Managed cloud services have helped accelerate experiments with flexible configuration options
Sometimes the costs associated with spinning up a service, especially managed services, have implications. For example, if I create a Glue job, that will create S3 buckets and other resources that have cost implications, but once I clean up a Glue job, it does not delete the other accessory resources. Sometimes, I have to go hunting for what resources Amazon AWS might have provisioned and how it is costing behind the scenes. It can be complex depending on your level of expertise. It is not as easy to get started, especially when it comes to secure practices. Amazon AWS is more hands-on than other platforms.

A scalable and stable solution that has good scalability and is easy to setup
It is a scalable solution. I have yet to have a scenario regarding automatic scale and if there's an increase in resource requirement or need. We have yet to have that scenario. We have yet to test that. The scalability was more than manually adjusting and increasing whatever I had to do. I rate it eight out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In terms of stability, the first impression is whatever services we have provisioned in the AWS cloud, we've never caught any issues where we needed to reach out to the Amazon support team."
"I am happy with the dashboard."
"The scalability of Amazon AWS is excellent. I would rate it as a 10 out of 10 because they have massive power."
"Overall I like this announcement and look forward to moving beyond the preview."
"Using AWS is really helpful for saving costs."
"I like the auto-scaling functionality and compliance requirements, whichever they are requesting."
"I like everything about AWS, especially the reporting."
"We are very satisfied with the product so far."
"We almost don't have to maintain our servers."
"The technical support is extremely helpful, and they have a very good support team."
"The advanced level of production-ready Docker hosting, one-click application deployment, and the truly flexible pricing."
"Technical support from Jelastic is very good."
"Technical support from Jelastic is very good."
"Jelastic is exactly what we expect from a PaaS vendor: easy-to-start, easy-to-manage, container based technology, support for vertical and horizontal auto-scaling, and all this without vendor lock-in."
"The solution is scalable, and that is what we are looking at. There is no learning curve as we have not done much research."
"The control is valuable. It's really easy to use and you have good control of your solutions."

Cons

"They should have a better big data stack."
"An area for improvement would be their technical support packages. They should improve the technical support packages for users on free trial."
"Amazon AWS could improve by being more secure and adding more features."
"There is room for improvement in pricing."
"We are not happy with the general price and find most of Amazon's products to be quite expensive."
"Amazon AWS could be improved by lowering the general storage price."
"Like anything, failures happen every once in a while."

"The security layers also need to be improved because there is no clear layer or tier of security in the solution."
"The security layers also need to be improved because there is no clear layer or tier of security in the solution."
"For now, some customers are requesting support of Docker containers for Windows."
"The backup features need improvement, or rather it should be added, as I could not find it."
"I would like to see better integration into enterprise storage products."
"The backup functionality needs to be improved."
"For now, some customers are requesting support of Docker containers for Windows."
"Lacks better integration into enterprise storage products."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the Virtual Desktop service from Amazon AWS could improve, it is more expensive than competitors. The pricing model we are using is pay-as-you-go. You only pay for what you use."
"The prices are somewhat on the higher side. It would help if they can bring it down, especially for the sporting segment and for on-demand instances."
"It is not the cheapest one, but there is a good ratio between the quality of service and the pricing. Its price is good for me."
"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"The prices are a bit high."
"Its price should be lower. Currently, the price is the same if you are working in-house or in production. If you have to do internal testing or you are checking if things are working in-house, you need to pay for that, and the price is the same. The price for in-house usage should be different from production usage."
"Amazon AWS could have more options and transparency in its pricing model. You need in-depth knowledge to adopt AWS. So someone without that knowledge base might not understand all of the costs associated with AWS."
"It's paid on a monthly basis and you have to pay for the resources that you use."
"Pricing for providers is revenue-shared based. Providers should invest in hardware to set up the Jelastic cluster."
"I would rate the cost 3 out of 5. There are additional costs other than licensing fees."
