Easily manage configurations and monitor networks with enhanced reporting capabilities
In version 8.7.70, I am not able to change a user from administrative to room once the user is created. This limitation is challenging and was confirmed by Alcatel as not possible in the 8.7.70 version under the user section. The option of changing from administrative to room should be available in the user section.

Has an easy implementation process, but the performance monitoring feature could be more intuitive
The project implementation was easy overall. Adapting Cisco's solutions to our specific environment required effort, as their documentation only covers some network scenarios. The deployment didn't happen all at once; it was staged and controlled to ensure a smooth transition. We started with a small test environment before gradually rolling it out to all campuses. This gradual approach helped mitigate the risk of any issues arising across multiple locations simultaneously, especially on a critical day like Monday morning. We have a team of three executives working on the process. Their job roles included network specialists and a manager. It requires maintenance, which is included in the annual cost. We receive updates and support as part of the renewal process.

Pros

"I really like Visual RAF, I use that a lot and then I use the up and down status reports because it will send me emails and text messages when access points go up or down, so I am always aware of what is going on."
"Being able to see the health of the network is most valuable; it is very strong in terms of stability and scalability, and their technical support is also good."
"The reports are good."
"It is a good investment for features."
"The solution is easy to manage, especially the configuration manager, which simplifies the process of adding, modifying, and removing users or new devices and allows for creating new users without using a physical interface or Telnet while offering detailed reporting and real-time monitoring of network performance."
"OmniVista is a unified solution. It makes management easier in case the router, switch and the WiFi are of the same brand. It also allows us to monitor the WiFi signal strength, switch speed, and bandwidth consumption, and easily block users. We also use the analytics feature, which provides a dashboard showing the number of users per WiFi access point, signal strength, and internet performance. It also monitors the temperature of the equipment."
"What we found valuable from Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is that we are able to get reports, analytics, health analysis, and everything required by the customers."
"The most valuable feature of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is the monitoring of wired and wireless equipment."
"Cisco Prime is helpful as it provides us with real-time monitoring, which allows us to be proactive in our environment."
"Our clients are happy with Prime, the stability is good and it's easy to manage."
"In terms of reliability especially, Cisco is light years ahead."
"Cisco Prime is a one-stop place to log in and manage our entire wireless infrastructure."
"Has a good wireless heatmap and search management features."
"Technical support is great, and we find them to be helpful and responsive."
"We use Cisco Prime for network mapping and surveys."
"Our primary use case for this solution is Assurance; it helps us manage and monitor analytics and fix issues such as poor voice quality, with real-time alert generation for VoIP infrastructure so that, for example, if there is latency during calls, it can be immediately alerted to take immediate action before we investigate the deeper issue."

Cons

"The support of Omnivista could be better. It's very expensive because it requires a subscription for support, and the licenses are proprietary. If you want to scale or expand your operation by adding more WiFi access points, you have to buy another license."
"Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista could improve by adding more cybersecurity features."
"The support of Omnivista could be better. It's very expensive because it requires a subscription for support, and the licenses are proprietary. If you want to scale or expand your operation by adding more WiFi access points, you have to buy another license for that. The web-based interface of OmniVista is user-friendly, but for some administrative tasks and functions, you have to use the CLI, which is difficult if you don't have enough training. It relies heavily on CLI guides and manuals. For improvements, I'd suggest making the WiFi access points lighter.. Lighter access points like those from TP-Link or Ubiquiti would be better. Additionally, the switches struggle with heat in our environment. They can get very hot and damage the electrical components due to inadequate cooling."
"They should add more security features."
"What we'd like to see in the next release of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is a reliable and proper heatmap for the access points."
"I would like to see a little better reporting, not reporting features, the report maker to be a little better."
"It needs to be infused with more artificial intelligence and machine learning."
"Adding a reliable and proper heatmap for the access points would make this solution better."
"They could consider offering more flexible pricing options for their customers."
"The solution is considered legacy and DNAC has overcome it because of centralized controls that allow a complete LAN network to be moved to centralized management."
"The overall management capabilities of Prime need to be improved."
"Cisco can only be used for Cisco environments and is not compatible with other vendors."
"Cisco Prime's initial setup is complex."
"The reporting could be simplified and the information made clearer to the user."
"The solution is not easy to configure. It's not user-friendly for admins."
"The product is expensive compared to other vendors in the market."

"Its price is reasonable."
"This is an open-source solution, we do not pay any money to use it."
"The price of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is cheaper compared to other tools on the market. The license for this software is a one-time license only, so there is no renewal needed. It's a perpetual license."
"The price of Cisco Prime was reasonable because we purchased it as part of a Cisco One package. The package was a bundle of Cisco solutions together, such as Cisco ISE and CMX. The price is reasonable com compared to other solutions."
"The cost is quite high."
"We update the license every five years."
"The solution is not inexpensive but is worth it for large-scale environments."
