Can be fine-tuned as required, provides real-time data but lacks sufficient machine learning capability
In terms of machine learning, there are a few areas that can be improved including short terms in the SAP system. Currently, it requires a team member to manually read the short term and then assign it to a team rather than having it assigned automatically. A downside of Avantra is that it comes with predefined values. Another issue is that identical recurring problems create duplicate tickets rather than showing them as repeats. They also need to do some kernel updates which I believe they're working on but I haven't seen it yet; I'm hoping the solution will be completely automated. I would like to see more on the machine-learning front and to have some third-party tools.

Real-time dashboards have improved our deployment monitoring and incident response
We are using Opsview ourselves, rather than being a consultant or a reseller. We do not use its auto-discovery feature. We do not utilize its API driven architecture. I do not know what metrics we use to assess the effectiveness of Opsview's hybrid IT monitoring. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with Opsview as it is good for what it does. I do not know if Grafana has any other advantages besides better stats, as I am not involved in that side. Based on my experience, I would still recommend Opsview to others as it is good for what it does. I gave this review a rating of 8.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I definitely recommend this solution, it provides good value for money."
"It's very easy to manage and use."
"The most valuable feature of Avantra is automation. The reduction of manual work and having them automated is one of the top reasons why I would use it."
"You can customize alerts based on need."
"It's just very user-friendly, and it's very easy to monitor the servers using Avantra."
"Deployment was amazingly short and simple; I do not think I have seen any SAP-related product installs ready to work so fast, and out-of-box it included most of the functions and settings that we needed."
"It prevented two major failures in our SAP production systems."
"We now have a single view for all systems monitored within our IT estate, while we previously had three different systems (each configured differently)."
"What was very compelling about OpsView was that we could dial out the noise and have meaningful and actionable alerts."
"Opsview, though not the least expensive Nagios-based commercial monitoring product offers excellent value for performance which rivals expensive commercial products from the major IT vendors; it is well worth the money paid for it."
"As a busy sysadmin that wears many hats, it is a relief to deal with this product and the Opsview staff."
"Afterwards, they were impressed by how easy monitoring could be, and they no longer had to edit large text files in order to configure hosts and service checks."
"I am satisfied with the overall product since it works well…It is a stable solution."
"We use this solution for internal monitoring our own cloud platform because we are a public cloud provider, and we also use it for monitoring purposes on behalf of our clients."
"Opsview provides all the functionality of NetSaint and Nagios but with the simplicity of a GUI front end, using MySQL to centralize configuration."

Cons

"The dashboard needs to improve."
"The dashboard needs to improve; it's not so clear right now and we need it to be more usable so we can have all of our reports in one easy-to-access place."
"We are currently exploring automation options for various areas, and Avantra should consider implementing automation for change request management, an area they have not yet ventured into. While Avantra is currently excelling in monitoring and system refreshes, there is scope for improvement in automating change request management. In addition to primarily focusing on SAP, Avantra currently performs kernel patches which are core SAP patches. However, exploring more into OS patching could be another potential area for Avantra to expand its automation capabilities."
"I think they can improve their UI, while very intuitive, I would like to see graphic updates."
"A downside of Avantra is that it comes with predefined values."
"The machine-learning is lacking and should be improved."
"We're already evaluating v5.0 and to tell the truth, there's a couple of things that we found really useful in previous versions that for some reason they have removed."
"We are starting to hit the limits of how we can scale out."
"The graphing feature needs work, although it has been rewritten in release 5.0 and we have yet to deploy it."
"It's probably the priciest option of all its main competitors."
"Often the webpage becomes inaccessible and you need to refresh the page."
"Large Opsview setups come with high licensing fees."
"In a future release, we would like to have Observ for AI. Any AI and intelligence it can add to the monitoring is obviously beneficial. We would also like to have automated callouts."
"Sometimes Opsview has crashed, but the multiple master/slave solution provides consistent uptime for monitoring."
