What is our primary use case?
Pardot is a marketing automation platform built on Salesforce. Pardot allows seamless integration with Salesforce CRM, eliminating the need for separate marketing automation tools to connect to the CRM. This integration mitigates the risk of clients needing additional email marketing licenses. Pardot is implemented directly within the Salesforce platform, serving as an extra layer that connects to the CRM database for leads, contacts, and salespeople. This enables salespeople to manage email communications effectively. Pardot is part of the Salesforce package and cannot be purchased separately; it is an integrated layer that works with Salesforce CRM.
What is most valuable?
Pardot directly integrates with CRM, specifically Salesforce, which has an excellent R&D team. They are heavily investing in data cloud and AI. Pardot's analytics are superior to many other platforms. While I may not know all the details about data configuration, Pardot simplifies the process of identifying leads and contacts who have shown interest. You don't need to run reports manually; Pardot creates beautiful dashboards with its built-in AI, called iStream AI, which provides comprehensive insights.
For example, if you want to email your subscribers, Pardot includes a send-time optimization feature. This feature is available in both Salesforce marketing tools and Pardot. It analyzes subscribers' behavior to determine the best time to send emails. For instance, if I typically open emails at 9 AM, Pardot will send me emails in the morning. The send time will be adjusted accordingly if you usually check your emails in the evening. Based on historical click and open metrics, Pardot's AI and machine learning will determine the optimal send time for each user.
What needs improvement?
Pardot needs many improvements in terms of email design and design studio functionalities. It lacks a robust design studio, limiting our ability to perform various design activities efficiently. You don't need to write any HTML code, but designing a banner for a website involves creating a landing page within Pardot. The platform's drag-and-drop features are not as advanced as those in other marketing platforms like Marketo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, or Eloqua.
Pardot's landing page and form-building features are pretty basic, requiring web developers or skilled users to build elements from scratch and perform extensive testing using tools like Litmus before deployment. This is a significant drawback of the platform. Additionally, Pardot's integration with third-party applications is limited because it operates on top of CRM systems. However, data integration between Pardot and CRM is seamless, reducing the need to worry about data errors once the configuration is complete.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Pardot for six weeks.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Pardot is a stable product because it's built on a robust foundation. Salesforce CRM is known for its stability and strong integration capabilities with other platforms. Salesforce can have bugs like any complex software. Some users believe these bugs persist intentionally to drive demand for support services and additional features. Pardot is reliable but has fewer issues than other platforms because it operates on a solid underlying structure provided by Salesforce.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup takes six months to complete. They have migrated from different platforms. We started everything from scratch for some time, which set us back. Once the platform is built, we have to handle many tasks. However, this platform is here for the long run, so we must ensure it won't fail midway. We took almost a year to deploy as it depends on the amount of data and the type of assets we have on the platform or need to build.
What was our ROI?
While Pardot is a good platform for businesses heavily reliant on sales and conversions, it can be limiting compared to multi-purpose platforms. If you need a platform that offers functionalities beyond B2B marketing, like home-based management or B2C options, then Pardot might not be the best fit.
To maximize ROI across various business sizes, consider ActiveCampaign for its top-rated email marketing features. Regarding CRM, Salesforce remains the enterprise-level leader. HubSpot is another strong contender, and even Google recognizes its value.
The increasing importance of CRM and marketing automation platforms suggests these specialized tools can offer a better ROI than broader solutions like Pardot. While Pardot has its place, Marketo might be a better choice for some businesses based on potential return on investment. Finally, avoid Palantir for marketing automation based on user feedback.
What other advice do I have?
While Pardot offers marketing automation capabilities, its built-in analytics features are limited compared to other platforms. Workflows can be automated within Pardot, but integrating with Salesforce Marketing Cloud is recommended for more advanced functionalities. Within the Salesforce ecosystem, Salesforce Marketing Cloud offers a broader range of automation features. For example, it allows SMS and WhatsApp messages to be sent alongside emails within automation, leads can be converted to contacts and opportunities, emails can be sent based on form submissions, and algorithms can be leveraged for targeted marketing. Pardot's analytics capabilities are essential. Other marketing automation platforms like Marketo and Eloqua have more robust built-in analytics and often integrate directly with other analytics tools. Eloqua, now part of Oracle, boasts advanced business intelligence features.
Pardot is more than just email marketing. It's a marketing automation platform that also includes features for data management. This can be a good option for companies with limited resources, like five to ten people.
An example of the Mayo Clinic can use Pardot to create healthcare sessions. Everyone can have a different email address, but all can be tagged under one account. This allows for targeted communication on an account and individual level. One-to-many communication and B2B marketing are more effective for targeting other businesses.
While Pardot is a user-friendly platform, it's important to note that it's not limited to email or marketing communications. Unlike some marketing automation tools, Pardot relies on a CRM system for optimal functionality. If your company doesn't already have a CRM, it might be more cost-effective to consider a bundled package that includes Pardot and a CRM solution.
Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.
