Easy to install and use with good support and
It's too early to say what improvements are needed, but I can only say we are happy with our decision to move to TMON. We haven't looked at the graphic tools so far, but they're on our to-do list for this year. We will see what happens after the move to Rocket Software. We haven't seen any missing information about our daily work and analysis of our production systems and applications. We're like it to be possible to move some more workload to our ZIIP processors to save us some billing for general workload.

Real-time monitoring has improved incident response but still needs built-in history and prediction
A long-term performance database in SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence would be beneficial to see historical performance for the long term and observe trends. Currently, a program must be created to gather data, and it should be part of the product with a built-in database inside SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence so that a custom program to gather data and keep it somewhere is not necessary. Prediction capability is not available in SYSVIEW Performance Intelligence—the kind of machine learning intelligence desired, such as the ability to predict patterns or seasonality or month-end behavior. However, if there is a chance to use WatchTower, this ability might be gained.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The report writer in TMON is a very good add-on for batch reports which weren't available in OmegaMon/CICS."
"It is a good product for mainframe management."
"If you are looking for a good performance monitoring and system tool, this solution offers it in a very compact product suite."
"It provides much more info regarding the mainframe and interfaces, with ease of use (menus); has many more options available compared to the previous product."
"Being able to see and to have oversight of everything that happens on the job is critical, and this is what we get with SYSVIEW."
"Customer Service: Excellent. No problem with asking How-To questions."
"We have never had any issues with stability; the product runs without any problems and, on the rare occasion that there is a problem, the recovery is really good, so there was never an outage of SYSVIEW at all."
"We were using SDS from IBM; we switched because SYSVIEW is a better product."
"I have to work with other products that are its competition, and so far, SYSVIEW is one of the best out there."

Cons

"We're like it to be possible to move some more workload to our ZIIP processors to save us some billing for general workload."
"I think really in the line of IMS and what it can provide needs to be expanded a little bit for some of our purposes."
"The things that I would think about would be in relation to JES3. However, I don't know if they'll be able to do much more with that because I don't know how much longer IBM is going to be supporting JES3. So I can understand not doing additional development. But if I were to suggest something it would be the JES3 initiators, the JES3 queues."
"The screen layout could be updated and be more modern looking. The product has a 1980’s interface and it seems no investment whatsoever has been made in this respect."
"The creation of dashboards could be made much easier, such as the way it is done in BMCs MainView for example."
"As for the JES2 component of the product, CA might improve the overall performance when accessing the JES2 spool."
"If a unit of work ID is associated with a CICS, a DB2, and a MQ transaction, and having that capability correlate to those different technologies via one business application transaction which would be beneficial."
"I think they could improve the frontend action stage and alert thresholds, for a better and more-usable job action or REXX launch."
"It confuses a lot of people because there are so many features, but when they see me bouncing around they say, "I didn't know it did that, I didn't know it did that." It takes a long time to find all the different features that are available."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Pricing is a little steep, but there are a lot of other functions that it brings together. It gives you one window to look through to get to a lot of different features. The more products you have from CA, the better pricing they have, the more you can get them doing more things for you."
