Manage complex traffic routing with ease and ensure system availability
The ELB would benefit from allowing deployment in a single availability zone for test servers to avoid unnecessary costs. Additionally, the ability to directly block specific IP addresses without additional service integration would be beneficial. Furthermore, sometimes ALB has a delay in recognizing the need to scale the system based on CloudWatch metrics, which could use improvement.

A tool for centralized management including inventory and sales tracking
Citrix ADM has the ability to implement policies to tighten security. For instance, you can restrict access to your network from outsiders or lack necessary security measures such as antivirus programs. Additionally, there's the Delivery Controller, which allows for comprehensive monitoring and management tasks such as remote restarts, maintenance, and registration. Another essential component is the Director, which provides detailed insights into sessions, including identifying session failures, connection issues, user lockouts, etc. It presents a list of problems to address, enabling you to click on them and resolve them efficiently.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Overall, I would rate the ELB solution ten out of ten."
"Customer support is good."
"The solution is very well integrated into Amazon's services."
"I find it valuable that you can provide rule prioritization and set priorities for path-based routing."
"The feature that I like the most is the scalability. The solutions I build often have many pieces, which are very complicated. If a client comes to me with a design, my developer has made this as a template or a cloud formation script. It's a design on paper, and I want it executed a certain way. I can do that quickly and repeatedly with AWS. That is a considerable advantage because I can take that template and do it five times in different zones. That is an excellent feature based on a template, et cetera."
"The most valuable feature is the Lambda function due to its utility with serverless technology."
"The network load balancer is really fast."
"We use the solution for internet-exposed websites and internal load-balancing purposes."
"Provides resiliency for applications that reside on servers, as well as connectivity to remote applications."
"The GSLB feature allows us to move services between data centers. We can do this in either a planned or unplanned manner. We have experienced service provider outages at our primary data center and GSLB will kick in to automatically modify DNS records to point to a secondary data center (active/passive). We also make use of GeoIP information to point clients to the closest data center for accessing applications."
"The flexibility in configuration options is impressive."
"Citrix Netscaler makes it easy to provide services to end users, offering better visibility into user sessions compared to VMware. However, instability in network or machine can cause headaches as it's hard to pinpoint issues. SSL offload feature enhances security posture by providing secure connectivity between end users and backend systems. We use additional Azure remote security solutions for comprehensive protection."
"One feature that works really well is the SSL VPN. It's very easy to set up and you can go very granular with it. You can define what user groups get what kind of access and the management overhead is very low."
"I like the solution's simplicity compared to Citrix's on-prem solutions."
"NetScaler Gateway: Why? Availability/Security: We delivered more than 200 applications thru Xenapp. This feature give us the possibility to deliver the applications anywhere. Currently, 30% of access is made through our NetScaler Gateway (Internet connections)."
"The advantage of Citrix Web App and API Protection is just its graphic user interface for beginners. The solution is nothing special, but we have to use it for the corporation. Another advantage of Citrix Web App and API Protection is that we have our copy to test things and get the know-how of it."

Cons

"Improvements could involve making Amazon Elastic Load Balancing a global service, as currently, it is region-specific."
"The latency compared to the network load balancer could be improved."
"The solution needs to guarantee stability because multiple loads behind a load balancer can cause service unavailability."
"Improvement is needed in the integration with Terraform, especially in writing scripts for creating load balancers and target groups."
"The ELB would benefit from allowing deployment in a single availability zone for test servers to avoid unnecessary costs."
"The product's stability is an area with a slight shortcoming, which can be improved."
"One issue that we faced with ALB was that leaf-level certificate validation was not happening. It is not that user-friendly in that aspect."
"The tool could enhance the internal load balancer with better health monitoring. The external load balancer needs more security parameters to protect it from the internet, as it currently lacks protection. It's okay for basic load balancing and those looking for basic functionality in an application load balancer. However, if someone is going to onboard a critical application, like in the banking sector, I wouldn't suggest Amazon Elastic Load Balancer because of security issues. There are no firewall restrictions."
"The vendor provides frequent patches, however, the security of the website has room for improvement."
"Scripting and writing expressions need to be improved by putting logic behind the rules and improve policies involving some of the scripting part, which is a tedious task to do."
"Development team's response time could be better."
"I feel that Citrix NetScaler's customer support needs to improve."
"When a new version comes out, sometimes, my existing configuration gets wiped out. They should work on this so that my existing configuration doesn't get impacted with an upgrade to a newer version. There could also reduce frequent firmware upgrade activities and have a stable version so that once we upgrade it, we don't have to upgrade it for two to three years."
"Reducing the overhead required for AppFlow data collection, specifically for HDX Insight, would be a huge improvement."
"Their upgrades are not very backward compatible, and sometimes they mess up."
"I would like to see multifactor authentication added to this solution to improve the security."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost for using the application load balancer is approximately $18 to $21 per month."
"The licensing fees are based on the number of connections one uses. It is a free tool for a certain amount of connections, which runs into thousands, and after that, there is a certain amount to be paid to Amazon."
"The solution's pricing is low and I rate it a nine out of ten."
"I have no issues with the tool's pricing."
"The solution's pricing is $30 per month."
"The solution is expensive."
"There is a yearly license."
"The product is not cheap."
"Licensing is adequate. I wanted to have a more prominent license, but until I do they don't give enough support. The additional cost would be too much."
"We have been evaluating F5, Citrix, and other ADC products. Citrix is the most expense of all of them."
"Citrix ADM costs us approximately $5000 per month."
"For partners, NetScaler is not as expensive price-wise versus F5."
"The tool is cheap."
"You can do CapEx and then a yearly monthly fee, or you can do a subscription model, whether that's one month, month-to-month, or three-year subscription model."
"We get value for money. Its price is fair. I don't think it is overpriced."
"Ninety day free trial makes it easy to try out this solution."
