How do you relate transformations available in Informatica PowerCenter with transformations or activities available in Azure Data Factory?

Informatica PowerCenter and Azure Data Factory are Data Integration tools used to extract, transform, and load data, but they have different approaches to transformations. Informatica PowerCenter uses a graphical user interface (GUI) to create transformations. These transformations are called mappings and are made up of a series of steps that are used to transform the data. Azure Data Factory uses a more code-based approach to transformations. These transformations are called activities and are written in a language called Azure Data Factory Pipelines. When comparing transformations in Informatica PowerCenter and Azure Data Factory, consider the following: Your technical expertise If you are unfamiliar with coding, you may want to choose a tool with a GUI-based approach to transformations. Your budget Informatica PowerCenter can typically be more expensive than Azure Data Factory.

If the AI features were more improved so that I don't have to provide each and every detail, Azure Data Factory could be improved in a much better way by improving the AI features. For example, if I want to fetch any data from a raw source, I need to provide each and every detail. But if I am just uploading my raw data and if AI will sync with that data, it can analyze that data and give me proper suggestions on how that should be done in a proper way. Automatic suggestions could improve in a much better way. As I have mentioned, the AI features as well as more drag-and-drop activities could be improved. If I am making a pipeline, it should give me suggestions, such as which activity should be used, so that I don't have to remember each activity. If I have used one activity, I shouldn't have to remember what activity should I use next. It should give auto-suggestions. That is why I have given a nine out of 10. Currently, I don't know about its governance and security, but in view of its improvement, I think Azure Data Factory should improve in these areas. As I already mentioned, the AI features should be improved. Also, the auto-suggestion features should also improve.

Has supported complex data pipeline creation but performance tuning and monitoring responsiveness need improvement

Sometimes, I see various performance issues with Informatica PowerCenter, including caching concerns, whether it's a joiner transformation or other transformations, so I believe the team can enhance the performance perspectives of these transformations. Additionally, sometimes the Informatica Monitor hangs or takes time to open the current run or logs, which the team can also look into. Informatica is transitioning to cloud solutions and discontinuing on-premise support after 2026, so when we discuss Informatica Cloud and its support, it becomes quite expensive for the organization compared to peers such as SnapLogic or Netezza, which offer lower pricing. Informatica Cloud Intelligence's pricing is notably high.
