The support of this solution is great. The timeliness of their responses is crucial for me. When I raise an issue, I can count on receiving a prompt reply, eliminating the need for extensive online searches or phone calls. This efficiency is paramount in saving time. In the rare instances where problems arise, they are usually swiftly addressed.

To improve Cisco Wireless, the ports on the access points are all 100 Meg, not 1 gig. We have not gotten a gigabyte interface of about 1,000, but the controller we have is just 1 gig. We would prefer if we could increase the controller to a 10 gig interface because we want to connect our controller to a 10 gig interface, which currently limits us to 1 gig. When we want to move higher capacity data via wireless, it limits us to 1 gig.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There is a definite ROI with this product. This product creates a baseline of technology that will be a means to grow from five to ten years from now. By using this solution, it is an investment on the installation of that baseline."
"OmniAccess Stellar AP1230 Series is better than CISCO highest model Aironet 3800i AP in terms of quality, user capacity, coverage, performance and price."
"Express in default configuration mode with first turn-on is easy to set up and deploy from a medium installation standpoint."
"We are very satisfied with the performance."
"The initial setup is pretty straightforward."
"We needed a solution to provide internet access for the majority of 317,68 KM square site and assure authentication, authorization and accountability compliance of users, and OmniAccess has enabled us to do so."
"With the Captive portal to manage the Guest access is very easy, and with the Spectrum Analysis some very difficult radio issues can be solved with very little effort from my side."
"Configuring Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar is easier than Aruba HPE."
"The license and prices are great."
"We can deploy a simple guest captive portal to allow guests to connect to the internet."
"Compared to other solutions, captive guest network is one of the best isolation and tunneling."
"This is still a reliable and useful product but other vendors are catching up."
"It can provide support for real-time applications, such as VoIP and Video Conferencing over wireless infrastructure."
"The ability to make different types of networks, such as land networks, is the most valuable part of the solution."
"It is a stable solution. The performance was good."
"Cisco Wireless is mostly stable with a low downrate and the signal rate is good, and it is also easy to use."

Cons

"It is not possible to integrate Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar with third-party software like Opera, a property management system (PMS)."
"Simplification of the configuration processes and improvement of the maintenance software OmniVista 3600."
"The GUI is a little bit slow."
"Better integration with third-party systems is what our customers are expecting in the future."
"Sometimes, we're not able to meet the complex requirement with Stellar."
"The current implementation of our Guest Access network in isolation for Express mode is very complicated in comparison with leading market solutions."
"If the customers plan to go on the cloud side, they need encryption and daily communications from a security perspective."
"It needs to be faster in order to process and transmit bigger packets."
"Cisco Wireless needs to improve compatibility with Apple devices. Its deployment should also be made easier. It should also reduce the complexity around security."
"The price of Cisco Wireless could be adjusted down, it is a bit expensive."
"The new licensing model isn't as good as what they had before."
"Overall I haven't had any major complaints. I have noticed though when grouping interfaces, sometimes if you need to delete a previously created interface group there can be glitches."
"The technical support could be better. They aren't as helpful as they need to be when we run into issues."
"Product is not the cheapest on the market, can be more competitively priced."
"I had to reboot the controller a couple of times to force correct EAP key exchange."
"Management and monitoring features need to be improved and the inclusion of a cloud-based solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"At times, it appears that the solution's pricing is slightly higher. This makes it challenging to persuade customers who primarily focus on the price."
"Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess Stellar is a mid-range solution with respect to pricing."
"The price of this product is average and it is a one-time, perpetual license."
"It's pricey, but better than similar solutions."
"The price is in the range of other brands like Cisco, maybe a little cheaper but you get the same features, facilities, and security. Licensing is something Alcatel is making changes to. A few years ago you would buy a WLAN solution from Alcatel for half the price of Cisco, but you would spend the same amount on licensing. Today this is different and the licensing is cheaper."
"The tool is cost-effective, according to our sales team's feedback."
"We find the price comparable to other products on the market."
"The price of this solution is a little more than competitors."
"The solution is very costly."
"I think it's affordable. Maybe there are little differences, but it's not very expensive. But with all Cisco products, you have to pay more for the power supply. You'll have to pay for the PoE converter."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"They have simplified the licensing, now there is a single license that is required. Earlier, multiple licenses were required. Single licensing is good. As a customer, I don't need to keep an inventory of multiple licenses."
"The price is a little high. However, you get what you pay for. The quality of the product is high, you will find it is worth the money. There is some additional cost, for example, customer support."
"It is expensive, and there are some costs in addition to the standard licensing fee. Its licensing model and cost should be improved."
"Its cost is a little bit higher than other products. Fortinet and Huawei are cheaper. If we were not a bank, I would go for Huawei or Fortinet because they are cheap, and I don't need that much security. A financial institute, a university, or a medical institute would need security to protect the customer data. That's why we buy this high-end product that has integrated security features."
