Oracle Database Backup Service Reviews

I am using Oracle Database Backup Service with RMAN, daily backups, incremental backups, and full database backups. The service is also used for importing from the backup as part of daily tasks.

Oracle Database Backup Service is stable and offers high availability. The commands for restoration and backup processes are not complicated.

The service is highly recommended because it is very secure. The features are readily available and easy to use within Oracle products.

Oracle Database Backup Service can be integrated with any system.

It is highly recommended for medium or large businesses. The service is safe, stable, and recommended for anyone who wants to use big data information. The configuration process is also straightforward.

While there are some disadvantages in this product, from my experience with basic use cases, daily tasks, integration, scheduling, saving, and encryption, I have not encountered significant areas for improvement.

However, the addition of a GUI configuration management and administration console for all administrative tasks would be highly beneficial. It would be preferable to have the ability to perform all console, terminal, and command line operations through a GUI interface.

I have been using Oracle Database Backup Service for almost 10 years.

Oracle Database Backup Service is 80 to 90% stable.

The scalability is easy for 70% of cases. However, in some use cases, it can be very complicated.

The normal behavior from Oracle Database Backup Service customer service is excellent, though it can depend on specific circumstances.

However, it is important to note that beginners and even some senior professionals may encounter significant difficulties during installation.

The Return on Investment takes a long term to realize.

This operation is specifically performed automatically by the product itself, not from the user side.

As a service provider, the retention policy depends on the agreement with the customer. Retention policies can be set for 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, or one year.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate Oracle Database Backup Service a 10.

Oracle Database Backup Service is a prerequisite for any 3D environment. All database backups and restores are handled through this instance. It operates as a backend system, which is essential for the business's and its projects' smooth functioning.

The solution provides timely data storage and restoration with point-in-time recovery. It is a combination of the master product and the database required to get the desired output.

The customer support’s communication and timely response should be improved. During the production mode, things often get down.

I have been using Oracle Database Backup Service for more than 20 years.

The product is 100% stable.

I rate the solution’s stability a ten out of ten.

I rate the solution’s scalability a six to seven out of ten.

The initial setup is difficult because of the licensing model and the expertise level requirement for the hardware. Starting on these services is quite difficult and expensive. It depends upon the cost value to make it workable in an easy environment. It depends on the type of client and projects in the business model. You get the inputs of the project; then you invest in it.

Deployment depends on the project size. It sometimes takes a week or two to deploy the first version, depending on the client’s requirements.

To deploy, we have products and a variety of tools available. We either use Oracle or SQL, depending on the project size.

I rate the initial setup a seven out of ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy.

We do the deployment by ourselves. We have expert teams. We do all the activities in the office among people. We require nothing from the external vendors.

Three to four people with multiple roles, including DB administrator and engineer, are required for the deployment. Understand and troubleshoot the system. That’s a minimum requirement.

Three to four guys are required for maintenance and troubleshooting.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight to nine out of ten.

We use Oracle Database Backup Service to manage incremental, differential, and cumulative backups.

The product's most valuable features are differential and cumulative backup functionality.

We encounter issues while restoring differential and cumulative backups.

The technical support services are good.

The initial setup process is easy.

The platform is expensive.

I recommend Oracle Database Backup Service to others and rate it a nine out of ten.

We use Oracle Database Backup Service to manage backups of SAP workloads.

Oracle Database Backup Service is an easy-to-use consolidation solution that's dashboard-driven. SAP provides some tools through its back-end interface. The Oracle backup manager interfaces with the back end and gives an Oracle front end to the backup mechanism.

Oracle Database Backup Service is not a cheap solution.

Oracle Database Backup Service is a very stable solution.

Oracle Database Backup Service is a pretty scalable solution.

The solution's customer support is very good.

The solution's initial setup is pretty straightforward. I rate Oracle Database Backup Service an eight out of ten for the ease of its initial setup.

Database administrators and system administrators can deploy the solution in no more than a day or two. The number of resources required for the deployment would depend on the complexity and scale of the database to be backed up.

On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate Oracle Database Backup Service a seven or eight out of ten.

Once the solution is in place, there's not a lot of maintenance required. We definitely have a maintenance contract with Oracle, but nothing out of the ordinary.

I would recommend Oracle Database Backup Service to users using Oracle databases.

We work with the solution as a systems integrator.

Overall, I rate Oracle Database Backup Service an eight out of ten.

Recovery assurance is valuable to us. The backup is reliable and intuitive. We have an assurance of recovery, which may not happen with other regular backup systems.

The system can be used only for Oracle Database. We cannot use the product with other brands. If there are multiple data loss events, we may have to link our current programs with the production database because the product can't sync this data loss. This process impacts the user experience. We need excellent links and duplicated connections to have more possibilities and setups in the product. We struggled a lot with network impacts.

I have been using this solution for three years.

Our clients love the solution. I have very good feedback from clients about the product.

The solution is highly scalable, and we can configure it with the product server.

The product’s architecture is complex. Every person in the project feels that the product is very complex.

Overall, I rate the solution seven out of ten.

I provide architectural consulting for end users. I design business continuity, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions and review the customer's entire end-to-end deployment of all of their technology. It's about supporting any number of applications, whether it be enterprise level applications, SAP, different customer applications, trading, financial information, and the like. I'm an implementer. 

I've found the most valuable feature to be the replication and performance tuning; they're used at every site. The feature functionality is nailed in this solution. 

I think deployment of the solution could be streamlined quite a bit. It takes quite an effort when you're bringing it up cold. Patch management could also be streamlined and simplified, keeping up to date with the software and things like that. It's currently unnecessarily complex. 

I've been using this product for 18 years. 

Scalability is outstanding and I think second to none. It scales much better than your mix of PD products like SQL, or MySQL point database products like Apache. All of them scale to some degree or another, but I think scalability is really where Oracle shines.

Experience with technical support is generally good. I happen to have access to the person that writes the textbooks and leads the training classes on performance tuning for Oracle here in Austin, so my experience may be a little bit different than that of a typical end user. Dealing with Oracle support itself is like any other support. It's a crapshoot. Sometimes you get outstanding support, sometimes you get terrible support. Sometimes you can't even understand what the person is saying because their accent is so thick.

The initial setup is overly complex, unnecessarily so.

We've definitely seen an ROI despite this being an expensive solution. It scales better, it's the truest enterprise database software, and I think it's the best. I believe you get the best return on investment with this product. 

It's important to do your homework and have a good understanding of how best to implement best practices. If you're just clicking next, next, next, finish, I think you're opening yourself up to a lot of problems. There are a number of different configuration parameters and different options that, from a performance and stability perspective, aren't the default. Products such as Microsoft SQL, for example, can pretty much be used in the default configuration and you can get away with it without any difficulty. With Oracle, you really need to have an understanding of what you're doing, otherwise you're asking for trouble.

I rate this solution an eight out of 10. 

We have had our sales success stories in the banking sector primarily. Many companies who are interested in having Oracle Database Backup Service deployed will contact us for the storage. 

The FSI sector, as well as any medium to large size company that is interested in Oracle ERP, or Oracle BI, or Hyperion predictive analysis, are our primary customers.

Pricing is an area that needs improvement.

If you do a comparison with other products, it's more expensive and it stops a few customers from purchasing Oracle, especially the engineered systems that have the data and more, which are relatively expensive. 

One thing is that Oracle is more focused on Cloud rather than on-premises implementation. 
Also, to support the on-premises version, they provide a lot more offerings on cloud rather than on-premises. 

The license price does go up and so again, it's pricing, directly or indirectly. 

With Oracle, it's according to the country. We have our own regulations here. The banks cannot put their data on the Cloud and have to definitely go for the on-premises solution.

They should base their strategy according to the country and the regulations there, and focus more on the on-premises deployment.

Oracle offers middleware as well. They have two-factor authentication and the Oracle Identity and Access Management on the software side. This is an area that Oracle has some competition in and an area that they should be focused on more in terms of creating and enablement for people here in Pakistan.

We have been acquainted with the Oracle Database Backup Service for approximately 20 years. We have the latest version.

It's a scalable product.

An average bank has somewhere between 1,000 to 5,000 employees. They use Oracle ERP Suite, like HCM, Human Capital Management, Supply Chain, and all of these features. 

They basically extract the data from the database, which can be anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 users.

The customer base that we have are not like the rest, because we are dealing with ERP. But, we are just providing the storage so I can't really provide you with the number of users. I would estimate that for a regular bank, about 2,000 to 3,000 users. With 10 banks, I'll say that probably about 50,000 users would be accessing Oracle Database to get the information out and storing the data.

Oracle does extend us the support, and we sell Oracle services as well.

We buy support from Oracle directly because they generate this ID CSI. 

The support is embedded to a certain extent directly to the customer, as well as our technical team. In case there's something that we can offer directly, we do offer it as separate support in our invoice.

The initial setup was straightforward.

Our team is involved right from the sale down to the implementation and support services as well. For a regular implementation, we have a database administrator and a systems person.

We have a team of four who would be able to deploy the Oracle Hardware, other than rack mounting. We engage with network people as well, similar to silent ITs.

We have our deployment team who takes care of the implementation.

It's an expensive solution and is an area that needs improvement.

Customers will usually go for ASL, a Rack, or a Quarter Rack, then upsize to their requirements. This is a product that I recommend to others who are interested in using it.

I would rate Oracle Database Backup Service a nine out of ten.

We use the solution to ensure data recovery. If something goes wrong and the data is corrupted, we can always restore it from our backup. The solution simplifies our data protection strategies. Since we have a backup, we can always restore the server or the cloud.

I like everything about the product. From the database perspective, Oracle is the best.

The product can protect from external data penetration, but the in-house IT team can access it. One simple update can mess up the entire system.

I have been using the solution for eight years.

If the tool is on-premise, the stability depends on how we set it up and how often we take backups. If we take it once a month, it’ll be a problem. The tool is stable.

The tool is scalable.

The setup is pretty straightforward. The deployment is done in-house.

The pricing must be improved. The only problem with Oracle is its pricing.

When ADS came in, it caused major complexities. It didn’t have a reporting tool. We had to use JasperReports or other tools. I set up the backup locally. The recovery time objective and recovery point objective are defined by the user. Overall, I rate the product an eight out of ten.

I primarily use the product for schema and table backup.

The solution offers fast and reliable services. 

The most valuable feature is the ability to perform encrypted backups after any learning.

The solution needs to add an archive function. 

I have been using Oracle Database Backup Service since 2019.

On a scale of one to ten, I would rate the scalability of Oracle Database Backup Service as ten for our organization. My company has one user for it. 

The support from Oracle is usually fast.
