Has reduced storage costs and improved data management through automated lifecycle and seamless service integration
The best features that Amazon S3 offers are high durability and availability with virtually unlimited storage, lifecycle management for automated tiering and cost control, versioning to retain and recover data changes, and integration with services such as Glue, Athena, EMR, Lambda, along with strong security via IAM roles, bucket policies, and encryption. These features help by ensuring data is always available, securely stored, and easily accessible for pipelines. Lifecycle policies reduce manual cleanup, versioning safeguards against accidental deletions, and integrations allow us to directly run analytics or trigger workflows without moving data around. Amazon S3 event notifications help automate tasks such as triggering ETL jobs or Lambda functions on new data arrivals, and features such as cross-region replication ensure data redundancy and compliance, while fine-grained access control makes it easy to manage permissions across teams securely. My organization has seen improvements in data accessibility, reduced infrastructure costs, and simplified data management through Amazon S3. We now have a unified scalable storage layer that supports analytics, backups, and migrations seamlessly, leading to faster workflows and better decision-making.

Achieve high availability and security with automated tasks over a decade
While there are some disadvantages in this product, from my experience with basic use cases, daily tasks, integration, scheduling, saving, and encryption, I have not encountered significant areas for improvement. However, the addition of a GUI configuration management and administration console for all administrative tasks would be highly beneficial. It would be preferable to have the ability to perform all console, terminal, and command line operations through a GUI interface.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have cold storage here, and I think that's useful; when it comes to commercialization, it's cheaper to put data that you won't be using into the data storage, and you only use a little bit of the data needed each day for your transition, so you pay less."
"The support from Amazon S3 has been knowledgable and responsive."
"In the housing market, we have a lot of buying and they use the application to manage their lectures and receipts."
"One of the benefits is being a global service, so it can be accessed from anywhere."
"Speed, size, and security are the most valuable features."
"The most effective features of Amazon S3 are its robust storage capabilities wherein you can combine it with different solutions, using it as a repository for analytics, whether for video analytics or data analytics, allowing for dynamic adjustment of storage automatically without any requisition or long process."
"Amazon S3 is scalable and available."
"The integration with Cloudfront helps in fetching the static phase and default phases in case our actual service is down."
"Replication and performance tuning are valuable features."
"I am satisfied with the licensing policy and pricing of this product."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to perform encrypted backups after any learning."
"We've definitely seen an ROI despite this being an expensive solution."
"The interface is good."
"This is a product that I recommend to others who are interested in using it."
"The product's most valuable features are differential and cumulative backup functionality."
"I like the stability and the scalability of this product."

Cons

"The only downside is the scalability limitations."
"No direct connector is available to connect Amazon S3 with other tools like MicroStrategy."
"If a certain resource is left unchecked, you can easily use a lot of it and drive up costs."
"The upload speed for data and documents is sometimes slow."
"There's a lot of complexity."
"I would also like S3 to have the ability to do dynamic websites without the need to do reconfigurations outside of S3. You should be able to switch on dynamic websites in S3, and then it works. I shouldn't need to go elsewhere within Amazon Web Services to get a dynamic website to work."
"When we need to find the queries there is no user interface, it is the only textual format that is bulky. If we need some data we will use Athena for queries and we will get results. When comparing this solution to others, such as DataDog, they provide a wonderful UI, and user-friendly dashboards, and many other features that this solution is lacking."
"The down side is the web app should be aware of all the features that S3 provides in order to leverage its full potential."
"We encounter issues while restoring differential and cumulative backups."
"Deployment is overly complex and could be streamlined."
"Pricing is an area that needs improvement. If you do a comparison with other products, it's more expensive and it stops a few customers from purchasing Oracle, especially the engineered systems that have the data and more, which are relatively expensive."
"They should base their strategy according to the country and the regulations there, and focus more on the on-premises deployment."
"Oracle Database Backup Service is not a cheap solution."
"We cannot use the product with other brands."
"Price is always an area that could be made better, as it is quite expensive."
"The product's technical support services need improvement in terms of response time."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I have seen the pricing on AWS, but I believe it's a discount price for organizations."
"For pricing, I would give it a six or seven out of ten."
"The licensing is pay as you go, and I'm happy with the pricing."
"The cost of Amazon S3 could be better. As the number of data increases, you'll pay more for Amazon S3. It's around $200, which is okay, but my company uses it less often."
"The cost varies based on the type of subscription you chose."
"I use the tool's free tier. I believe that there is a need to make annual payments towards the licensing charges associated with the product."
"There is a license needed to use this solution and it is reasonably priced."
"I know it is very inexpensive compared to other solutions."
"Price is always an area that could be made better, as it is quite expensive."

"The platform is expensive."
