It can be delivered on a specialised appliance or on the customer's hardware, but the GUI is quite basic.
Velocimetrics can be deployed as a software or hardware based solution. It captures business-level data from multiple sources, then associates, correlates and aggregates this information together in real-time. The product can be clustered for resilience and scaled to cope with complex and high…

AI-driven insights have reduced downtime and improved cross-team collaboration
We encountered some challenges while using Dynatrace. Although the initial setup was smooth, fine-tuning alert thresholds and custom metrics took some time. Another challenge was that Dynatrace charges based on host units, so we had to carefully plan our agent deployments. The licensing model is expensive. Additionally, the complexity of setup is an issue. While OneAgent and auto-discover services are powerful, the setup is more complex compared to other tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. These integrations are simple and basic, but Dynatrace setup requires more complexity based on the environment. For new users wanting to use Dynatrace, it is difficult. However, the AI-related solutions and metrics took us to the next level for identifying and fixing things. Dynatrace requires an agent for operation. OneAgent is powerful, but it is also resource-heavy. On lightweight nodes or older systems, the agent can slightly impact performance. If Dynatrace could implement a lightweight agent behavior, we could make things faster. Additionally, if Dynatrace could add a long-term retention policy so that we could store more data and find fine-grained details, that would help us. While Dynatrace managed edition supports on-premises deployment, the SaaS version depends on cloud connectivity. For highly regulated or air-gapped environments, setup and updates can be challenging. Although the initial setup is smooth, if someone wants to fine-tune it and fully understand the tool end-to-end, it could be tricky.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It provides good forensic investigations features allowing review of what else was going on at the time of an incident."
"When we compared other APM tools, Dynatrace was the only one which could give us 100% visibility into the whole codebase, which is key for us because we can find the problem much faster."
"The benefits we receive using this tool increase productivity, which increase revenue for the state."
"Using this solution our MTTR has been lowered by 25 percent and it has decreased our mean time to identification by 90 percent, meaning it only takes us one-tenth of the time it used to because it immediately pinpoints where the problem is."
"From a diagnosing standpoint, it has been a game changer."
"It makes our lives easier as we drill down to problems."
"Session recording is one of the innovative features, which could be very useful for developers and the marketing team."
"I think Dynatrace has good integration. I saw an integration with xMatters where, when there's a problem, it can kick out a message to the whomever it is, with xMatters."
"The most valuable features of Dynatrace are the ease of installation and management, as well as its extensibility."

Cons

"The GUI is quite basic and can look messy very quickly"
"It definitely needs HA, because we have so many applications that are dependent on AppMon that it has been deemed critical. Any downtime, it just affects so many users. So that's one of our key asks for the future."
"I have run into AppMon causing issues. There have been a lot times when I have waited for a release, AppMon does the release, then it ends up taking down our application."
"We ran into a problem where the Dynatrace JavaScript agent is returning errors, and it's very apparent that there's a problem. However, the customer support will ask us for seemingly unnecessary details instead of looking at our dashboard through their account to see what the problem is. They ask us for a lot of details not really related to solving the problem. As a result, we still have a few issues that were never resolved. They're not major issues, but they're kind of frustrating."
"We would like to see: * More Integration with cloud services * Simplified licensing * Single pane of glass view * Simplified reporting I* ntegration with ServiceNow and PagerDuty"
"Where we are struggling is being able to pull that information out and combine it with other contextual information that we have in other sources. Mining that data in a big-data environment, and joining it together and coming up with larger types of analysis on it."
"Cloud monitoring is insufficient."
"The solution's user interface could be improved."
"I would like to see Dynatrace be more user-friendly. Sometimes there are too many options to choose from, which is good, but it can become confusing on how to proceed."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The cost is somewhat high."
"It's more expensive than other solutions, but worth it. We use full APM monitoring on our primary systems, but only resource monitoring on lesser systems. We shift licenses around our environment when a deeper dive into lesser systems is required."
"The pricing is a little high, but still cheaper than competitors because Dynatrace at least has pay-as-you-go. Others do not. However, the pricing is confusing. I wish it was more simplified when trying to price out moving to a yearly contract."
"Pricing is based on the number of servers monitored, so for big applications, it is a bit expensive."
"Getting the first agents installed, getting information, and coverage in a initial set of systems can be done in hours and with a low cost entry point."
"It is quite costly. Dynatrace was the most expensive, compared to the other products we looked at. But it was also a lot better. If you want value for your money, Dynatrace is the way to go."
"It's expensive."
"The pricing is not bad, but it could be better."

What cloud monitoring software did you choose and why?
While the environment does matter in the selection of an APM tool, I prefer to use Dynatrace to manage the entire stack. Both production and Dev/Test. I find it to be quite superior to anything els...

There are many factors and we know little about your requirements (size of org, technology stack, management systems, the scope of implementation). Our goal was to consolidate APM and infra monitor...
