The reporting tools are what I gain the most benefit from. Reports are allowed to be edited for aesthetic purposes, which is lacking in a lot of other dashboard tools. The "processes" portion of Adaptive is also pretty nifty, allowing for you to set up a task list for others so they can put in their forecasts on-time.

Reports are allowed to be edited for aesthetic purposes
Pros and Cons
- "Reports are allowed to be edited for aesthetic purposes, which is lacking in a lot of other dashboard tools."
- "The upload feature exists, but isn't terribly useful."
What is most valuable?
How has it helped my organization?
- Standardized monthly reporting
- Quick and easy for ad hoc requests
- Interfaces with other data warehouses
What needs improvement?
The planning functionalities are the weakest part of Adaptive Insights. Everything that is automatic is done by formulas and there is only so much logic which you can build within these formulas. The upload feature exists, but isn't terribly useful.
For how long have I used the solution?
Personally, seven months.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
I wasn't around for the initial phases.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We had an issue where our reports weren't refreshing because our daily data pull was stuck in limbo. We called customer support and they were able to fix it within a couple hours.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
None.
How are customer service and support?
Customer Service:
Great, we have our own personal contact that we reach out to if we have questions.
Technical Support:Great, no issues so far.

No.

I wasn't around for the initial deployment.
What was our ROI?

Not sure.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
Manager, Budget & Finance at a non-profit with 201-500 employees
By refreshing reports and pages automatically, it creates the monthly report package with little to no manual staff work
Pros and Cons
- "The integration with our payroll system to complete staff modeling during our budget and forecast processes."
- "Being able to drill down when using OfficeConnect needs work."
What is most valuable?
- The integration with our payroll system to complete staff modeling during our budget and forecast processes.
- The ease of creating reports and modifying sheets.
How has it helped my organization?
Our organization is able to use Adaptive to complete a major majority of our monthly management and quarterly Board reports. By refreshing reports and pages automatically, it creates the monthly report package with little to no manual staff work. This process was very manual with our old system. Adaptive gives our users the flexibility to budget at either the Natural Account or line item level.
What needs improvement?
Being able to drill down when using OfficeConnect.
For how long have I used the solution?
One year.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
No.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No.

What about the implementation team?
We had a vendor implementation and I would rate them an eight.
What was our ROI?
Two years.

Investments and Treasury Manager at a financial services firm with 501-1,000 employees
It's a source of truth for all of our budget and forecast versions
Pros and Cons
- "The biggest feature is the source of truth for all of our budget and forecast versions."
- "Users continue to become more advanced and are looking for more advanced solutions."
What is most valuable?
Adaptive has so many features that make it superior to using spreadsheets and other planning software packages.
- The biggest feature is the source of truth for all of our budget and forecast versions.
- The second feature is reporting. Since it stores both forecasts and actuals, it can be used as the source to generate answers to almost any business related questions.
- The third feature that makes Adaptive great is it's all in the Cloud, so you can access and update anytime from anywhere.
How has it helped my organization?
Budgets and forecasts used to be done in spreadsheets. This causes version control issues as well as broken links when files are moved. Also, if you want to change your reporting structure in spreadsheets it is all done manually. By moving to Adaptive, all of these issues are resolved and actuals, budgets, and forecasts are all merged seamlessly into one planning system.
What needs improvement?
Adaptive has come a long way each year and continues to improve. Users continue to become more advanced and are looking for more advanced solutions. Adaptive does a good job keeping up with these ever changing improvements.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used this solution for over five years and at two different companies.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Deployment of Adaptive software relies on the quality of the implementation. Sometimes, it is done by Adaptive staff and other times by consultants or internal employees. As long as the implementation is not rushed and set up for fluidity it can last for years. When large changes are made to a company the Adaptive models sometimes needs to be revised or rebuilt. Our company has had a lot of changes since its initial deployment and our models have been revised several times. Adaptive was able to handle all of these changes.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Never.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Never.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Very good. The only issue we've had with customer service is it used to be through NetSuite (that is where we purchased it). NetSuite was often difficult to get answers from (needed to fill out lots of forms and wait). Our service is now back at Adaptive and is much better.
Technical Support:There are lots of webinars, training sessions, and an annual conference which are great for learning technical skills to master Adaptive. If you run into a problem you can't solve, sometimes Adaptive can solve it, and sometimes an external consultant needs to step in (for bigger issues). The software itself has never needed technical support. The only support that is needed is usually how to program Adaptive to do what you want.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously used spreadsheets. Switched to provide a much better, complex, and easier to manage planning and reporting solution.
How was the initial setup?
It is both straightforward and complex. Setting up personnel, revenue, and capital models can be complex, but the solution overall is very straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
We used a vendor team. They were very competent and gave us solutions that we wouldn't have come up with on our own.
What was our ROI?
It has to be in the 1000s of percent.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Everything is negotiable, but this solution is low cost compared to others.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I was not involved in the other evaluations.
What other advice do I have?
This solution transformed the way both of my companies did reporting. We can now do in a few hours what used to take days or weeks.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
I agree with you regarding implementation. You really have to think everything through and take your time, during the initial set-up.

We are now an organization that looks forwards instead of backwards at financials
Pros and Cons
- "We utilize planning on a daily basis, therefore we find it to be the most valuable product for our organization."
- "We tried Discovery and OfficeConnect at one point and found them too cumbersome, at the time."
What is most valuable?
We utilize planning on a daily basis, therefore we find it to be the most valuable product for our organization. We also use the integration feature to import actuals from our accounting system.
How has it helped my organization?
We have gone from an organization that looked backwards at financials and had a one-time annual budget to an organization that looks forward, has rolling forecasts, long-term planning, metrics, and push button reporting.
What needs improvement?
We tried Discovery and OfficeConnect at one point and found them too cumbersome, at the time. There have been improvements to both and we may try them again.
For how long have I used the solution?
Four years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
We had some initial implementation issues and did a re-implementation. However, I feel most company's implementations go much more smoothly now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is much harder to "break" than Excel for financial reporting purposes. It also has great version control. So, no issues with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Being a non-profit and education-based organization, we had to modify our instances quite a bit to fit what we needed. It took a lot of time and effort, but in the end, was so worth it.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Customer service is great. Adaptive does a great job communicating with their customers and helping, when needed.
Technical Support:Most cases from technical support have been resolved quickly.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Just Excel for financial reporting. We switched because it is clunky, breakable, and our versioning was problematic.
How was the initial setup?
Ours was pretty complex, because our organization has a non-traditional accounting structure.
What about the implementation team?
We initially implemented through Adaptive, then used a vendor team. They were amazing.

Management Reporting Analyst (Senior Level) - previsouly Analyst, Financial Reporting at a maritime company with 1,001-5,000 employees
We can quickly get the big picture after multiple changes to different departments and account codes
Pros and Cons
- "Changes to corporate structure, account codes are updated in all versions including prior years, hence "one-version of truth" as claimed."
- "Discovery (the data visualization module): Needs to catch up with BI leaders, such as MS and Tableau. E.g., sorting by amounts in column charts and page slicers to control all visuals."
What is most valuable?
Winning points:
- Instant consolidation of multiple BUs
- User access control
- Changes to corporate structure, account codes are updated in all versions including prior years, hence "one-version of truth" as claimed.
- Integrated reporting with MS Office
How has it helped my organization?
By using Adaptive Planning (AP), we can quickly get the big picture after multiple changes to different departments and account codes.
What needs improvement?
Still room for improvement:
- Discovery (the data visualization module): Needs to catch up with BI leaders, such as MS and Tableau. E.g., sorting by amounts in column charts and page slicers to control all visuals.
- Planning: two areas.
- Need to have the function of importing formulas, which has been encouraged for more than five years by the author, but still lacking.
- Modeled sheet has some limitations. It is not version specific, meaning upgrading formulas for the new year budgeting will leave unintended retroactive impact on prior years' budgets. Same with dimensions. I would love to have them be version specific rather than keeping changing.
For how long have I used the solution?
Over five years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Nothing substantial.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's 99% stable. Occasionally lagging, e.g., during creating a cloned level.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
No.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
Best customer service seen. Responsive within 24 hours, mostly within two hours. Issues usually fixed within one to two days. Staff very courteous and helpful.
Technical Support:High level. If the issue is outside their domain, it will be escalated to the engineers to fix.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Were using Excel before the switch, as it was nearly impossible to consolidate over 100 Excel files, each for one business unit. It took over two hours to consolidate, versus one minute in Adaptive.
How was the initial setup?
Most module are straightforward. Others are complex due to the nature of our business, such as multi-dimensional cube sheets. Modeled sheets, with their limitations as cited above, needs special treatment.
What about the implementation team?
Both. We have in-house staff implementing AP, with the mentoring from a vendor specialist, who was very knowledgeable and helpful.
What was our ROI?
Not sure dollar-wise. But Adaptive saves us huge hours in budgeting. e.g., for each roll-up, it saves us two hours at least, and we usually have more than 20 roll-ups.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing seems to be worth the cost considering the efficiency Adaptive brings.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes. Among others, we evaluated the planning module of Insight Reporting, but decided to adopt Adaptive.
What other advice do I have?
Seek best advise and plan early rather than later during the initial phase of implementation. It would be costly to make significant changes at a later phase.

What is most valuable?
Planning, reporting, and the ability to pull in transactional information for reporting.

I have been a user since we implemented Adaptive Insights in August, 2014. The reporting tool is more robust than our accounting software. The reporting tool greatly increases my ability to analyze budgets from year to year, rolling forecasts, monthly/YTD variances, etc. To go a step further, when used with Office Connect, the possibilities in reporting are endless.
