Overpriced for storing documents, it is not user-friendly, and the support is paid hourly
I hate everything about it this product. It is not user-friendly. There is maybe one person in our office who has any proficiency with it. I don't like it at all. For litigation, what I wanted was a one-stop shop. Once the document is produced as an exhibit for example, then I want to be able to annotate on that document and use that during my trial versus using Casepoint for the production. However, I now have to somehow download that production into several PDFs. I can't use the sort feature or other features. I would prefer to leave it on Casepoint because now I have tagged it for witnesses, which is helpful in litigation, but the notes features on Casepoint is a tiny box in the bottom right of the document and that is not really helpful to me because of the way that I use documents in the trial is, for example, if you are going to be my witness, I draft a direct examination of you. When I get to the point in my direct examination where I want to cover an exhibit that I'm trying to admit with you, I hyperlink that. The document that I have hyperlinked has my questions and notes on the document, that I'm going to ask you about, but I can't do that in Casepoint.

Hybrid backup strategy has improved recovery orchestration and now supports flexible DR planning
I think improvements could be made in Commvault Cloud. Lately what I have seen is that there are AI capabilities that different data protection organizations are coming up with, which basically revolves around tiering of not frequently accessible data to glacier kind of storage, plus bringing in a high level of compression and deduplication capabilities. All those features I believe are there in other customers and they are bringing in new use cases from the AI perspective which I have not recently seen in Commvault. I have seen that Dell does have such features. We recently pitched a solution to the customers where we talked about data tiering and the other AI use cases, identifying the data by itself and autonomously taking decisions on how to tier the data between the different storage classes that we have. Those kind of capabilities that we have proposed to the customer as far as the partner solutions are concerned. I would like to see AI capabilities in Commvault Cloud. The rest of the features pretty much align with the other enterprise solutions that we have in the market. It is just the AI capability that is being asked by the customers as well as that I see missing with Commvault.

"Casepoint is very stable."
"Casepoint is scalable. I don't have any issues with the scalability of this solution."
"The initial setup was quite straightforward. It's really just a matter of plug-and-play."
"Commvault provides the status of a backup or restore operation."
"Overall it has great features that fulfill our customers' expectations."
"The solution includes the best compatibility metrics for integration and they are managed by Google support."
"HyperScale X is really user-friendly and has a lot of features, and it's also cheaper, faster, and more stable than its competitors."
"The most valuable feature is the ability it gives me to automate backups well and consistently, and to follow up on them as well. It also provides consistent recovery processes. Whenever we have needed to do a restore, it has worked quickly and efficiently."
"The most valuable features of Commvault Complete Data Protection are the complete feature sets it provides in one platform. You are able to backup many different types of data, such as virtual machines, servers, cloud, endpoints, Microsoft Office365, and Gmail. The usage of the solution is flexible."
"The ability to manage everything from a single pane of glass is another major advantage."
"We have multiple workloads, including SQL, Oracle, SAP HANA, especially Sybase, as well as file systems, VMs, and Exchange mailboxes. Commvault provides very good support for them."

Cons

"The biggest pain point for me and most people is that when we have to update our passwords, we have to go back in and remap our web folders."
"The biggest pain point for me and most people is that when we have to update our passwords, we have to go back in and remap our web folders."
"I hate everything about this product; it is not user-friendly."
"I hate everything about it this product. It is not user-friendly."
"I would like to see some of the code execute a little bit better when I add new licenses and assign licenses to users."
"We had some small issues with the reporting, but that was just a matter of fine-tuning the kinds of messages we receive by email. It was a little overwhelming in the initial configuration. So we reviewed our configuration with our partner and customized the reports so that we only get the important reports. I haven't seen any big issues or things that the solution is missing."
"They can improve the VMware recovery and VMware backup. There is an improvement area on the VMware infrastructure. They can make available what they call a VSA proxy. They can have an appliance-type setup to deploy VSA backups and help recover quicker. They can have an appliance ready. Instead of having to have a server dedicated to that and installing software on a server, they can just provide an actual appliance for that."
"I would like more communication informing us on what Commvault is doing in the background."
"It is a little more complicated than it really needs to be."
"For simpler environments, they have some templates for startups. Possibly for a smaller environment, they need to do more automatic configuration and selections of users who want to do backups."
"The solution requires improvement with its connection and bandwidth."
"The setup was a little bit difficult for a non-IT person like me."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's ridiculously overpriced and the bills are ridiculous."
"It is not the cheapest solution. I think the pricing is fair for mid-side customers. It is between all the other options."
"In India, this is a very expensive product."
"Commvault Backup & Recovery is priced fairly, and its performance-to-cost ratio is also better than fair."
"The cost for Commvault is very expensive, even support is very expensive. The full cost of the solution is 50,000 INR per year, which includes 20 VM backups, server data backup, and 200 desktop and laptop agent licenses."
"There is now a subscription based licence option that, depending on your environment, could offer a more efficient method to licence the solution if you are OPEX cost driven rather than CAPEX."
"HyperScale X is expensive."
"The price could perhaps be lower as well."
"The solution is expensive. The subscription is based on a monthly basis. There are additional costs that vary depending on the size of the backup."
