Easily manage configurations and monitor networks with enhanced reporting capabilities
In version 8.7.70, I am not able to change a user from administrative to room once the user is created. This limitation is challenging and was confirmed by Alcatel as not possible in the 8.7.70 version under the user section. The option of changing from administrative to room should be available in the user section.

Dynamic discovery and effective network topology make IT monitoring valuable
The solution enables dynamic discovery and incorporates a powerful configuration management database, CMDB, along with a strong correlation engine. It covers the entire span of the infrastructure, including servers and network operations. It also adapts well to different environments, showing network topology effectively, making the network monitoring tool quite valuable.

Pros

"We use the Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista for analytics, appointment manager, and security."
"The command line is very user-friendly, making it easy to implement the network."
"The solution is easy to manage, especially the configuration manager, which simplifies the process of adding, modifying, and removing users or new devices and allows for creating new users without using a physical interface or Telnet while offering detailed reporting and real-time monitoring of network performance."
"I really like Visual RAF, I use that a lot and then I use the up and down status reports because it will send me emails and text messages when access points go up or down, so I am always aware of what is going on."
"The most valuable feature of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is the monitoring of wired and wireless equipment."
"What we found valuable from Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is that we are able to get reports, analytics, health analysis, and everything required by the customers."
"The solution is easy to manage."
"The reports are good."
"When it comes to customization, Micro Focus is more mature than its competitors."
"We can detect non-compliant devices and automate remediation actions to cover the gap in the configuration standards."
"The solution enables dynamic discovery and incorporates a powerful configuration management database, CMDB, along with a strong correlation engine."

Cons

"One feature that is missing is the netting feature, which allows for public-to-private network transitions and vice versa."
"The support of Omnivista could be better. It's very expensive because it requires a subscription for support, and the licenses are proprietary. If you want to scale or expand your operation by adding more WiFi access points, you have to buy another license."
"Adding a reliable and proper heatmap for the access points would make this solution better."
"I would like to see a little better reporting, not reporting features, the report maker to be a little better."
"In version 8.7.70, I am not able to change a user from administrative to room once the user is created."
"They should add more security features."
"What we'd like to see in the next release of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is a reliable and proper heatmap for the access points."
"Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista could improve by adding more cybersecurity features."
"Micro Focus Network Management doesn't support end-to-end monitoring of cloud infrastructure. Micro Focus might have different cloud solutions for cloud automation and hybrid cloud management. There are a lot of products that also support automation. That is different, but it should monitor the cloud from an IT operations management perspective."
"Micro Focus Network Management doesn't support end-to-end monitoring of cloud infrastructure."
"The user interface is outdated and needs improvement, especially for service and topology maps."
"It may need a more customizable UI."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would rate OmniVista's pricing seven out of ten since it is expensive."
"Its price is reasonable."
"This is an open-source solution, we do not pay any money to use it."
"The price of Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista is cheaper compared to other tools on the market. The license for this software is a one-time license only, so there is no renewal needed. It's a perpetual license."
"Micro Focus' price is on the higher side, but there are other products like CA products and IBM that are more expensive. At the same time, you have to compare the maturity level of the solutions."
