Offers valuable integration services but requires better cloud adaptation
Biztalk server doesn't have API management so that our exposed can be protected against the SQL injection, DOS attacks. However, this is available in IBM WebMethods. The positive impact of BizTalk Server was initially limited because of scalability issues. That is the reason why management has decided to implement IBM WebMethods. We are going to decommission BizTalk Server next year. I believe the API response could be improved in BizTalk Server. We need to increase the number of servers in BizTalk Server. We used to have two servers; later on, we increased to a third server, which has improved performance. We can make it more highly available and scale out to improve BizTalk Server. Scale out means we can increase the number of servers horizontally.

A solution offering good automation capabilities while needing to improve its support and documentation
I think the solution's support could do a better job. I rate the support somewhere around four and five out of ten. There is a hoard of people that they get in touch with while contacting them. So we've done some work with them in the past. I mean, we've been a support partner for a while. But apart from that, in terms of understanding the issues for a particular technology, I think there is a lack of people at their end. So they don't really have many people with them. And by the time we could get hold of the right person, especially for production issues, it's a little too late.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The BizTalk Server business rule engine was very useful for us and has helped us for the last 12 years."
"The AS2 communication protocol is one of the most advanced processes."
"We can handle a large number of messages without any issues, ensuring that everything runs smoothly."
"Essentially, you can do whatever you like with these systems, and you do not have to take care about the scaling because if one server is overloaded, it just forwards the message to the next server, even if it were designated to a specific server. It weeds out the messages according to the load. If you want to scale it, you just add new servers."
"BIzTalk's integration with Visual Studio is the most valuable feature of this product."
"BizTalk Server offers workflow functionality that I find very effective for process automation."
"The most valuable feature is its reliability and stability. The first version of BizTalk was released in 2000, and many companies still use it. It was stable until 2013 when we had support."
"Boomi has advantages over BizTalk Server because it is more flexible, low-code, no-code, easy to implement, and has a fast go-to-market."
"Not just the solution's automation capabilities, but we like everything about it since we are more of a system integrator."

Cons

"BizTalk is in the past, Microsoft is not going to evolve it any further or add any new features."
"BizTalk lacks native cloud support. BizTalk doesn't offer in-built support for cloud. We need to use third-party adapters to connect it to cloud services."
"The product's deployment can be quicker"
"The product could be improved in monitoring, managing, and support functionalities."
"BizTalk Server needs improvements, especially because we use it for EDI messaging, and it would be very useful to have enhanced tracking capabilities for message tracking and archiving of messages."
"BizTalk Server is an outdated legacy system that does not support messaging."
"It's a complex product because you have many degrees of freedom to connect different parts together. Whether it's sensible or not, is up to you, but the machine does allow it. But because of the vast degrees of freedom, it's complex."
"I didn't find anything particularly valuable in BizTalk Server. It didn't help me, and we are moving away from BizTalk Server to a new platform."
"The user interface could be better in OpenText MBPM."
"There are shortcomings in the solution's support and documentation part."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It was not cheap, but it was affordable."
"The cost will depend on the client's requirements."
"The solution is expensive."
"BizTalk Server is not freeware. There's a significant licensing cost involved. Be sure you will actually utilize its features fully."
"Based on the knowledge, it is relatively cheaper than Azure Identity Services and cloud services in general."
"BizTalk Server is cheap. I would rate its pricing a two out of five."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is cost-efficient, and ten is expensive, I rate the pricing somewhere between nine and ten since it is a costly solution."
"There is an annual license to use OpenText MBPM."
