Customization supports complex needs, though speed challenges persist
We don't use the reporting tools from Adobe Commerce as we have our own reporting infrastructure. Adobe Commerce can be complex in terms of ease of use, as it's such a large platform. From the development side, you can customize everything, but that does require substantial resources. When working on Adobe Commerce, I would want Adobe Commerce specialist developers. Although it's all built in PHP, and there are many PHP developers, I would want Adobe Commerce specialist developers working on it because they have knowledge about what to customize and more importantly, what's best not to touch. There are always site speed issues with Adobe Commerce. It seems to be an ongoing issue with performance. When comparing it to Shopify, you don't tend to need to worry about that, but with Adobe Commerce, it remains an ongoing issue. Additionally, there are all the upgrades, which can be quite painful, including the regular patches, both on the open-source and licensed version, on-premises. The initial setup for migrating to Adobe Commerce from another e-commerce platform is not straightforward; it's a very big job. The pricing for Adobe Commerce varies dramatically. Quite often, you see their list prices and then you are able to negotiate very hefty discounts. My understanding is that they're moving away from heavily discounting. Although our license where I am at the moment is heavily discounted, I'm hearing that they're trying to move away from that practice.

Connecting web sales with existing operations has improved, but layout and integration need work
The most valuable features in Shopify are the ease of integration. The downside is that the layout is not adaptable as someone would expect. For some customers, Shopify is not a viable option because it is not adaptable enough. Adaptability is mostly related to the layout and specific things related to the business branch. I have not been a partner or reseller of Shopify. I belong to a company that delivers architects who help customers find the best product and support them in implementation. In many cases, it is not only software that needs to be installed; organizations also need to adapt. For instance, if you really want to sell through the web, you need to be capable of setting up an organization to deliver products the next day or faster. Many organizations are not capable of doing this, so they need to change procedures in their warehouses and sales operations. It is not only about the software.

Pros

"Magento has changed over the years, but one of the most interesting aspects is that it gets the job done, and a vast community of experts is knowledgeable about the solution."
"Not only can they build a system at a cheap price, but they can get it live very quickly."
"Magento is very user friendly due to its various functionalities like one page checkout, comparison between products and also gives liberty to users to share the reviews on purchased products."
"The product can be maintained effortlessly."
"Magento is generally considered to be the most advanced e-commerce program available in the market."
"Integrated Payment Gateway International Payment Ready Cash On Delivery and Bank Deposit Email Notifications Integrated Social Media Product Presentation Verify Orders Easy Navigation Personalized Shopping Experience 3rd Party Extensions Showcase your products Advanced Sort and Search Simple Check-out process Secure Shopping SEO Optimized Enable/Disable Products Multiple Stores"
"The platform provides an easy way to customize its features."
"Magento provides a strong backing, meaning it can handle the order processing, customer management, configuration, third party payment integration, and shipping matters. There is a standard, very well set up architecture already present in Magento that helps them set up their online shops with much precision. Clients can see their reports, their daily sales, their best selling products, and their best buying customers so that they can target them through mails or just follow up with them. These are the main default features which make Magento so attractive."
"Unless your needs are quite complex, this is the most affordable and immediate solution to taking your online business live without developer help."
"The most valuable feature of Shopify is its ease of use, as I do not need to integrate different services from different platforms, because Shopify makes it easier to have everything on one platform."
"Shopify is the best eCommerce platform on the market today."
"Shopify provides an easy to use service at the backend that includes product upload, customer service, team settings, and team customization."
"The most valuable features in Shopify are the ease of integration."
"For the initial setup phase, many online tutorials are available, making the process easy."
"My advice for anybody who is considering Shopify is not to hesitate."
"The most valuable feature is its strong SEO capabilities."

Cons

"Should have a way to communicate properly with the team that builds the platform"
"The data analysis could be improved. The data that you receive whenever you go into the backend of the platform for the analysis is very simple and basic, it could be a little more sophisticated in order to be closer to the client. The data analysis and intelligence of the platform could be better."
"The performance is a bottleneck in Magento and there is a lot of room for improvement in this regard."
"The analytics are good but there is room for improvement. There are some limitations due to new regulations causing customer data time delays."
"It would be great to have a way to communicate properly with the team that builds the platform because you can get stuck at certain points, and it's hard to search for solutions on forums and tutorials."
"The hardware requirements of the tool should be made better, as it is a solution that is very heavy on the servers, and it makes it expensive to host many servers."
"Magento 2 is only three to four years old, so it is an evolving technology. In certain areas on the front there were some glitches. For example, you can't do certain kinds of filters on data and you have certain speed issues on category pages due to the way it was written within Magento. Those were a few minor tweaks where we, as a community, found that to be a necessary scope of improvement. But I think they are working on it and hopefully they can solve these issues earlier than later."
"Elasticsearch has really been a pain; it takes a toll on the performance, and starting with version 2.4, Magento requires Elasticsearch, which has been causing a lot of serious performance issues."
"For some customers, Shopify is not a viable option because it is not adaptable enough."
"I have many clients that want to sell their products to the wholesale market, and Shopify currently does not have that kind of feature."
"Many of our clients complain because Shopify is costly and not an open-source."
"There are some areas where improvements could be made. Currently, the platform only supports three product variants, and having the option for more variants would be beneficial. Additionally, we have to rely on external plugins for reviews and ratings, which could be more convenient if they were built-in."
"Shopify users pay a higher commission as they scale."
"I would like to see a feature that allows us to access all of the platforms in Shopify, like Facebook and Instagram messages, so we can easily reply to connect to our customers."
"The order processing and saving of the changes for the product should have automatic functioning."
"If you consider an enterprise-level application with a lot of customization, Shopify can be problematic to use."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost of implementation is cheap compared to other solutions."
"The price of the solution increased after Adobe acquired Magento. At this point, we know the price of Magento and SAP, and while they may have lower entry tickets, they are ultimately comparable."
"We transitioned from the platform's commercial license to the open-source version, which helped optimize costs without affecting our sales."
"This solution is cheaper than some of its competitors. However, the price depends on which country you are in. In some countries, such as Greece or some Southeastern European countries, the price for the client can be expensive."
"The product offers an open-source version, which is free. There are licensing options for Adobe Commerce's cloud version."
"Many implementations were open-source. We also had a couple of enterprise-level implementations, but I didn't have visibility on the licensing cost."
"This is the only platform to enforce its own transaction fee unless you use Shopify Payments Content, which doesn’t automatically reformat when you switch themes."
"The pricing of the solution is economical. The enterprise version is more expensive, however, we do not use it. We pay for the license on a monthly basis and there are payment gateway charges associated with transactions, typically around two percent or as applicable."
"The tool's pricing depends on how big your online store is."
"They have various plans including ones that are priced at $29 per month, $79 per month, and can go up to $300 per month."
"Depending on the client's requirements, they can choose either the basic plan or the premium plan."
