Enabling efficient management with quick deployment and cost-effective solutions while needing improved support
I assess the value of Arcserve Backup's integration with multiple operating systems to be effective only for deploying the agent, as we deploy the agent and take the backup from the backup server only. I face no issues in terms of integration with Arcserve Backup. I do use Arcserve Backup's deduplication and compression features. These features help optimize storage resources by erasing duplicate data from the storage, so if we have two or three TB storage, it will take backup around three to four months. Regarding the disaster recovery feature of Arcserve Backup, we only do a simple one server disaster recovery feature. In terms of hybrid deployment scenarios, we have mostly done this in a Windows environment, with a small amount done in Linux. On a scale from one to ten, I rate Arcserve Backup a nine.

Secure reminders have improved HR document control and support better client deadline management
I really love the reminders feature of N-able Cove Data Protection because I have many dates to keep in mind while working with multiple clients. The access settings are important for me too, and the fact that HR documents are personal means I do not want everyone seeing everything, especially because in HR we talk mostly about confidentiality. It is important that not everyone gets to see everything unless they have access, and I also appreciate being able to tell which copy is the final one. The reminders feature stands out for me the most because I deal with many dates and deadlines. The reminders work well for me in practice because they make it easy for me; I do not have to keep checking my calendar, even though I also use other calendars such as Calendly. The reminders come in handy because I do not have to keep going back to that, helping me ensure that I meet deadlines and do not miss client meetings, making it easier for me to stay organized.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Arcserve Backup positively impacts the organization by providing a simple managed backup solution that is not complex, making it easy to manage and configure; that is the best feature I can describe."
"Because the package includes cloud storage, we don't need to worry about hosting it inside. That was very important to us. And because the vendor has data centers worldwide, our reps in Europe and other places can get to what they need quickly and easily."
"N-Able, as a whole, has given me the RMM solution that I desire and the backup solutions that I desire."
"The ability to back up, restore, and do different types of testing for the preventative maintenance has really increased our importance to these clients because they see the value in how fast we can get them back up and running. We're saving them money in that way."
"The product is simple to use and manage. The customers have access to verify the backups."
"With the monitoring it enables us to keep track, and it's more efficient, so it enables us to spend less time fixing backup issues for our customers."
"It's their cloud, it's their storage. I don't have to buy a space on Amazon or Google's cloud and then use their software to push it. That works well for me. This way, I don't have to worry about another option or the opportunity that there might be a credential leak."
"One of the bigger features and advantages of the solution is that it is easy to integrate with my RMM which is also N-able."
"The most valuable aspect is the added protection of having a cloud-based backup service. It provides redundancy in case of data loss."

Cons

"I have noticed that support needs to improve in Arcserve Backup."
"For the MSP side, they could have more of a "security user" that can go in and only see certain clients. If you give somebody access as a technician, they can see all the clients."
"A better default view on my dashboard would be great."
"This solution is not very good for image restores, but really excellent for files, databases and System State restores."
"For small amounts of data, recovery is easy, but when it's large amounts of data, it takes forever. So, if they can have a service where they put our data on a hard drive and ship it to us as fast as possible, it would be great. Even if there's a fee associated with it, it's fine."
"During the other 10% of the time when I have a problem, it's a mess."
"A better default view on my dashboard would be great. There is a lot of useless information there that it pulls up. They could present the dashboard slightly better, in terms of the extra information after the first five columns. The first five columns are awesome. After that, I don't care about the rest, and there are another seven things after that."
"An area for improvement that would really work out well would be if there were a little bit more of an elegant handshake relationship between SolarWinds RMM and the PCs that are being backed up, to advise regarding "up" status... Since RMM is an agent that feeds back that a machine is alive and on, I don't see any reason why they can't either tap into that one feature or build the same exact polling within the backup agent, to update right away and say the system is online or offline."
"N-able Cove Data Protection for Microsoft 365 is an area with shortcomings that need improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The pricing is very competitive and it's well worth the price."
"The cost is around ten dollars per workstation a month and that includes a certain amount of data."
"The price isn't extreme, but I'd love to pay less."
"When you have a device/appliance on the site quite a lot of the other enterprise class backup people insist that you have their appliance, which is frankly offensively expensive. Because when you pry the top off, it's just a standard 19-inch tin box with a standard Intel I5 in it, some RAM, and a hard drive. Then, you go, "Why have they just charged me 5,500 quid for a box, which I could have probably build for under 500." Whereas, with the SolarWinds product, they don't have that. The backup appliances that we have onsite are just plain cooking PCs. We can build our own machines, which is reflected in the price that we can offer a customer."
"The only option I would like to see is an adjustable scale. Right now we have 250 seats and we're not using all of them. It would be nice to be able to save that little bit of money by being able to buy just what we need."
"The pricing of SolarWinds seems to be fair compared to the rest of the industry."
"There is no per node cost, at least not the way I am doing it. I am on bulk. New customers can be set up on a trial, where they can get things all squared away, then they can switch over to being a billed customer."
"The pricing, for now, is good. The package that they gave us recently is pretty good. It depends on how many clients you have, and you pay for certain terabytes per license. These terabytes, if not used, are pooled together."
