I still work with Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches. We work with internet switches, but we also use LAN switches from Alcatel-Lucent. All the switches on the sites or across sites are Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches.
We use Aruba switches for our Wi-Fi network for the access points. The purposes for which we use Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches are network connectivity and network access and security with the NAC implementation.
I cannot exactly compare with Cisco or other vendors, but the graphical interface, particularly the new version, is really better than before.
Some things that we do now with the command line or CLI interface, we can now do more in the graphical interface or we can see it. Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches provide stable work with no issues. There is less downtime and fewer maintenance windows.
The specific network design is done by another company, and we just manage the access switches, in fact, the local access switches on the LAN. I don't think there is much prioritization in our network for the moment.
I don't think that the users see much about it; it's transparent for users. Whether there is a Cisco switch or an Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switch, the user doesn't care.

One of the main advantages of the solution is that the configuration is straightforward, offering various configuration options through CLI or web interfaces. Adapting to Alcatel switch configuration is relatively easy for those familiar with Cisco or HP configurations. The CLI, based on a Unix operating system (now Linux), provides easy access to essential information. Alcatel switches can be connected in a stack of up to eight elements.
A customer expressed dissatisfaction with the color of the switches, preferring black over the current color, which is close to white. While the color is not a personal concern, my earlier preference was for all products to be extendable in one large stack since some equipment limits stacking to four elements instead of eight.
I'm satisfied with the customer service and support.

I won't be able to comment on which features of the solution I found valuable since we support various users. However, we don't configure products for them. Also, we don't inspect their configuration. So, we wouldn't know how the switches are configured. We don't utilize any of the functions. The main functions of the solutions that we use are the diagnostic ones, in terms of viewing how the switches configure and related things. Other than that, we don't really dive into how the switches are configured for the network of our users.
I am not sure from the client's perspective what can be improved in the tool. From my perspective, service provisioning in the solution needs to improve. One of the things I noticed is the physical components that need to be improved. In general, the way the product is put together is not well done. For instance, in Cisco, things come together very nicely. Also, from a price point perspective, the product is very different from the other solutions. One of the things that Cisco does a lot better than Alcatel is the way that products are put together, especially in terms of how the brackets fit or the way switches are mounted. Also, components that need to be removable components so that they can provide a better view in general to its users, like Cisco.
I am working for a company that supports government agencies. We are not the end user of the product but the service providers. We use Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches. I have experience with Alcatel for the past six months. Also, there are users of the solution who might have more experience.
I can only comment on stability based on the number of cases I have seen. I haven't encountered any issues. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten. There are occasional failures of certain features, but nothing out of the ordinary that I haven't seen. Many of our clients have been using the product for years, so stability issues are bound to happen.
It's very unlikely that small and medium-level companies will require such dedicated network solutions, especially in today's environment. From my experience, especially in terms of private companies, most are actually moving towards cloud usage. I am operating a different service and providing network solutions to small companies. Many of these companies are looking for basic Wi-Fi solutions because many start or run the solution on AWS and through other cloud infrastructure providers. They don't need sophisticated in-house identity service engines or network infrastructure because all they need is to be assigned to Wi-Fi, after which everything is on the cloud. Many companies opt for much lower-end brands, which are not necessarily cheaper or lower-end. So, they are not opting for such dedicated solutions and using solutions like Ubiquiti. Most clients I serve use cheaper solutions like TP-Link or TP-Link Deco. So they are using Wi-Fi solutions that are usually meant for residential properties. I don't see a lot of demand from all these small or medium companies for products like Cisco or Alcatel. Many such companies do not require such solutions because the infrastructure and the services they need are mostly on the cloud.
We occasionally raise certain cases for the users by contacting technical support. I rate the technical support an eight or a nine out of ten. So far, they've been very professional and helpful, especially when we need to raise a case for any issue.

However, based on my experience, users who opt for outsourcing often consider Alcatel solutions due to budget concerns. While I don't have solid evidence or exact savings figures, it seems that Alcatel solutions are generally more cost-effective compared to Cisco alternatives. Therefore, budget considerations are a significant factor behind the preference for Alcatel solutions. Alcatel does have a better price value for some of the users compared to Cisco. Most people don't prioritize Alcatel switches as there is limited demand for dedicated switches. They usually prefer other products if they require switches, such as for access points or CCTV.
Coming from a Cisco background, it took some time for me to get used to Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches because of the different commands. But I do appreciate it because it is quite similar to Linux. Some commands are interchangeable, which is a plus point because previously, our engineering roles were to look at server administration as a server administrator. Since I had some experience with Linux, I could carry over some of those experiences when dealing with Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches.

Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches have elements that are suited for the hospitality industry. For example, they want a phone, switches, routers, and WiFi, all from one vendor. As a result, they can provide all solutions. They don't want to approach different vendors, for support, maintenance, or any other activities. From a single vendor, or they can view the entire IT solution from any office, at any infrastructure setup. If you go with any other third-party, you would have to rely on different vendors and setups for each manufacturer.
With Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch LAN Switches everything comes from one vendor. It operates very smoothly.
If the integration is not available, we look for a third-party solution.

We have no issues with scalability. They have 30 locations, with each using Alcatel-Lucent. They have approximately 40,000 users.
Hubs and telephones systems are made easy using Alcatel switches, otherwise, we could not use them for major projects.

The time it takes to deploy, varies from project to project. One switch will take half an hour. If you want to change a core switch, it is dependent on the configuration, what is required, and whether or not we need to meet with the customer. We must customize based on our understanding of the customer's requirements. We have no idea how long it will take you to configure. The IT customization solution is not the right approach. That's what I believe.
The license is purchased one time only, it is a perpetual license with no renewal. If they wish, they may purchase at the time of recruitment. For example, if they require 100-user telephones, they must purchase the 100-user license at the time of purchase. It is a one-time license purchase. Then, if they want, they can buy the license for the access points as well. It depends upon the number of users, but the license is a one-time purchase.

The most valuable feature is the ease of configuration. You have a single interface and do not have to switch modes, whether you are configuring the interface, VPN, or otherwise.
The Alcatel APs are very good, with a beautiful design, and they are easy to scale.
The security features are good.
There is no OEM support in India so RMAs need to be sent to France, which takes a long time if the hardware is faulty. Having regional support in India would be very helpful.
