Shared storage capabilities provide enterprise value with good reliability
Amazon FSx is more costly compared to other storage solutions like EBS or EFS. The auto-scaling feature should be improved, as it currently includes downtime. I need to manually increase the storage, which is not ideal. Integrating FSx with Windows Server is challenging; it's a long process involving Active Directory (AD) setup and synchronization.

Secure file governance has improved collaboration and automation for client document workflows
The best features are around security, being able to set up different groups, and the governance features are really great. The new AI functionality that they released has been pretty handy. For governance and security, the audit trail capability is excellent. We are able to see when people interact or change files or if something was deleted, and we can go through and review that audit trail. The AI has been great for creating different workflows that we are able to execute. When a form gets submitted into Box - Intelligent Content Management or a file is uploaded, there are certain automations that we can put in place to where it can essentially generate tickets in our system for new users or other tasks.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The shared storage capability is highly valuable."
"We used it for disaster recovery perspective behind a number of resources, like batch services and RDS."
"I rate the stability of Amazon FSx ten out of ten."
"FSx operates as an independent service, not tied to any server, which eliminates dependencies between applications for storage."
"On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Amazon FSx a ten."
"The best features of Box for me include the structured file organizing, which is the most important part I found, and apart from that, secure sharing and integration with automation platforms, along with its smooth integration and usage in automations, is a very big plus for me."
"We've never had a penetration. We've never had a security issue that their support didn't solve. We love their audit trail. We can know exactly when a collaborator opens. We love how you can define a collaborator."
"We use Box for collaboration with files or folders, and our use is mostly for collaboration, especially on the documentation."
"The collaboration of the solution is good."
"The ability to collaborate around data anywhere, anytime is the most powerful features of Box."
"With us being an all Mac managed service provider, we find that the integration Box - Intelligent Content Management has with Finder is really good with the syncing, and it is probably one of the better file-sharing solutions when it comes to that, which is the big reason why we suggest it out to our clients."
"Using Box for cloud storage allows us to focus on the service and maintaining infrastructure."
"Office Integration. The full integration into the Microsoft Office products is just perfect."

Cons

"I've been facing a challenge when doing a failover from FSx side. AWS console does not refresh within a half hour."
"Amazon FSx is more costly compared to other storage solutions like EBS or EFS."
"From my experience, there are areas in Amazon FSx where more performance is needed, as they will be looking for higher IOPS."
"A direct FTP feature would be beneficial instead of relying on transmission services."
"Tasks and comments could be easier to see, report, search, and manage."
"I recommend doing the trial first, because it's not cheap ware. It's not overly expensive, but it's not cheap ware, and enterprise has a minimum number of users."
"The upload speed needs improvement."
"Sometimes, their website doesn't work properly."
"If you want to delete something in Box, you have to do it manually, one by one."
"The waterfall methodology for folders does not allow for privatization of folders at the root level, which sometimes may be necessary."
"I don't like the low level of role-based security it provides – it's very cumbersome, and the support is ordinary at times."
"One thing that Box would benefit from is a records management component."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The lowest price I have paid is $370 or $380 per month, while the highest can exceed $3,000 per month."
"Box's pricing is excellent."
"The more you dig, the deeper the level of tools, and the more expensive it becomes."
"My organization pays for the license."
"I have to pay for Box. It could be a little cheaper. On a scale from one to ten, I would give the pricing a five."
"There's a free version that allows you to use it with almost full-feature access. Even in the free version, it gives you all you need."
"We are using the free version of the solution. There is a free version and monthly and yearly subscriptions available."
"They are very price competitive when pushed. Initially, they come out with a standard list price, but they are willing to be very competitive. The Box price was pretty much equal to or lower than the Citrix price, and Box has more features."
"Box needs to improve with their pricing in terms of licensing costs."
