Good intrusion prevention, firewall, and VPN capabilities
Check Point Power-1 (EOL) has reached the end of its useful life, yet at the time, they could to make some changes such as: * Integration in the cloud. It is the new trend, however, Check Point has already contemplated this and already has its own cloud device. * Automation. As the automatic creation and application of policies, this would have been very beneficial. * Multi-factor authentication would have been a plus in security at the time. They must also make some improvements in their support departments since they do not comply with the SLAs that they provide.

Secure branch connectivity and automation have improved, but clustering and support still need work
I think Juniper SRX Series Firewall could be improved or enhanced because maybe a year or two ago, Juniper began producing new boxes such as SRX 1600, SRX 2300, and SRX 4300 and 4700, which are excellent products. They are only one unit high but have very good performance and a lot of different ports, supporting from 1 gig to 100 gig ports. Juniper also has series SRX 300, but it is an old firewall and not very powerful. I believe that maybe in a year, they will transition to another series, such as SRX 400. However, the functionality of Juniper SRX Series Firewall remains the same. The differences involve performance, quality, number of ports, and types of ports in different models of Juniper SRX Series Firewall.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In my opinion it is right product at enterprise level network to protect the user and server from external and internal threats and attacks"
"The VPN allows users to connect remotely and securely."
"The solution's stability is very good."
"It's easily scalable."
"When compared to Palo Alto, Juniper is a better choice when it comes to the enterprise network and connectivity."
"We have found this solution to be easy to implement and easy to use."
"The greatest improvement we have seen is in operational performance and operational stability."
"We are just a customer. It's a good device overall."
"We use the Juniper SRX as a perimeter firewall, data center firewall, and VPN concentrators to protect the data behind our switches, and it has a high security implementation with good stability, scalability, and high availability."
"This is a cost-effective solution because the price is very reasonable, and some of the features are available at no extra cost."

Cons

"I have to pay Check Point for every new service I integrate in the firewall and it also has license related issue which needs to renew every years."
"Multi-factor authentication would have been a plus in security at the time."
"As a networking person, I don't really have any major issues with this device. Based on my experience of using it in a cluster, it could be more stable. I had an incident when one of the SRXs in a cluster couldn't learn ARP. It is a good solution, but firewalls don't seem to be an area of development for Juniper. They are focusing on data centers, routers, and switches, not firewalls."
"JTAC (Juniper Networks Technical Assistance Center) is just okay for technical assistance. However, if you are used to Cisco TAC responsiveness, you will need to adjust your expectations with Juniper Networks TAC."
"There are a lot of features that customers do not know about and I think that better documentation would help when it comes to learning how to use the product."
"We'd like to improve the stability and the kill rate."
"It's unexpected that market support is very limited now, and SRX firewall will become obsolete and reach end-of-life."
"In terms of improvement, it could use more on the security side. It's a good stable firewall, but it's nowhere near what it needs to be for a next-generation type firewall."
"it would be more powerful if Juniper brought out a security product other than the firewall, like anti-spam, endpoint protection, etc. Customers who want to deploy security solutions are not just thinking about firewalls... Juniper should have an end-to-end solution, from the endpoint to the network level."
"We tried configuring the IDS for more than four months, but it did not work properly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"There was no additional licensing cost because there were no IPS services. It was just a firewall IP circuit router so they have the default licensing. We just need to renew the support yearly."
"The pricing is very inexpensive which is the main reason I bought the solution. One device costs around 50 EUR through the University's vendor who is modernizing our network."
"Its price is comparable to the competition."
"Its price is reasonable. In India, most of the products have a similar price. There is only a 5% to 10% variation in the price of different brands."
"I rate the solution's pricing as a four."
"Pricing is very good, not expensive."
"While the price of support is expensive, the price of the solution, itself, is not."
"The pricing is perhaps half, probably forty percent, of Cisco."
