Very cost-effective and well organized with good compression
It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company. A managerial user who wants more information beyond the operational technician should be able to access it. It could include greater transparency regarding the volume of data trafficked on the network, as well as the expectation of deduplication. A more practical strategy could come with a backup policy model as a suggestion for both large and small companies. A simple suggestion is to visually implement the backup time as far as your physical media.

Collaborate effectively with partners and benefit from robust data management capabilities
The functions of HPE StoreOnce that I find most valuable are its deduplication and replication options. These features save data and reduce the size of data significantly. If the actual size for backup data is 100 terabytes, using StoreOnce, it will be around less than 10% of the original size due to the 1 to 10 deduplication ratio. So, compression and replication are critical features I appreciate. Additionally, adaptive backup and restore capabilities of HPE StoreOnce are indeed very helpful functions. As I know from my technical team, the process is very easy for end users because the GUI and user experience with StoreOnce are straightforward. They can restore their backups at any time. An important feature of StoreOnce is that they can reserve an amount of storage capacity as protected capacity for a limited time, safeguarding their data against intrusion and other interactions. Based on feedback from customers, StoreOnce is regarded as a highly useful solution for backup. I am satisfied with the security aspects of HPE StoreOnce, but it's crucial for any company to maintain a multi-layer security approach. Starting with a firewall is essential for maintaining their environment. Additionally, security features on StoreOnce are useful. I believe that no company should rely solely on one layer of security; they should adopt a multi-layer security strategy that begins at the network level and extends to their internal solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Technical support is excellent in my opinion."
"The most valuable feature is its ease of use; it works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure."
"The solution has had a tremendous impact on our public company, as we are now cost-effective and even better on performance with our restorations."
"The most valuable feature is the support for Linux servers."
"The support is outstanding and world-class."
"It brought many advantages - such as the learning curve being very light."
"The most valuable features are the special plugins such as SAP HANA databases, Microsoft SQL, and various types of virtualization."
"Bacula is pretty stable."
"The product's most valuable feature is stability."
"It's cost effective, technologically advanced, and very scalable."
"Backups are kind of one of those things where you don't want to worry about it, you don't want to be up at night fiddling with it, and I've probably gone from spending anywhere from maybe four to six hours a week tending backups to about 30 minutes a week."
"The catalyst capabilities of the solution is the most valuable feature."
"The Federated Catalyst Replication and the deduplication ratios obtained are amazing."
"Deduplication and compression are in a good ratio. It supports the HPE Catalyst protocol, which is much faster than NFS and other protocols. We use CommVault and Veeam, and these two solutions support the Catalyst protocol very well and are integrated at high speed. It is faster than normal access."
"Previously, if someone lost a file it could take 10 minutes to locate and load the appropriate tape, now the restore time is around five seconds."
"The product is stable; there are no bugs or glitches, it doesn't crash or freeze, it's reliable, and the performance is good."

Cons

"The interface needs to be easier for adding new devices to be managed."
"Bacula needs a graphical user interface because, for administrators, the command-line interface is okay, but for the average user it is not very easy."
"The initial setup could be a bit easier."
"A more user-friendly interface (GUI) can be developed."
"Relying solely on a desktop is a bit frustrating as its GUI isn't exactly responsive."
"Easier setup and configuration, perhaps including a GUI, would be an improvement."
"It could improve its interface or offer a specific screen for the manager of the company."
"We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist."
"The solution's pricing could be improved."
"StoreOnce doesn’t work for our class of data, which is small, and needs to include more genomic and medical research as test cases."
"Pricing could be reduced"
"The performance of NAS/CIFS Shares on a StoreOnce is acceptable for a standard write operation, but performance during restores (such as Virtual Machine Restores from Veeam Backup and Replication) is unacceptable."
"I would like to see a better integration with Active Directory to identify users."
"The user interface of HPE StoreOnce is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"One item I wanted to see is SSD drives as a cache, and that was, for a time, still lacking in StoreOnce, however, they have done it now. It's not available yet, however, it will be shortly."
"When it comes to upgrading, it always goes block-wise. One block is 48 TB raw capacity."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have a perpetual license."
"This is an open-source solution."
"The product is not expensive. It is available at a good price."
"We have got a perpetual license, and we have access to all the features. If you are using cloud banks, you can store the internal data in HPE Cloud if needed. You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."
"The price puts me off. It's definitely on the high side."
"The price of the product is reasonable."
"I would rate it around two or three because, compared to others, it tends to be higher priced."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."
"The product's pricing is medium."
"With the same capacity of Data Domain and ExaGrid, which is 80 terabytes, HPE is the cheapest one."
