install a new Integrated ERP system for getting data and information on time for the management to make informed decisions.
We made a panel consisting of key department people to review various software systems. Orion was one of three that we shortlisted.
We selected Orion for a few main reasons:
The IT team got trained on Orion at their office and we mapped our processes in the system with the help of 3i-Infotech’s consultants. This helped our IT team to understand the software. The rollout was smooth, as we ran the software parallel with old software for six months. This parallel run helped users to get used to the software without any additional pressure.
I performed the installation and setup by myself along with my team, with the support from a 3i-Infotech technical team. It was not difficult.
It is an affordable ERP system and rich in functionality. It provides good control of processes.
We evaluated four or five other tools.
The IT team should do the system study properly and document everything. If there is no technical functional person in house, hire one. The IT team should be involved in the implementation rather than leaving it to functional people or consultants, if you want the project to be successful. Make clear deadlines for all internal teams and follow up. IT should test the system before giving to users for UAT. It looks difficult and unconventional, but that will take you to the destination in time.
