Automated backups have strengthened governance and compliance while simplifying recovery
AWS Backup offers several valuable features. I think the fact that it is an AWS organization-wide service is significant. It is a centralized management system that allows me to manage AWS Backup policies, retention periods, and monitoring from a single place instead of configuring these backups for each AWS service. This helps with governance and control. Another feature I appreciate is the integration with AWS Organization, which allows backup policies to be applied consistently across multiple accounts, which is very important for large organization environments where governance and compliance are critical. I also appreciate the automated backup plans that reduce operational overhead and ensure resources are protected without relying on manual intervention. Additionally, cross-account and cross-region backup support improves resilience against accidental deletion, ransomware, or regional outages. The compliance and reporting features help provide visibility into backup status, recovery points, and policy adherence, making audits much easier.

Seamless integration supports small teams with existing skills
The most valuable feature we've found with Veritas CloudPoint so far is the lack of a learning curve because the team was already familiar with all of the consoles and how to build policies. As they started to use it in Azure, they were able to continue doing things as they were used to doing them rather than having to learn a new tool. The efficiency gain we've experienced is that we were able to start deploying backup policies to Azure without having to learn a new tool, even though there are arguments about overhead and granularity if one uses native Azure backup tools compared to Veritas CloudPoint.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"AWS Backup has positively impacted my organization by helping with compliance and reporting, which is usually a headache for any organization."
"Reporting is one of the key elements that are valuable for C-suite executives. In terms of monitoring, the solution provides comprehensive details into ongoing processes, flagging issues and warnings as necessary."
"RDS backup is one of the most crucial components of any client's cloud environment, so we generally use that. Additionally, we store EBS snapshots in S3."
"It is highly scalable for both SMEs and large enterprises."
"AWS Backup's most valuable feature is that you can configure it remotely to create backups."
"It is quite easy to manage AWS Backup's centralized console for multiple environments."
"What I like about AWS Backup is its simple approach to a complex problem."
"The features of AWS Backup are very service-oriented and user-friendly."
"The initial setup is very easy and quite straightforward."
"I would rate Veritas CloudPoint a ten because it's done everything it says it'll do, and we've really not had many problems with it."
"The product is good for volume-level backups."
"The most valuable features are the indexing, the file-level restore, and the replications between regions."

Cons

"One improvement I would like to see in AWS Backup is the implementation of incremental backups."
"It requires a lot of time to connect the snapshot, identify the files, and restore a single file manually."
"The restore functionality is an area that needs to be improved because right now, it is not very good."
"If AWS could also add some hybrid cloud features to AWS Backup, that would be a significant improvement. For example, currently, AWS Backup only backs up to the S3 and Amazon Cloud, and you can only restore from the Amazon Cloud only. However, some people have hybrid environments. They have some workloads on-premises and some workloads in the cloud."
"There are some limitations to partial backup in AWS Backup."
"AWS Backup could improve because you cannot use Glacier for anything but EFS."
"The tool is a good fit if your environment is VM-specific. However, it might not be the most suitable option if you have physical servers or an on-premise setup."
"The AWS Backup backend reporting is a major area that needs improvement. We would be very excited if we can see some reporting, such as trends. We do understand that there are reports available for S3 Bucket, in which the AWS backend stores the data. However, if we can receive holistic reporting, then it would be very helpful for us."
"I don't care for the pricing or capacity license model from Veritas CloudPoint because there are cases where we back up the same data multiple times, yet we still owe from a capacity standpoint based on how much data is managed in our backups."
"They are niche with the work that they do, but they should have more integration with NetBackup and the reporting is something they should be working towards improving."
"The product needs to improve its file-level or granular-level backups."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a lot of flexibility with the services and pricing. The price is reasonable when compared to other products. This is very good for us."
"The pricing is decent."
"The product is inexpensive."
"AWS Backup is free of cost, but we need to pay for the backup storage being used."
"Our customers pay a monthly AWS fee that includes the AWS Backup service."
"AWS Backup is a very cheap solution."
"The pricing is okay."
"Price-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten. One only has to pay for the storage cost of AWS solutions, which is the standard cost provided by AWS."
"When comparing to other solutions, the price is at par."
