Most of my clients use them for indoor Wi-Fi access, but I also have some experience with outdoor deployments and public-facing setups. We've also worked with Cisco Meraki for similar scenarios.

Easy to set up, stable and you don't have to pay for the cloud solution
Pros and Cons
- "It's really easy to set up. And, you don't have to pay for the cloud solution. That's really interesting for our clients. And the other thing is, the roaming is also quite good."
- "When there are a lot of people connected, especially during video streaming demonstrations, the connection can get a bit choppy."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
It's really easy to set up. And, you don't have to pay for the cloud solution. That's really interesting for our clients. And the other thing is, the roaming is also quite good.
And I personally like the setup process. It's incredibly easy, even without a router. You can directly connect to an ISP, which is a big plus for small businesses. For larger companies, using a firewall is still preferred. Setting up the SSID was a breeze, too.
What needs improvement?
When there are a lot of people connected, especially during video streaming demonstrations, the connection can get a bit choppy. We've also encountered some issues with narrowcasting systems.
For how long have I used the solution?
I do have some experience with Aruba Instant On Acess Points. It's quite user-friendly.
I have been working with this product for four years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I would rate the stability a nine out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate the scalability a nine out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I also have outdoor appliances and uses for outdoor access points. It's mostly Wi-Fi access points indoors, but few are outdoor. Few of them are public-facing experts. We have some experience with Cisco Meraki and Fortinet.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is truly straightforward.
The solution can be deployed both on-premises and cloud. I prefer cloud deployments for the management advantages.
What about the implementation team?
The deployment time depends on the company size. For smaller setups with 20-40 workstations, it takes about 2-3 hours.
Larger ones might take a day with pre-configured access points. But it's still very quick, and we've even had a small client done in just one hour.
What was our ROI?
The lack of subscription fees and ease of setup contribute significantly to the value proposition. We're still evaluating Ruckus to compare, but so far, Aruba Instant On seems to offer a good return on investment.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We don't have to pay subscription fees for the cloud solution, which is a major advantage.
I would rate the pricing an eight out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Outstanding reliability and seamless connectivity well-suited for small and medium-sized enterprises
Pros and Cons
- "With a variety of switches in their setup, they find that Aruba's online monitoring tools and configuration options for applications effectively manage most of their requirements, all while keeping the process straightforward and user-friendly."
- "The limited functionality of the mobile app restricts its use primarily to small and medium-sized setups, making it less suitable for enterprise-level solutions."
What is our primary use case?
It is well-suited for small and medium-sized enterprises or departments.
What is most valuable?
My clients appreciate how Aruba seamlessly integrates their switches with their phones. With a variety of switches in their setup, they find that Aruba's online monitoring tools and configuration options for applications effectively manage most of their requirements, all while keeping the process straightforward and user-friendly.
What needs improvement?
We are looking for an update such as a firewall that consolidates and streamlines the management of multiple elements into a single, simplified interface. It would provide a unified view of our network, covering switches, phones, and financial transactions. The convenience of controlling everything from your mobile device is a notable advantage, but it's important to note that some advanced features are not available through the mobile application. For more complex network setups, such as data centers, or for greater capabilities and options, you might need to consider other solutions like Cisco or Aruba switches. The limited functionality of the mobile app restricts its use primarily to small and medium-sized setups, making it less suitable for enterprise-level solutions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with it for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We did not have any issues with it. I would rate its stability capabilities ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is quite efficient, allowing you to handle around seven or eight devices.
How are customer service and support?
We did not have the need to contact customer support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we used UniFi, but we switched to Aruba because UniFi required a controller on mobile devices for managing the network. Once the controller was set up, troubleshooting or making changes became challenging. This issue prompted us to make the switch to Aruba, as it provides a more straightforward solution in our area. Aruba devices automatically connect and function without the need for complex controls.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy and it only involves creating an account.
What about the implementation team?
Deployment is swift, typically taking only six to fifteen minutes for a solution designed for office use. This efficiency is due to the fact that everything operates through the mobile application.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate it eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

What about the implementation team?
We implemented it through a vendor team.

Flexible, reliable, and has failover capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "The initial setup is very simple."
- "It's only suitable for smaller offices. It doesn't scale well."
What is our primary use case?
It's a wireless WAN solution.
What is most valuable?
The Virtual Controller feature is great.
It is a flexible solution. You do not have to purchase a separate wireless controller. You can use, for example, only the access point.
The initial setup is very simple.
It's stable and reliable.
We really like that the solution offers the ability to do a cluster. One AP can act as a master controller. If that AP goes down, another in the cluster can take over. It allows for an effective failover scenario.
What needs improvement?
We've had some small issues with stability in terms of replacing the real controller.
It's only suitable for smaller offices. It doesn't scale well.
They could be more flexible with pricing and lower costs.
It would be ideal if they could reduce the time to failover.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for maybe two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is great. I would rate it eight out of ten in terms of reliability. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is not a very scalable product. It's great for small offices, not big organizations.
We have maybe 300 users at this time.
How are customer service and support?
We've never dealt with Aruba technical support yet.
How was the initial setup?
It's easy to set up and implement. It's not overly complex.
We have two or three admins that can assist with any deployment or maintenance tasks. One admin can easily manage 16 APs for 300 users.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The cost of the solution can be a bit high. There are options from China that you can get for a lower cost. I'd rate the affordability a two out of five.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We've compared the solution to Cisco Meraki.
What other advice do I have?
We're partners with Aruba and HP.
I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. We've been happy with the overall capabilities.

Network and Security Engineer at a comms service provider with 1,001-5,000 employees
Easy to manage, highly reliable, and flexible for small environments
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature of Aruba Instant On Access Points is they are easy to manage."
- "It is scalable to a certain degree but not nearly as scalable and robust as your enterprise-grade solutions."
What is our primary use case?
Aruba Instant On Access Points is used to access a network.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Aruba Instant On Access Points is they are easy to manage.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Aruba Instant On Access Points within the last 12 months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Aruba Instant On Access Points is stable. It's using the same radio elements of Omni antennas that most of the enterprise-grade solutions are using, but the intelligence is a little less.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Aruba Instant On Access Points is suitable for small to medium-sized businesses.
It is scalable to a certain degree but not nearly as scalable and robust as your enterprise-grade solutions.
If your initiative is WiFi first or if you have a WiFi first initiative, wouldn't use this solution. I'd choose the tumultuous enterprise-grade solutions.
How was the initial setup?
The implementation of the Aruba Instant On Access Points is simple and flexible for smaller environments.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price of Aruba Instant On Access Points is reasonable. They are competitively priced. I've even used it in my home at one time because of the low price.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to others looking to purchase Aruba Instant On Access Points is it does not matter what access point you purchase. Most of them are within the specifications and the standards of the IEEE nowadays. Look at your infrastructure first. Make sure layer one of your infrastructure, is in good shape because if not, you can buy a $10,000.00 access point and it's not going to do anything for you. If you don't have sufficient infrastructure with the correct bandwidth and your backend support from your routers and switches. If they're not robust, then spending good money on a robust wireless solution is worthless.
I rate Aruba Instant On Access Points a seven out of ten.
