We use OmniVista in our office, for network inter-connectivity.
OmniVista is a unified solution. It makes management easier in case the router, switch and the WiFi are of the same brand. It also allows us to monitor the WiFi signal strength, switch speed, and bandwidth consumption, and easily block users. We also use the analytics feature, which provides a dashboard showing the number of users per WiFi access point, signal strength, and internet performance. It also monitors the temperature of the equipment.
I use Omnivista mainly for network management and connectivity, including Mac address whitelisting and isolation, so users on the same WiFi can't see each other. However, for broader security needs, I use Sophos.
The support of Omnivista could be better. It's very expensive because it requires a subscription for support, and the licenses are proprietary. If you want to scale or expand your operation by adding more WiFi access points, you have to buy another license.
The web-based interface of OmniVista is user-friendly, but for some administrative tasks and functions, you have to use the CLI, which is difficult if you don't have enough training. It relies heavily on CLI guides and manuals.
For improvements, I'd suggest making the WiFi access points lighter. Lighter access points like those from TP-Link or Ubiquiti would be better. Additionally, the switches struggle with heat in our environment. They can get very hot and damage the electrical components due to inadequate cooling.
I have been working with OmniVista for the past five years.
The stability is very good, I'd rate it quite high.
I would rate OmniVista's scalability at seven out of ten. It could be improved a bit, especially regarding the need for additional licenses and equipment for scaling.
When comparing OmniVista with products from other vendors, I find that OmniVista can be more expensive due to its proprietary nature and licensing requirements, which can be a downside compared to more affordable options like Ubiquiti.
I would rate OmniVista's pricing seven out of ten since it is expensive.
I would recommend Omnivista to other users, specifically for enterprise-level organizations with more than thousand employees.
Overall, I would rate it an eight out of ten.

The solution is used for auditing and providing audit reports, sending mails, and notifications.
The solution is easy to manage, especially the configuration manager. It simplifies the process of adding, modifying, and removing users or new devices. The configuration manager allows for creating new users without using a physical interface or Telnet. Additionally, it offers detailed reporting and real-time monitoring of network performance.
In version 8.7.70, I am not able to change a user from administrative to room once the user is created. This limitation is challenging and was confirmed by Alcatel as not possible in the 8.7.70 version under the user section. The option of changing from administrative to room should be available in the user section.
I have been using the solution for about five to six years.
The solution is stable. I would rate it nine out of ten.
The scalability of the solution is good. I would give it an eight out of ten.
Alcatel Lucent's technical support is supportive. I am currently on a call with them, and they are very helpful. I would rate it a nine out of ten.
Positive
The initial setup is a bit complex. Some stages require an experienced person to read and understand them. It's challenging because there are many nodes. I will be installing it soon and have raised a ticket to Alcatel about this issue.
The solution is a bit expensive but provides return on investment.
The pricing is a little bit expensive.
I rate Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista an overall nine out of ten. The issue with changing a user from administrative to room under the user section needs improvement. If this could be resolved, the rating could be higher.
There are two versions of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista. Omnivista 2500 is for on-premise and Omnivista Cirrus.
Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is used to monitor and control equipment from Alcatel-Lucent.
The most valuable feature of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is the monitoring of wired and wireless equipment.
Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista could improve by adding more cybersecurity features.
I have used Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista within the last 12 months.
Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is a stable solution.
I rate Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista a five out of five.
We have four or five technical experts who control all the IT infrastructure. We do not plan to increase the usage of the solution because of the war.
The support from Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is good. They are fast and knowledgeable.
I rate the support from Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista a five out of five.
Positive
The initial setup of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is not difficult, it took approximately four hours.
We did the deployment of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista in-house with one engineer.
This is an open-source solution, we do not pay any money to use it.
I rate Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista an eight out of ten.

I am working with Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista, dealing with switches, such as the OmniSwitch and OmniAccess Stellar. I am also involved in working with ePBX and OmniBasics Enterprise.
The command line is very good, and the network is easy to implement. The support service from my company and the OEM's side is also very good, adding value to the IT infrastructure.
Scalability is good. The command line is very user-friendly, making it easy to implement the network.
One feature that is missing is the netting feature, which allows for public-to-private network transitions and vice versa. The implementation process itself might benefit from simplification.
Scalability is good. However, there are some features that are better in products from other vendors, which might be a customer requirement.
Customer service is good. My company also gives technical support along with the OEM, which is very good.
Positive
Initially, I worked with other products during my training period.
Implementing the network is not a big challenge for us.
I work with a very experienced team, and they help significantly with any issues.
Customers have seen a good return on investment, as the product is reliable and robust.
Pricing is known to be on the expensive side; however, customer reviews indicate that it is reliable and worth the cost.
I recommend Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista because the command line is very good, and the network is easy to implement. I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is used for access points and switches. If we take a closer look at performance, it's related to the switch and the access point. You can't sell Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista to any customer using Cisco, Aruba, etc. You can't sell it to any customer as a stand-alone product. Those who are using the switch and the access point, will also be using Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista for the configuration and maintenance.
We're using this solution for the configuration of the switches and the maintenance of the access points. It can also provide maintenance, e.g. it helps with the performance of the switches and the access points. It has a graphical view so you can see what is happening in the system, e.g. in the network, you can see how many access points are running, how many systems are running, and what is the health condition of the devices connected to the network. All those things are monitored from Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista.
This application, without the switches and without the access points, won't be applicable, so you can't sell it to a customer who's using Cisco.
What we found valuable from Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is that we are able to get reports, analytics, health analysis, and everything required by the customers . It will always depend on the customer requirements, and whatever the customer wants or requested, we are able to provide from this software.
What we'd like to see in the next release of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is a reliable and proper heatmap for the access points. There's no heatmap from any other vendor, but it would be good if this is something that can be provided in the next release.
Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is a stable solution. Everything is stable, the desktops are running, and there is no instability. It's very stable. We have backend support and engineers available, and there are no issues.
Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is a very scalable solution.
The technical support for Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is fast. When I call them up, I immediately get support from them. There are no issues from the manufacturer, especially in terms of support.
The initial setup for Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is very straightforward. It's not complicated, because you only need to download the software. The process takes one to two hours, particularly downloading the application, but the customization takes time.
We have technical engineers available, including backend support for our customers. In our case, based on the customer requirements, it can take three to four hours for simple configuration.
The price of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is cheaper compared to other tools on the market, though it could still be made cheaper in the point of view of the customer in terms of the price vs the benefit, and also vs any new product that comes.
The license for this software is a one-time license only, so there is no renewal needed. It's a perpetual license.
We are selling Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista. It's a suite for the access point, so there's the same pattern, same customer, and same utilization.
The solution is deployed on-premises.
There's nothing I'd like to change in Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista, because it has everything, so there are no issues. Whatever is required, they add it from their side when they are developing the software. They release patches and they do the release if anything new thing comes out, e.g. new security, anything they want to add, patches, etc., they will add it. They will launch it in a new release every quarter or every six months, so we'll do patch upgrade or release upgrade. I find the service good in Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista.
We have over 100 customers using the software. As for our technical team in charge of deployment and maintenance, we have technical engineers and backend support.
I would recommend Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista to others.
I'm rating Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista ten out of ten. It's related to the suite for the access point, so it's not a different solution, and there's no different pattern.
We use the solution to manage network connections for ethernet suites and wireless solutions.
The solution helps us secure confidential information like credentials.
The solution's most valuable features are network management and security.
They should add more security features to the solution. Also, they should provide a secure platform to manage our networks.
We have been using the solution for five years.
I rate the solution's stability as an eight.
We have 60 solution users, including our team and clients. I rate its scalability as a ten.
The solution's technical support could be better.
Neutral
The solution's initial setup was straightforward for our organization. But it was complex for some of our clients.
The solution has generated worthwhile ROI for us.
The first ten permits for the solution are free of cost. Afterward, we have to pay for the licenses. They are available at reasonable prices.
The solution is a good investment for features. I rate it as an eight.
It is our single pane of glass for the management and incident reporting of both wired and wireless infrastructure.
Being able to see the health of the network is most valuable. It is very strong in terms of stability and scalability. Their technical support is also good.
It needs to be infused with more artificial intelligence and machine learning.
I have been working with the Alcatel product set for about 21 years. I have been working with OmniVista for probably three years.
It is very strong in terms of stability.
It is also very strong in terms of scalability.
Their technical support is good. As a matter of fact, we've been able to have a dialogue with the product specialists who continue to enrich the product.
Its initial setup is rather straightforward.
It does contribute to a return on investment.
I would advise others to just explore the power that exists within the platform. It is very rich, and you should really explore all the assets of the product. We're just beginning to work with their API, and so far, it is not bad.
I would rate Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista an eight out of ten.
We use it to monitor and manage our wireless-base and to create reports. It has a little more effective reporting as far as timelines go because it goes back and controllers can't natively do that.
It makes me a little more mobile. Instead of having to sit there and monitor 1,300 access points with a window's glass, it's that moment I can control, I can provide, I can go off and do other things. And if something happens, I get a message. That way, it makes me a little more mobile.
I really like Visual RAF. I use that a lot and then I use the up and down status reports because it'll send me emails and text messages when access points go up or down. That way, I'm aware of what's going on.
I would like to see a little better reporting, not reporting features, the report maker to be a little better.
I have been using this solution for over two years.
It's incredibly stable. I haven't had any problems with it.
It could scale up to however many access points you provided, as long as you keep in mind hardware limits.
I'm the network admin so I'm the main user of it. My boss, the director uses it for some reporting. And then the other network administrator uses it from time to time as needed.
We only need to do updates and maintenance every once in a while. It only needs one person to maintain it.
I've never had to use technical support because it's like the rest of Alcatel stuff, it's good.
The initial setup was straightforward. It was pretty easy with them.
Make sure you're organized when you set it up because I think it would be harder to recover from a lack of organization than anything on there.
Its interface is a little clunky as far as making the reports. A "what you see is what you get" editor type thing would be pretty good.
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
We use the Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista for analytics, appointment manager, and security.
The reports are good.
The location of the WiFi connection should be available to all users.
I have been using Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista for approximately five years.
The solution is stable.
Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is scalable.
The technical support was good. I did not have any problems with them.
The solution was easy for me to set up. The time frame of installation depends on many variables. It took us two days.
I would recommend this solution to others.
I rate Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista a ten out of ten.
