I work as a Cloud Operations Engineer at PowerSchool India Private Limited, and I have been using Appgate SDP for about four years. My company has nine sites where we use Appgate SDP before logging in so that we can access the cloud environment very efficiently and accurately without any hassles or disruptions from anywhere. We provide our credentials, authenticate, and log in to the application, connecting to all nine sites used in PowerSchool. My team utilizes Appgate SDP in the same way within the Appgate environment.

The first best feature that Appgate SDP offers is the Zero Trust architecture, which is the biggest strength. Regarding micro-segmentation, users can only see and access the applications they are authorized to use.

Appgate SDP has positively impacted my organization by strengthening our security posture and providing more granular control over access to internal resources we handle daily. The Zero Trust architecture and micro-segmentation have helped reduce the attack surface and minimize the risk of unauthorized access while improving the remote access experience and reducing reliance on traditional VPN infrastructure. Overall, Appgate SDP has enhanced visibility, simplified access management, and supported our security and compliance requirements efficiently.

The reporting can be improved, as Appgate SDP is strong but could benefit from enhanced reporting features. This would improve visibility and simplify operational monitoring, along with simpler initial deployment. The initial setup and configuration require a good understanding of Zero Trust principles. The user interface can also be improved, as the administrative interface and policy workflows would make day-to-day operations easier for security teams. Additionally, more AI-driven insights such as anomaly detection and automated policy recommendations would further enhance security operations, along with richer reporting and dashboard capabilities.

Regarding scalability, we can improve it for larger-scale deployments, making the platform more effective for growing enterprises and benefiting organizations with large and distributed user populations. Many users starting with Appgate SDP would see improvements from better centralized policy management for large environments and more efficient handling for large-scale deployments while improving monitoring and reporting across multiple regions. Additional automation capabilities would also support expanding infrastructures.

I have been using Appgate SDP for four years, and I started using it at PowerSchool.

Appgate SDP is very stable and efficient.

It has good scalability and supports our growing user base and infrastructure requirements. The platform's flexible architecture and centralized policy management help extend secure access across multiple environments, and as organizations scale, additional integrations, centralized administration, reporting, and automation further simplify management for large and distributed deployments.

Customer support is quite good. When we raise any case or issue, we receive a good response from them, and they often resolve our issues.

Earlier, we used a regular VPN, but since PowerSchool, I have been using Appgate SDP, which has been very useful and efficient for us.

There are several things that have helped our organization. Appgate SDP helped us save time and reduce operational costs by simplifying secure remote access compared to traditional VPN infrastructure and streamlining process management through policies. With the Zero Trust approach, we administer secure user activity without exposing the entire network. The centralized policy framework reduces the time required to provision and manage access, resulting in both time savings and improved security.

Regarding pricing and setup cost, everything is already pre-installed in my organization, so I am not sure about pricing details, as the other team handles it.

I would rate Appgate SDP a 10 out of 10 and recommend it to every company. It has overcome the VPN model, and Appgate SDP is currently in a thriving state where every organization is using it.

The multiple factors, especially the Zero Trust policy, stand out the most for me, which is why I recommend a 10 out of 10.

Regarding governance and security, Appgate SDP primarily focuses on Zero Trust Network Access where it controls access based on user identity and device posture, which helps strengthen security. Moreover, having advanced AI capabilities such as predictive threat detection and automated policy recommendations further strengthens the solution, making governance and security among Appgate SDP's strongest capabilities. This significantly improves our organization's security posture and enforces the principle of least privilege.

I have been using Appgate SDP since the beginning of my time at PowerSchool.

I strongly recommend Appgate SDP to every organization because it overcomes traditional VPN limitations. I strongly recommend Appgate SDP because of its scalability and Zero Trust platform service, making it highly suitable for various options. My overall rating for this product is 10 out of 10.

My main use case for Appgate SDP is for security purposes. We are trying to use it to connect with our VPNs and the network so that we can improve our organization's security.

A specific example of how we use Appgate SDP for security and with our VPNs is that Danfoss security team has implemented a no-trust policy, requiring everybody to install Appgate SDP with a default account. Whenever we start our system, it will automatically connect to the different VPNs through which our network is going. If it is disabled, we are unable to access the internet, as all our network goes through a firewall. If Appgate SDP is not connected to all of the VPNs, then we are not able to browse the internet.

In my experience, the best features Appgate SDP offers are reliable connectivity across different environments and strong policy-based access.

When I mention strong policy-based features, I mean that if I want to secure all the systems in my organization, I can apply a particular policy through which all the network has to go, making it easy to implement security compliance throughout the organization.

Appgate SDP has positively impacted my organization, as we are using it to securely access the internet after the cyber attack. After the implementation of Appgate SDP, I did not hear about any security incidents.

If I could change or improve anything about Appgate SDP, it would be to enhance the user experience by improving the UI so that it is more explanatory. Currently, the UI feels as though it is doing something behind the scenes, and at first sight, nobody can understand what this application is for. I think that is the main thing regarding needed improvements.

I have been using Appgate SDP for around two years.

My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing is that this whole thing is managed by the security team, and there are different teams involved, so I do not have knowledge about cost. I think it is important for security because if a security incident happens, you lose more money than you save.

I do not have anything else to add about my main use case or how it is set up for my team. I do not have anything else about the features I find valuable.

My advice for others looking into using Appgate SDP is to use it, as it is a good application.

We use Appgate SDP as a substitute for traditional VPN.

They could provide a single-box solution to manage tools for 4000 users. Additionally, they could add extra features to enhance remote micro connection.

We have been using Appgate SDP for two years.

I rate the product’s stability a ten out of ten.

The product encountered challenges accommodating the first 1000 users. We had to manage them individually, each with its unique code.

I rate the scalability a nine out of ten.

Our experience with Appgate SDP's customer service and support has been generally positive. While we haven't encountered any critical problems requiring urgent resolution, the response to inquiries and questions has been satisfactory. They answer the queries shortly.

The initial setup is complex for users who need to gain specific knowledge about the process. Once they grasp the knowledge, it is easy to deploy. It takes approximately two months to complete. At the moment, Appgate team is maintaining the product for us.

Appgate SDP has significantly streamlined our access management, providing a notably efficient solution compared to traditional VPNs. The simplicity of the SDP platform is a standout feature; instead of navigating through intricate details, users can seamlessly connect to the company's network or switch to the internet with minimal effort, unlike VPNs which often involve waiting for connection handling and unblocking. Recognizing the robustness of SDP, we made strategic decisions to minimize reliance on VPNs, reserving only two for administrative purposes.

In a scenario where Appgate SDP significantly improved our network security posture, the platform played a crucial role in fortifying defenses against major threats. The encryption algorithms utilized by SDP provide a high level of security to our network architecture.

Compared to Cisco, SDP proves to be most critical in protecting resources with the help of role-based policies. It only provides selective access to the application.

The dynamic policy engine significantly enhances our access control mechanisms. It has single sign-on and multifactor authentication features. It makes processes faster and easier.

It has helped our IT team to manage the workload with ease. It gives an intelligent solution whenever they face traffic-related problems.

I rate it a nine out of ten.

If you want to change your VPN solutions, for example, on Cisco ASA, you can deploy a multifactor authentication inside Appgate SDP. Afterward, you can make a micro-segmentation with these connections.

The core use is as a VPN connection. It is very useful to our company.

It's easy to deploy and implement the product. 

You can hide the servers, and you can avoid lateral movement if you pick up any ransomware, for example.

The solution offers good support.

It is pretty stable.

We can scale the solution. 

On the cloud, when you make some changes, it may be difficult. However, on-premises is very good, and I like it.

We'd like to be able to change the VPN connection for different areas. For example, if finance wants to connect to SAP, you could grant access to certain people for that, on a specific server.

I've been using the solution for three or four years. 

This is a stable solution. If you have a broken connection, with Appgate SDP, you can enjoy 12 hours in the cache to repair or fix the issue. 

You do have enough control in order to be able to scale if needed. 

We have 100 users on the solution currently.

It's possible that we might increase usage in the future. I'd need to contract more first. 

Technical support is really good. If any issues are related to networking, they are quite helpful. 

We did previously use Ivanti. 

The solution is very easy to deploy. You can deploy it in ten minutes, so it is very fast. 

We have three people on staff that can handle maintenance tasks. 

We used a consultant, and they assisted us in the implementation process. 

I'm not sure if I witnessed any ROI just yet.

We pay $100 per user per month. One license for the site is around $17.

We did look into Check Point, among other potential solutions, before choosing this product.

Appgate SDP is the best solution for micro-segmentation and supplying VPN solutions. I'd rate it ten out of ten.

We are using Appgate SDP for our remote workers and to protect some of our digital assets. It helps stop lateral movement across our network and our servers.

One of the most important features is stopping lateral movement across our network.

It would be better to connect to an application portal from any device. Documentation and support could be better.

I have been using Appgate SDP for about seven years or since 2016.

Appgate SDP is a stable solution.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give stability a nine.

Appgate SDP is a scalable solution. We started with about 20 users, and now we have about 2,000 users.

Support could be better. I have contacted them a few times.

The initial setup gets easier once you get used to it.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give the initial setup a six.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Appgate SDP an eight.

We used Appgate as our main VPN in my previous company. We updated and used Appgate until version 6. There were hundreds of users.

We used the cloud version.

The interface is really friendly. It's simple to understand.

One limitation is that it's harder to provide access to multiple applications in the company with Appgate, but that's probably because of poor management.

The solution is fine as it is, but it would be better if it could help us access general public sites. It would be better to not create a separate policy for that.

It's stable. It's more secure than the VPNs. Our company preferred using Appgate because of certain security issues. They preferred Appgate because of the policies that prevent unauthorized access.

It's scalable.

We previously used Pulse VPN. It was a bit difficult to deploy compared to Appgate, and it had its fair share of constraints.

It was really straightforward. Deployment took a couple of days.

We maintained the solution from the backend. There were about 20-30 people involved in maintenance.

Deployment was done in-house.

I would rate this solution as eight out of ten. 

It's a good software to implement. The interface is really friendly, it's easy to deploy, and it's more secure. I would recommend Appgate over other VPNs.

It is a network access control solution. It is used for local access as well as remote access.

I have been using the most recent version of it.

The benefit is a more granular access control structure than a traditional VPN.

The flexibility of the tool is valuable. It is very robust. It has a very robust configuration capability.

It is pretty well documented. It is also good interface-wise. They've made some improvements over the past few patches.

It comes down to cost. It is a pretty expensive tool.

One thing that kind of sticks out to me is the ability to do a proper non-split tunnel. VPN tunnel-wise, it is not really a true unsplit tunnel, but I think that's just because of the way it's designed. A split VPN basically allows your system to talk to other systems without being forced down the tunnel. A VPN running in a non-split tunnel mode forces all the traffic down the tunnel to wherever you're VPNing to. It forces the traffic down so that the traffic is subject to the firewall and rules that you have in your corporate environment and such. It helps to prevent remote malicious folks that may be talking directly to that box from piggybacking into the corporate environment through it. They do it partially, but it would be nice to see more of an enterprise-level solution there.

I have been using this solution for a couple of years.

It has good stability.

It is good in terms of scalability.

It is still kind of in the demo mode, so it is not very widely deployed. We currently have maybe a dozen folks.

They're pretty good. I would rate them a four out of five.

This is really the first solution for this particular task. So, it is new.

It is moderately complex. There is a learning curve there.

I didn't really set it all up in one shot. It probably took days or maybe about a week or so.

I did it in-house. I also take care of its maintenance.

It is a pretty expensive tool. It is maybe about $20,000 per year for a hundred users or so.

It comes down to just your doing your typical homework and evaluating other competing products and making sure it is the best fit.

I would rate it a nine out of 10. It is a very capable tool.

I worked with the access of the NAC products for the last twenty years, and then there was a shift to cloud connection, and products like Appgate SDP were being used because the parameter was out, and we needed to understand how to connect the application in the hybrid work mode.

Firstly, the granularity feature of the solution allows it to build granular rules to access different applications. Secondly, the capacity to view the connection is another valuable feature of the solution.

The user interface should be improved as it is not very easy to work with the updates.

I have been using Appgate SDP for five years.

In my lab environment, the stability is very good.

It is a scalable solution.

I directly contact Appgate's technical support and seek guidance from them. The support answers your questions very fast. I rate the technical support a nine out of ten.

For the initial setup, one needs to know if they want to configure the solution. It is not intuitive. When I started with the solution, it was not very easy, so I will rate the setup phase a five out of ten. After studying it and finding it easy now, I rate the initial setup an eight out of ten.

I only have a relation with the update in the lab environment, not the deployment.

The pricing is according to the market price. It is not a very cheap solution. They have some very aggressive promotions to sell the product in the market.

Firstly, one needs to understand the difference between a conventional VPN and Appgate because the application needs to have a one-on-one interaction with the user. The network view is the second step of the VPN, while the first is the interaction. Secondly, for the security of the solution, you need to generate a hard panel between the application and the user.

It is a good product. I rate the overall solution a nine out of ten.
