What is our primary use case?
The installation/usage is very easy.
Support is very good.
TMON provides a better Sysplex/CICSplex overview; OmegaMon/CICS had a limited view of a single CICS region. This is not how it works today with CICSplex and Sysplex. The same applies for OmegaMon/DB2.
The massive amount of datasets to run OmegaMon is a mess. TMON provides a CNTL, SAMP and LOAD and not 100 of datasets like OmegaMon. Also, only a few FMIDs to install. The SMPE install is pretty easy. The display limit (LROWS) in OmegaMon is also a big issue
How has it helped my organization?
The installation and customization saved us a lot of time compared to OmegaMon/CICS and OmegaMOn/DB2.
Everybody is able to use TMON even without much explanation. Historic analyses are very easy and the view isn't related to a single CICS region so it is perfect for analyzing a CICSplex environment.
The same applies to the current task list in CICS and the thread list in DB2. The Reportwriter in TMON is a very good add-on for batch reports that aren't available in OmegaMon/CICS. All in all, it was a very good decision to switch to TMON.
What is most valuable?
The installation and usage give us the most benefits. Everybody is able to use TMON. Online history analysis is very easy and the views aren't related to a single CICS region so perfect to analyze a CICSplex environment.
The report writer in TMON is a very good add-on for batch reports which weren't available in OmegaMon/CICS. We are very happy with TMON and looking forword to installing the graphic tools soon.
What needs improvement?
It's too early to say what improvements are needed, but I can only say we are happy with our decision to move to TMON. We haven't looked at the graphic tools so far, but they're on our to-do list for this year.
We will see what happens after the move to Rocket Software.
We haven't seen any missing information about our daily work and analysis of our production systems and applications.
We're like it to be possible to move some more workload to our ZIIP processors to save us some billing for general workload.
