Our use case for Symantec Web Application Firewall is primarily for security purposes as we develop web application solutions for our customers. We have a business where we provide solutions for creating web applications, and we use this firewall to secure access, especially if we have to set it up in their own environment. We set up this firewall first, then do all the onboarding and deployment processes. We are using it primarily as a firewall for security purposes.

Symantec Web Application Firewall has helped our organization in managing threat activities by providing insights from the dashboard that are really helpful, such as how many malicious attacks it has blocked and what kind of traffic we are seeing, including unauthorized access traffic. Since we have multiple web applications deployed and currently have five projects running on it, all that data is invaluable.

The best feature of Symantec Web Application Firewall is that it is very easy to use, and the deployment and implementation processes are really easy. It also covers all the OWASP security measures for any web application, which makes it very handy for us to implement and deploy.

The integration of Symantec Web Application Firewall with our existing infrastructure is really easy to implement and very user-friendly, which has positively affected our security posture. After using different solutions earlier, the ease of deployment has reduced our implementation efforts and the testing of the firewall and security checks we do before deployment, making it quite handy.

Although I don't know much about machine learning since we haven't explored that area yet, I've noticed that after implementing Symantec Web Application Firewall, clients are happy with the performance and security measures it provides. We have seen improvements in client appreciation and reductions in data breaches and malicious software attacks that were happening earlier.

With Symantec Web Application Firewall, improvements include easy implementation of solutions since we previously took more time with other software for deployment. The deployment process has been really easy, and it is easier for us to convince our customers concerning data security and access authorization. As an organization, we have also increased our revenue by implementing these kinds of solutions.

Regarding areas for improvement in Symantec Web Application Firewall, I think they can enhance the features they currently focus on, as there are various types of web applications, and it would be great if they could develop features to cater to all these types. For example, a feature to scan for unauthorized plugins or extensions could let us know if those extensions are authorized, unauthorized, or malicious.

There's room for improvement in Symantec Web Application Firewall by introducing AI into their dashboard so that we can query the dashboard and fetch data insights, similar to querying ChatGPT for answers. They currently have this feature but can make improvements for better querying to get insights.

We have been using Symantec Web Application Firewall for the last year or so.

The support we received from those alternatives was not great, but with Symantec, the support is good with good response times. If I were to rate it out of 10, I would give it an 8.5 or 9.

Within our organization, we have a team of five people working with the solution.

We have seen a return on investment of around anywhere between 20 to 30%.

We have tested McAfee and Quick Heal as other firewall solutions before Symantec Web Application Firewall.

I would recommend Symantec Web Application Firewall to other users due to all the benefits I mentioned earlier, such as ease of use, ease of implementation, good technical support, and compared to other tools available in the market, it is more robust, stable, and scalable. My overall rating for this solution is nine out of ten.

We have multiple applications that we wanted to ensure were protected and we chose Symantec for that. I'm the head of IT infrastructure and we are partners with Symantec. 

Symantec has specifically helped connect external users to our internal network. It has also enabled us to ensure that those who have permission get access to our systems. It gives us peace of mind. 

I like that Symantec has an up-to-date data repository to deal with external threats. It provides us with a sense of security. 

One of our issues is that sometimes scanning slows down the endpoints. The outcome of that is that we have to disable Symantec end users, troubleshoot, and then reconnect. I also believe that from the Indian market perspective, the cost of this product is an issue. 

I've been using this solution for eight years. 

We have a limited type of user so scalability is not so relevant and it's difficult to quantify. We have 1,500 internal users but I have no idea how many external users we have. 

Our experience with technical support has been very good. 

The initial setup is very straightforward.

Pricing in India will be always on the higher side, but what price do you put on security? 

I rate this product a 10 out of 10. 

The clients turned our view on a few aspects. I believe that solutions have changed over the last few years and I think the value proposition has changed quite a bit. I don't really know. I see the value in the proxy for many things, and I feel that web proxy is not the way to go necessarily, in the future.

I would say that the whole Web Security Gateway can be better. I feel that it controls the endpoint. But I am not sure if any improvement is necessary on the actual Web Security Gateway installed, which is meant to be beneficial, because maybe the problem lies at our endpoint.

We don't use Symantec Web Application Firewall internally for our own company, we only provide the service to other clients.

Our clients had a few technical issues, which were resolved. But the technical support wasn't great. 

The setup was straightforward, but I would say the deployment timeline as indicated, was rather complex.

On a scale from one to 10, I would give it a five. I'm not convinced that it's necessarily the best solution going forward in the future. The technical support could be better, and the initial setup and deployment could be more straightforward. 

The performance is ok and overall, I'm really pleased.

The interface is user-friendly.

There are a lot of features in this product.

The dashboard is dependent on Java so you need to have it installed. If there are different versions of Java then it can cause problems. It would be an improvement if the management dashboards were not reliant upon Java.

I have been using Symantec WAF for the past year, although it was in the company before that.

This solution is very stable and we haven't experienced any crashes.

Symantec WAF is a scalable solution, although we do not have requirements for scalability. It is possible to just add a box and add capacity, as needed.

The initial setup is not complex for a network specialist.

This product is doing what it should and what we are expecting from it. This solution is perfect for what we are using it for.
