Supports long-running asynchronous processes effectively but has not evolved much in recent years
I think Camunda is focusing too much on the SaaS offering right now and not much on improving and developing the product itself. I did not see any innovations on that aspect, especially for the open-source version. I was making some tests recently and the tool seemed pretty much the same as it was three or four years ago. Since they made the move to cloud deployment in a more SaaS-oriented way, they do not invest too much in the community version. To be honest, it did not change much from the Activiti initial version. Activiti was pretty much what Camunda is today. They invested a lot on Zeebe and made it the engine for their SaaS cloud version. Camunda itself, the embedded engine, did not evolve too much. They could invest more on that.

Integrates well and helpful support
Ultimus Adaptive Business Process Management has good integration with all the other tools we have been using in our company. We use the data that other tools provide in our implementation. We have developed several processes here in the company, such as requests for change, request development, and buying processes. The tool allows you to modify the business rules without the need to modify the source code, the administrator can move the process one step to another without needing to be implemented in the logic of the automation, this can be done from the administration console Or with the integration EIK, there is a wide number of options for the administrator who gives you great flexibility in your administration.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The speed and execution of DMN was a big selling point for us. It's very good at conducting business processes that are easily modeled and presented in a way that's easy to understand."
"Camunda seems to have a lot of traction, maturity, and stability. It also matches the need for agile development."
"Camunda Platform is better than IBM BPM, and Azure. It is more elaborate."
"I like everything about the entire BPM that comes with the BPM suite."
"One valuable feature of the solution is its flexibility."
"The biggest difference between Camunda and Bonita might be that Camunda is simpler and more flexible for setting, though we are at the beginning and need to experiment."
"The number of client implementations and cross-language capabilities to support multiple frameworks is very pluggable compared to Pega. It's also more portable."
"The best feature is the automation."
"Development is easy on the Ultimus platform."
"Ultimus Adaptive Business Process Management has good integration with all the other tools we have been using in our company. We use the data that other tools provide in our implementation."

Cons

"I don't like the UI of the Camunda Platform, I have found the Signavio solution to be much better for me to create the process designs and execute them. Additionally, I have found the tools in the Camunda Platform are not compatible with some of my other tools. They should improve this in the future."
"I think Camunda is focusing too much on the SaaS offering right now and not much on improving and developing the product itself."
"It has a Postgres database at the backend, and it is very difficult to scale if you increase the number of processes running. We did hit some barriers. We were able to overcome them, but it was a problem. Camunda has another product called Camunda Cloud, which supposedly doesn't have the same scalability problems, but we are not using Camunda Cloud because the set of features is smaller than Camunda On-Premises. So, its scalability can be improved. Because it has a single database, it is more difficult to scale if you have a huge success."
"Lacking in forms visualization."
"The deployment model could be improved for easier implementation."
"I'm from the .NET world and I would like to use it, rather than Java."
"The latency of API could be decreased."
"The documentation could use improvement."
"Ultimus is not good at handling cash transactions. They should add a mobile application in the next release."
"We are looking for a feature that can resign and move the process from one step to another step."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is reasonable."
"There is an open-source version available, that in its core features (workflow and decision engine, modeler) is exactly the same as in the enterprise version."
"The most attractive feature of the product is that it is open source."
"We are using the open-source version of this solution."
"There is a bit of scope for improvement in how the licensing and pricing are done. They are based on the number of processing instances you execute on the cluster... but on the self-hosted mode, the pricing model should be customized."
"We use the free version."
"I think Camunda BPM can improve their licensing costs. It isn't easy to find clients with Camunda BPM licenses mainly because it's quite expensive."
"In Africa, the cost of deployment is an important factor to consider since it adds to the overall cost. This might be the only drawback to using it."
"Ultimus could stand to lower the price. Other tools are cheaper."
