Good backup solution but challenges with the stability
It is recommended that people know what they are starting with. A part of our challenge was we bought and needed to implement it. So by the time we went to implement it, we were running into support issues. Also, make a market comparison to ensure that the product you choose is what you want to end up with. I would give it a six out of ten because restoring from a backup takes longer than usual. It should happen in a matter of hours, not a matter of days. We are yet to have an experience when trying to restore from Acronis that we haven't had to wait at least a couple of days for our server to be available for testing or working.

A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The main reason we went with Acronis Cyber Protect is because it provides a virtual machine backup feature."
"It is a very stable solution."
"One of its most valuable aspects is its user-friendly interface."
"Acronis is a flexible solution. It can back up workstations, endpoints, and even your virtual environments and cloud-based environments. So, we can do the backup of the whole gamut of products."
"The best thing about it is that we can back up pretty much everything we want to. We don't have to have multiple solutions. It can back up any physical or virtual server, including servers in Azure. It can back up SharePoint, OneDrive, and G Suite. Everything we need to back up can be backed up, and that's why we like it."
"Our customers can backup to local storage and they can back up or replicate to the cloud."
"I have not used other backup solutions to compare how well the features work but I have found Acronis Backup to be user-friendly, overall easy to use, and performance is good."
"The most valuable feature is the fact that you can archive backups quite easily and minimize the amount of space you're using."
"The VM portal and the CloudCatalyst are two of the solution's most valuable features."
"The documentation is good."
"This is a product that has been on the market for a while and they have mastered the backup process, especially when backing up to tape, for most environments."
"Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work."
"The reliability is valuable, especially for the appliance solution."
"Its most valuable features are flexibility and reliability."
"The most valuable feature of Veritas NetBackup is the protection policies or protection module."
"It saves time for the backup needs of our organization."

Cons

"We have issues with the SQL databases which are a little shaky."
"We would always support better pricing."
"The support takes too much time to respond to callbacks. Calls are often scheduled around four to five PM and tend to occur with a two-hour delay each time."
"Improved support for immutability and Utility AirGAP could be beneficial."
"I believe that the next release should be easier to configure as this one is difficult to configure even the easiest of tasks."
"In the span of six months, maintenance is done at least twice and you are told that it is coming up, with apologies for the inconvenience. It's a distraction, and it interferes with the backup schedule."
"There are some limitations to the backup."
"This is not a feature-rich solution."
"The ability to use different disk appliance brands as Pure Disk (not OST), such as EMC Data Domain ."
"NetBackup is a very old product, and it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly."
"They currently have the Java concept and it should be less intensive and take less load."
"It is a very expensive solution. They should have a different scheme for selling it. They should also make it easy for us to switch from Solaris to Linux. We are having some trouble in migrating our actual catalog from Solaris to Linux."
"Planning for the implementation takes a lot of time."
"Licensing costs are quite high."
"The product needs to improve its GUI. It needs to make use of a web interface."
"Updates were not always consistent."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When it comes to elements like cost, I think it is the only backup solution which has perpetual licenses, whereby you buy the license once and for all."
"The tool is cheap compared to other products."
"Pricing is what it is. I don't shop around once I find a good solution. I insist they maintain ongoing support year after year for updates and tech support."
"We were on a perpetual license for Acronis Backup."
"I would say that at the pricepoint that it's at, it's definitely worth the money."
"We have a Cyber Cloud backup license and we have on-premises storage. Both can be useful for our customers."
"Its price is quite friendly on the pocket. You need to pay the licensing cost upfront, and then the support charges are on an annual basis."
"If the solution was less expensive it would be better."
"In terms of cost, it's not very good."
"The licensing model for this solution is very powerful."
"If you have a source size of one terabyte then they will charge for a one terabyte license, although what is actually being stored is much less."
"Our license is capacity-based."
"Acceptable if you need to implement it for larger environments, e.g. over 1000 clients. For smaller setups it might be too expensive."
"The pricing, of course, can always be better."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."
"There is a license required for this solution and it is priced based upon the data used."

Hi Shashi,NetBackup is an enterprise tool and Acronis is for private/small companies (in my opinion). If you have a plan for ~150 servers then Acronis is a NO WAY for you (only if you have the time to prepare snapshots for each individual system one by one). KR, Jago

Technically NetBackup is a more reliable and comprehensive product as compare to Acronis. NetBackup has integration with all major business products like MS SQL Server, MS Exchange Server, IBM, SAP, HANNA, Share point and Active Directory. You can backup and restore full VM in NetBackup as well as BMR too for P2V. Acronis has limited features in comparison with Netbackup. Netbackup is a vast product. If you need any assistance you may drop a few lines and I will help you out.

I think it's not possible to compare "enterprise backup tools" (NetBackup) with simple "imaging tools" :)
