Manages virtual machine backups smoothly and simplifies restoration across environments
It is quite easy to manage AWS Backup's centralized console for multiple environments. The product's interface is intuitive. AWS Backup has a much higher price if you compare it with the snapshots. I have to pay for the whole environment by AWS. We have a backup solution with only virtual machines. The rest of it, we have a restore point.

Automated backups have transformed our multi-account recovery and now streamline compliance reporting
While N2WS has served us well, there are areas for improvement. The user interface feels somewhat dated and could benefit from modernization. Navigation between sections could be more intuitive, and the dashboard design could be more streamlined compared to contemporary AWS tools. The initial setup process has a steeper learning curve than we’d prefer, especially for complex multi-account configurations. More guided setup wizards would help new team members get up to speed faster. Reporting capabilities could be more granular, particularly around cost optimization metrics and backup performance analytics. Currently, we need to gather information from multiple screens to get comprehensive insights. For future releases, we’d value enhanced integration with AWS native services like Config and CloudTrail for better compliance reporting. More advanced scheduling options that adjust based on application load would also be beneficial. Better support for newer AWS services as they’re released would help us maintain comprehensive coverage as our infrastructure evolves. Additionally, native integration with popular ITSM tools beyond email notifications would improve our workflow automation.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I rate the tool's stability a nine out of ten."
"Reporting is one of the key elements that are valuable for C-suite executives. In terms of monitoring, the solution provides comprehensive details into ongoing processes, flagging issues and warnings as necessary."
"The features of AWS Backup are very service-oriented and user-friendly."
"What I like about AWS Backup is its simple approach to a complex problem."
"It works well as a backup and as a service."
"When I was using an on-premises backup, there was an external hard drive or something like that. I had a backup server, but I had a few problems related to transfer when I had to restore something that I have deleted. I had to wait for after-office hours to do something like that, but now I just have to send a mail. Within one hour, I have my restored file."
"The most valuable features of AWS Backup are point-in-time recovery and support resources."
"It is an easy-to-use solution."
"N2W has positively impacted our organization by allowing us to conduct recovery drills and share information with our customers about our improvements."
"N2W has significantly improved our operational efficiency and our confidence in our business continuity plan."
"N2WS Backup & Recovery is very easy to use and configure backup for AWS instances."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use."
"The ability to recover instances or volumes within minutes has improved our RTOs dramatically."
"After acquiring two additional products in 2018, which we migrated from data centers to the cloud, N2W allowed us to streamline our backup process for three products within one tool."
"N2W has significantly improved our operational efficiency and our confidence in our business continuity plan."
"N2W has positively impacted our organization by assisting us in areas of cost savings when compared to other tools available, and it has also given us an extra layer of protection."

Cons

"They should work on their visual capabilities."
"The notifications on the backup and on the mobile app could be more useful. If they could arrange notes or notifications properly and offer services for managing it in our region, it would be helpful for us."
"There are some limitations to partial backup in AWS Backup."
"Only the price could be improved."
"The tool is a good fit if your environment is VM-specific. However, it might not be the most suitable option if you have physical servers or an on-premise setup."
"When it comes to encrypting data, it is not so convenient."
"The AWS Backup backend reporting is a major area that needs improvement. We would be very excited if we can see some reporting, such as trends. We do understand that there are reports available for S3 Bucket, in which the AWS backend stores the data. However, if we can receive holistic reporting, then it would be very helpful for us."
"There are multiple enhancements needed in terms of compatibility with all database services, as AWS Backup is currently limited to specific ones."
"The process for version upgrades, which sometimes requires deploying a new instance, could be streamlined to allow for a more seamless in-place update."
"S3 backups, which I know is already in the feature pipeline, would be a useful improvement."
"More documentation would be helpful, especially some step-by-step documents for recovery scenarios."
"The GUI has room for improvement."
"The reporting engine could be easier to use, but it does a good enough job for what is needed."
"There is room for improvement in stability."
"It could be improved to include disaster recovery in cross accounts for Azure in upcoming releases."
"Additional features I would like to see are the ability to restore to different vendors, AWS and Azure, and/or the ability or take the information out of the AWS cloud."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We don't use a lot of space, only approximately 900 GB, so the price is reasonable. For standing, it's okay. We normally do a payment to SSML, and they are the ones who pay over there. It is around $100 monthly."
"Our customers pay a monthly AWS fee that includes the AWS Backup service."
"There are no licensing costs for AWS Backup. You pay only for the amount of backup storage you use and then the data transferred between regions. Overall AWS Backup is priced reasonably."
"The pricing is decent."
"The solution's price is reasonable."
"AWS Backup is free of cost, but we need to pay for the backup storage being used."
"It's a myth that Cloud is cheap. Cloud is cheap initially, but the cost over time can be equal to your own infrastructure if you consume a lot."
"Its price is much cheaper than some vendors but more expensive than others."
"AWS adds more features and offer things for free, or cheaply. Therefore, we will be evaluating AWS Data Lifecycle Manager, because it will probably do backups. Thus, make sure the product that you are using is competitive or adds more value than AWS."
"It has very good pricing per instance and comes with three options, for both small and large environments, to fit your needs."
"The price is not cheap, nor is it costly."
"It's very economical and worth the cost."
"The purchasing process through the AWS Marketplace is easy. Just click the button."
"The pricing and licensing on AWS is fine, because you can do it for smaller tiers depending on your number of instances, so it's not that scary."
