Managed cloud services have helped accelerate experiments with flexible configuration options
Sometimes the costs associated with spinning up a service, especially managed services, have implications. For example, if I create a Glue job, that will create S3 buckets and other resources that have cost implications, but once I clean up a Glue job, it does not delete the other accessory resources. Sometimes, I have to go hunting for what resources Amazon AWS might have provisioned and how it is costing behind the scenes. It can be complex depending on your level of expertise. It is not as easy to get started, especially when it comes to secure practices. Amazon AWS is more hands-on than other platforms.

A scalable and stable solution that has good scalability and is easy to setup
It is a scalable solution. I have yet to have a scenario regarding automatic scale and if there's an increase in resource requirement or need. We have yet to have that scenario. We have yet to test that. The scalability was more than manually adjusting and increasing whatever I had to do. I rate it eight out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is intuitive, easy to deploy, and rather quick to deploy and set up. There are a number of native services in the ecosystem. These services are built into the cloud and are mature enough to support you in many ways."
"The solution also helps organizations to move applications to a containerized platform."
"It scales well and is flexible."
"Amazon AWS has a better portfolio. They have an impressive technology and service portfolio."
"The features with Amazon AWS that I have found most valuable are its flexibility and high availability. These are the most important and attractive points for me."
"The experience with Amazon AWS is error-free. That was also, of course, something that I really appreciate. That means it's really well-tested and, as published or as declared."
"The tool's most valuable features are AWS Security Hub and AWS GuardDuty."
"The main reason why we use EC2 is because we are not dependent on maintaining the hardware inside our premises. Also, we have full control over the infrastructure, and we can modify it as per our own requirements."
"The solution is scalable, and that is what we are looking at. There is no learning curve as we have not done much research."
"Technical support from Jelastic is very good."
"The dynamic vertical scaling is a unique feature."
"The advanced level of production-ready Docker hosting, one-click application deployment, and the truly flexible pricing."
"The control is valuable. It's really easy to use and you have good control of your solutions."

Cons

"The solution could offer better integration capabilities."
"You'll probably experience some sticker shock with AWS. You attempt to understand the cost, but you don't realize what you're paying until you get your first bill. I don't know if Amazon does that on purpose, but costs can get out of control quickly if you don't have someone who specializes in AWS cost management."
"Many of our clients prefer in-house cloud rather than the application data sitting in the infrastructure owned and managed by Amazon."
"We would like to see if AWS includes any inbuilt automation. Also, we are very interested in AWS's AI/ML features, as well as IoT, AR, and VR."
"I think Amazon could improve some of the security or fine-grained access for metadata and many other things."
"One of the issues I'm facing is that my RDS SQL Server version 5.8 is reaching its end of life, and I need to upgrade it to a customer-wanted version. I want to do this on Graviton instances, but Graviton only starts with version 8.0 and currently doesn't support the 5.8 series. We've raised a Priority Feature Request (PFR) with AWS to have this functionality added for at least three months. This would give us enough time to upgrade our database to the 8.0 version without any issues."
"We like everything about the solution except for the general price."
"The technical support should be better than what is on offer right now."
"The backup features need improvement, or rather it should be added, as I could not find it."
"The backup functionality needs to be improved."
"The security layers also need to be improved because there is no clear layer or tier of security in the solution."
"For now, some customers are requesting support of Docker containers for Windows."
"Lacks better integration into enterprise storage products."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its pricing can be simplified a little bit more. Even though they have been reducing it, I still believe they can do better as compared to GCP, Google Cloud."
"The pricing is expensive."
"When compared to GCP, Google, or Azure, the price could be lower."
"The price is quite good; it is a pay-as-you-go option."
"As a startup business, it's very well priced, but if a number of transactions go up, clients have voiced that they are in a situation and feel a type of pressure and desire to move out of AWS."
"The prices are a bit high."
"In terms of price, there are less expensive options."
"Pricing is an area that can be improved because it is very complicated. It considers the number of processes, bandwidth, and different kinds of usage. This makes it difficult to predict."
"I would rate the cost 3 out of 5. There are additional costs other than licensing fees."
"Pricing for providers is revenue-shared based. Providers should invest in hardware to set up the Jelastic cluster."
