Inexpensive, easy to configure, good support, and it is easy to scale up when needed
The most valuable feature is the interface, which is very nice to work with. Whether you're working on the appliance itself, or you're working on the cloud, it is basically the same interface. It got to the point where when we needed to recover a file, we didn't look at the backup solution anymore. Instead, we went right to the Datto Backupify. Using Backupify took our time to recover from probably four days to 20 minutes. With this device, you're capable of logging into the interface or through an IP address to access the data that is stored on it. Recovery can be just a matter of spinning up a virtual machine or doing a full bare metal recovery, replacing the entire hardware-based server.

Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features are the ease of use and the fact that users themselves can self-provision and recover."
"I'd recommend it it's a really good, straightforward, easy use system, with no hidden strings."
"Using Backupify took our time to recover from probably four days to 20 minutes."
"The most valuable feature is the interface, which is very nice to work with."
"Altaro is always our go-to VM backup software."
"Give it a try as it's very easy to setup and works like charm."
"No other product offers these features for this price."
"Valuable features for us include quick recovery, compression, and deduplication, and the mix of these features leads to a reduced backup footprint while having guaranteed fast recovery in case of DR."
"Excellent compression and deduplication with off-site WAN backup included."
"The intuitive interface allows you to set up and perform backups and restores easily."
"The initial setup was very straightforward, as the software installs easily, is very easy to configure and has a nice GUI."
"The ability to test the backups without having to manually mount the VHDs after restore allows us to check the integrity of the backups."

Cons

"Not a ten because there's always room for improvement."
"The device does not allow you to do multiple backups over the whole environment."
"Stability."
"Sometimes, due to disk space and VSS, we have experienced stability issues."
"Altaro also supports booting directly from a backup drive (image), but this feature is hamstrung by the fact that it requires the backup image to be neither compressed or encrypted."
"Basically, how it works is that you have a single local drive, and then you have a cloud backup. It'd be nice if you could rotate the single local backup drive. As of now, you can't."
"Missing features at the moment are Linux file-level restore, backup from physical machines, German localized version, and probably full tape support (RDX is supported but there is no "real tape" support)."
"I need to be able to restore emails to Exchange Live not just to a PST. This is a major drawback as I want to be able to restore individual items or mailboxes directly into my live Exchange databases so the user can see the email right away."
"Sometime there are stability issues with older kit, for example, it can take a long time to compress the primary backup."
"Storage usage: you have often to manually free disk spaces."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The costs were about $1,000 USD to buy the unit in the first place, and then between $250 and $300 per year for support."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."
"The pricing is okay,"
"There is a free version for Hosts with 2 VMs."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"The price is great for the utility you get and the licensing has never caused any issues with my company."
"No other product offers these features for this price. The ROI is great."
