We use the solution to work with operating systems. We have two Superdomes on the production site. Both servers have active failover cluster nodes. So the shared storage from 3par shifts on one or the other node as per the requirement. If one of the Superdome functions fail, then with the help of Serviceguard, all the applications get shifted to the other node.
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The solution's most valuable feature is the ability to create a Mount Point Package. With the help of a predefined set of shells, it connects a specific group of points to all those large groups in a single package. Thus, you will get all the mount points if the package is up; when it is down, all the mount points vanish. In case of hardware failure, the package automatically shifts from one node to another. Also, Serviceguard allows us to customize scripts in the configuration.
What needs improvement?
They should continue with the certificate for the consequent year as well. They must keep the product up and running for a long time as it is currently static. There are a lot of challenges as well. Sometimes, the mount point gets lost depending on link failure or census problems. The solution works on a standard script, but it has many tech issues to fix with the OS. You have to keep checking network connectivity, OS connectivity, etc. If any of these fails, then you do not get the certificate.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using the solution since the year 2004.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the solution's stability as a nine.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution's scalability is excellent and I rate it as a ten.
How are customer service and support?
The solution's customer service is excellent. The engineers from HP's tech support team work excellently. But vendor support varies. We have shifted from one vendor to another vendor. We have been working with a new vendor for a few months. They seem good. But, the old vendor's support was not up to the expectations.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Microsoft's initial setup is more effortless than HPE's because of its graphical interface. You can click on the service icon and get its pricing information, or you can get the details of past configurations as well. Despite this, HPE is 100% better than Microsoft.
How was the initial setup?
The setup comes with a challenge, but it is not complex.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is available at a high price. I rate it as two for pricing.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend the solution to others as it is a good solution. I rate it as an eight.
