Customization supports complex needs, though speed challenges persist
We don't use the reporting tools from Adobe Commerce as we have our own reporting infrastructure. Adobe Commerce can be complex in terms of ease of use, as it's such a large platform. From the development side, you can customize everything, but that does require substantial resources. When working on Adobe Commerce, I would want Adobe Commerce specialist developers. Although it's all built in PHP, and there are many PHP developers, I would want Adobe Commerce specialist developers working on it because they have knowledge about what to customize and more importantly, what's best not to touch. There are always site speed issues with Adobe Commerce. It seems to be an ongoing issue with performance. When comparing it to Shopify, you don't tend to need to worry about that, but with Adobe Commerce, it remains an ongoing issue. Additionally, there are all the upgrades, which can be quite painful, including the regular patches, both on the open-source and licensed version, on-premises. The initial setup for migrating to Adobe Commerce from another e-commerce platform is not straightforward; it's a very big job. The pricing for Adobe Commerce varies dramatically. Quite often, you see their list prices and then you are able to negotiate very hefty discounts. My understanding is that they're moving away from heavily discounting. Although our license where I am at the moment is heavily discounted, I'm hearing that they're trying to move away from that practice.

Improving User Experience with Effective Platform Integration
Based on my experience with SAP Commerce Cloud, I have thoughts regarding data analysis and analytics; I know they have this feature because I've never seen it. When I ask my colleagues about data, they say they don't have it, so I may need to inform them that SAP Commerce Cloud has such a feature because they never have data about the e-commerce currently. The multi-languages and multi-currency features in SAP Commerce Cloud are useful for us because we have it cross-country, with an e-commerce presence in the US and another in Europe. Based on my experience, working with SAP Commerce Cloud can be a bit complex, considering what my colleagues say, but I haven't had direct experience with this. I rate SAP Commerce Cloud five out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Now with the website, all of their offline orders have been converted into the store business and their sales are improving 60% year on year and now they are one of the premium brands selling gym equipment across Australia."
"Magento provides a strong backing, meaning it can handle the order processing, customer management, configuration, third party payment integration, and shipping matters. There is a standard, very well set up architecture already present in Magento that helps them set up their online shops with much precision. Clients can see their reports, their daily sales, their best selling products, and their best buying customers so that they can target them through mails or just follow up with them. These are the main default features which make Magento so attractive."
"Magento is very flexible, and it's one of the biggest e-commerce platforms."
"Magento has changed over the years, but one of the most interesting aspects is that it gets the job done, and a vast community of experts is knowledgeable about the solution."
"Magento is generally considered to be the most advanced e-commerce program available in the market."
"The open-source PHP code allows our developers to customize pretty much anything on the platform, including allowing us to add some of the most complex shipping and inventory features for clients who have very specific, industry-related business specifications."
"As compared to platforms such as ATG or Commerce Cloud, its interface is easy to use. Magento also provides seamless administration for business users. You can also integrate an OMS to an extent. You don't need to have a dedicated OMS. You can leverage the out-of-the-box features of Magento, which is very valuable for startups. Other platforms, such as Commerce Cloud, don't have an OMS, and you have to have your own OMS solution."
"What I appreciate most about Adobe Commerce is the customizable element, as absolutely everything in Adobe Commerce is customizable."
"It's the best tool on the market and is a complete e-commerce system for product management. For instance, if the customer has a log enterprise level product, they can manage it here."
"Hybris offers a platform designed for speed."
"Through the ability to consolidate disparate knowledge repositories either through synchronous asynchronous, API batch, synchronization or other custom methods, I can disseminate as much or as little data through the widest variety of channels."
"The tool supports multiple currencies."
"It's a good product in terms of scalability, functionality, and flexibility."
"SAP Hybris Commerce is a very advanced e-commerce platform compared to other platforms such as WebSphere Commerce, Oracle Commerce, and others."
"The user interface can be customized."
"We have found the B2B, B2C and D2C very valuable."

Cons

"Magento application consumes gigabytes of RAM when executing heavy processes, and PHP often cannot handle the load."
"Should have a way to communicate properly with the team that builds the platform"
"Magneto is monolithic in character, making it difficult for us to scale up very high quickly on the content side."
"The performance is a bottleneck in Magento and there is a lot of room for improvement in this regard."
"Magento 2 is only three to four years old, so it is an evolving technology."
"I am still playing around and trying to catch up with the latest version to understand all the features, but I do feel that its CMS can be much more streamlined. They provide a what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor, which many customers prefer, but based on the implementations that I have done for more than seven years, I have seen that many times, it is run by the marketing team, and they don't find it very comfortable to use. They feel uncomfortable managing and changing the content. As a business user, you need to have at least basic knowledge of HTML, which you cannot expect from all marketing teams. Some companies or organizations have that competency, but many organizations, especially in the Middle East, have a very small team, so it becomes quite difficult for them. This is a common challenge that I have seen across the platforms. Magento is better and easier than Oracle Commerce Cloud, but Shopify is much easier than Magento. A layman or my 10-year-old kid can go ahead and set up a store in Shopify in probably 45 minutes, which is not the case with Magento. Elasticsearch has really been a pain. It takes a toll on the performance. Starting with version 2.4, Magento requires Elasticsearch, which has been causing a lot of serious performance issues. We had a client in the US who was running a promo, and they lost a subsequent number of orders over one and a half hours. They were on the enterprise platform, not open-source. The team had to open a ticket with Magento. Its performance needs to be upgraded, or some kind of guidelines have to be provided for the setup. It looks like even Magento has no clue. When you go through the answers given in the online community, it seems that in spite of having the hardware configurations that they suggest, it is not performing at the optimal level. It should also have a better way to measure performance. Performance measuring has to be much easier. Many times, we see CPU utilization going up and down. We see spikes without any reason. Therefore, we need a better performance management system."
"The hardware requirements of the tool should be made better, as it is a solution that is very heavy on the servers, and it makes it expensive to host many servers."
"One significant drawback of Commerce is its substantial size, which allows for extensive customization but also elongates the development process for an e-commerce website."
"It is very expensive to implement, which is why many companies who can't afford would normally move to Salesforce or Magento."
"The learning curve is high."
"They need to use microservices to make it more scalable, but it's acceptable for now."
"SAP Commerce needs to have a credit limit like Salesforce. Currently, we have to do the coding and customization and then showcase it to the user."
"The support team should improve the response time."
"A public cloud solution of this software would open great possibilities."
"They have just started to work with the cloud, but they only support Microsoft Azure."
"The solution is complex due to the rapid development of new features in SAP Commerce, which requires the changing of older technologies and migration to new ones."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Many implementations were open-source. We also had a couple of enterprise-level implementations, but I didn't have visibility on the licensing cost."
"This solution is cheaper than some of its competitors. However, the price depends on which country you are in. In some countries, such as Greece or some Southeastern European countries, the price for the client can be expensive."
"We transitioned from the platform's commercial license to the open-source version, which helped optimize costs without affecting our sales."
"The cost of implementation is cheap compared to other solutions."
"The product offers an open-source version, which is free. There are licensing options for Adobe Commerce's cloud version."
"The price of the solution increased after Adobe acquired Magento. At this point, we know the price of Magento and SAP, and while they may have lower entry tickets, they are ultimately comparable."
"This is an expensive solution."
"I don't know the cost, but it can be expensive."
"The price is quite high."
"The price is too high."
"The solution is very expensive in Turkey."
"The solution is expensive."
"SAP Hybris is expensive, which is why only the large clients use it. At the same time, I think that the return on investment warrants it."
"The product is expensive. I would rate its price a seven out of ten. The solution's licensing is yearly."
