Finops platform has uncovered waste, supports right-sizing, and improves contract negotiations
I think Apptio Cloudability is a really very good platform for costing. I do understand it can be cost-prohibitive to buy the license to use Apptio Cloudability because of the way it charges. If you are not a big enough company, I can understand that. Apptio Cloudability might want to look at costing models for smaller businesses that cannot afford Apptio Cloudability or Apptio Cloudability Premium. I believe Premium is about one hundred thousand dollars or so in US dollars, and Apptio Cloudability I believe is a little bit less than that. However, there are small businesses out there that will not be able to afford either option. I wonder if that is a market to target, to look at a smaller model of Apptio Cloudability or at least a smaller costing model that could help those businesses as well. The other thing is that there are just a few anomalies inside Apptio Cloudability that I think can definitely be improved. It seems a really small thing, but when you are using it, it can actually be quite a big thing. Since Turbonomic has been integrated with Apptio Cloudability, as good as that is to be able to get those different costing figures and larger savings, it does not give the ability to have an instant Jira ticket integration with the Turbonomic costings or the advanced costing, if you would call it, inside Apptio Cloudability Premium. In the basic costings, you can use Jira and you can open up a Jira ticket and you can have all this information straight from Apptio Cloudability straight in the Jira ticket, assign it to someone, and then someone is working on it. You cannot do that in Turbonomic at the moment. I am not really sure why. Obviously, there is some sort of development issue behind the scenes, I imagine, with the way that Turbonomic works compared to the basic costing. It would be a huge advantage to be able to do that, to just open a Jira ticket, have someone assigned to it, and then proceed forward. I definitely think they should look at that.

Great topic subscription monitoring, helpful management, and useful for audits
Addition of more monitoring features to Azure Cosmos DB can be a huge help as we use the same as the main database for our applications. One more thing to note is that their support team was always ready to clear all our doubts regarding the product but we feel that it would be much appreciated if they could share with us the required resources to get new customers like us well-versed in traversing through different modules of the product. These are the very few areas where Serverless360 can be improved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Apptio Cloudability is a fantastic tool to help FinOps teams and engineering teams focus on cost reduction, cost savings, measuring, displaying, and telling the story about their numbers."
"It justifies the cost and is worth it, and we loved the experience of purchasing this solution through AWS Marketplace as it is very intuitive and cost-efficient."
"The sizing recommendation will look, and say, "You are only using this at 80%," then recommend a better fit for you."
"We're able to see reports that can show us areas where compute costs can be lowered, where we're wasting money, etc. It gives us great visibility across our teams and processes."
"Cloudability's customizable alerts help me maintain budgetary goals by providing recommendations and alerts on slot usages."
"Apptio Cloudability has positively impacted my organization primarily through cloud cost optimization, where I can have visibility across teams, see those costs, audit them, and remove unnecessary resources."
"Cloudability takes care of identifying and managing the cloud."
"The most crucial feature in reducing my cloud costs has been the rightsizing recommendations, along with the dashboards that track reserved instance spending coverage and utilization. As for Cloudability's integration with our existing cloud infrastructure, it's not integrated directly into our AWS infrastructure but rather reads and pulls data from it, providing valuable insights and analysis for cost management."
"Service Bus topic subscription monitoring turned out to be the most useful for us."
"That is exactly where Serverless360 helped us by bringing in both Service Bus management and monitoring under the same hood."
"Serverless360 transformed the way our organizations manage Azure and hybrid integrations."
"It offers all the core capabilities we need to manage and monitor our Azure services."

Cons

"We would like them to have a linear regression, so we can be predictive for budgets, allocations, and the year's follow ups. We also want to have a longer window of analytics with better certainty that our workload will fit the model, not just in a two week window."
"There is always room for improvement in education and training. We are not that mature in terms of our automation. It could help us identify where we could optimize in terms of build."
"The technical support is terrible. You can't pick up the phone and talk to somebody."
"They can improve the custom range of the network."
"I wish there was a feature to temporarily remove certain recommendations from the list for teams that couldn't implement them immediately. I believe Cloudability could improve its automation functionality and enhance cost allocation modeling."
"We have dealt with a few technical support people where we ask for one thing and they might not deliver straightaway. It seems like they are a stretched across multiple customers."
"I do understand it can be cost-prohibitive to buy the license to use Apptio Cloudability because of the way it charges."
"I would improve the integration, or the preparation of the integration, for a complex environment."
"The user interface of Serveress360 could be improved a bit to make the platform even easier to use."
"Addition of more monitoring features to Azure Cosmos DB can be a huge help as we use the same as the main database for our applications."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have seen ROI with the reserved instances, and having the ability to predict what reserved instances you can get. We can save tens of thousands of dollars, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in some cases."
"My team is one of the most expensive teams, and we look at it quite a bit. We have probably easily saved around $400,000 USD a year."
"The price of the license or the usage is a percentage of the top consumption. So it varies from year to year."
"Cloudability is a bit expensive."
"It justifies the cost and is worth it."
