It can be delivered on a specialised appliance or on the customer's hardware, but the GUI is quite basic.
Velocimetrics can be deployed as a software or hardware based solution. It captures business-level data from multiple sources, then associates, correlates and aggregates this information together in real-time. The product can be clustered for resilience and scaled to cope with complex and high…

Helps us detect cyber threats quickly and integrate multiple feeds effectively
Overall, the product is good, but when it comes to some infrastructure issues, we have to dig into more logs. There is no straightforward indication of an issue. Health check kind of dashboards are not available. More AI would help us, and more optimization, since security products run more queries. The AI module could suggest solutions, optimizing queries or workload balancing. If the product itself advises on running queries during peak times, it would be similar to what ChatGPT currently offers. We see quite a few issues on stability. Even last week, we faced something, and identifying bottlenecks is not easy. We need more SMEs, and there is no mechanism to tell us about indexer or search head issues. Self-monitoring dashboards could be beneficial. The technical support still requires more improvement. Often, primary support takes a lot of time and forwards most solutions to the engineering side. The primary support team has very limited knowledge to provide.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It provides good forensic investigations features allowing review of what else was going on at the time of an incident."
"The most valuable features of Splunk Enterprise Security are reporting capabilities. It is a good tool for checking systems and analyzing situations. I find it useful to check my systems and analyze situations."
"I would assess the stability and reliability of Splunk Enterprise Security as good, as I have not had any issues with it."
"It is very stable. We have not had any problems."
"What I like the most about Splunk Enterprise Security is the flexibility and customization it offers, as you can create dashboards, write custom SPL queries, and design detections exactly as per your environment while leveraging strong correlation capabilities and visualizing everything in a single place, which makes analysis easier and far better than other solutions."
"We have created a few custom use cases for Splunk that have helped us detect threats faster. For example, we set up endpoint-related data models and specialized setups for various scenarios. It's more efficient than some other products I've used."
"Splunk has a wide range of features that customers use to find and analyze all kinds of logs."
"Its integration is most valuable, and its UI is also pretty much easy."
"It's standardized and easy to use, so you don't have to have a lot of top-tier analysts to do the same job."

Cons

"The GUI is quite basic and can look messy very quickly"
"There is a definite learning curve to starting out."
"Splunk could improve its default machine-learning models. Also, Splunk Enterprise's native threat intelligence isn't that good. I prefer a custom threat intelligence model."
"The difficult part is related to integration with sources of data that are used to create the logs as this depends on the infrastructure of the client."
"Spam has different plugins but by default, the logs are not organized, it shows that there are roll-ups that are out of the box. I saw many plugins that can help improve or extend Splunk's functionality but I haven't tried any of them."
"When files are absent, troubleshooting becomes difficult, and performance issues inevitably arise."
"Splunk Enterprise Security can be improved by having more focus on the data health monitoring aspect, which will definitely be helpful."
"From the point of view of deployments and making custom modifications in this particular product, it becomes really difficult because deployments of Splunk can get really tricky."
"The high cost of Splunk Enterprise Security prevented us from using its full capabilities."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"There is an annual license required to use this solution."
"The pricing can be better. We are already considering Elastic because Splunk is too expensive. You have to pay based on per-day ingestion. There should be a more flexible model for the use cases where one day you have a huge amount, and on other days, it is quite less."
"I am fine with the licensing, but in terms of the cost, it is expensive for the data that we have. We have an open discussion with our account rep about this."
"The tool's pricing model is great. You can choose between workloads or volume."
"I think we recently switched to the SVC pricing compared to the ingest pricing."
"Pricing and licensing are quite high compared to other tools or SIEM tools, but the features justify it."
"Splunk Enterprise Security is expensive but the solution is equipped with a lot of features."
"It is not cheap."
