Has improved security and enabled remote work flexibility across teams
The best features Check Point Remote Access VPN offers are its security features, which stand out to me. Whenever we are giving the remote access VPN to any employees or vendors, we can specify and control particular access. If we want to give access to a particular IP only, we can achieve that via this feature, and we also apply security features such as antivirus and anti-spyware while giving access to any employees or partners. The ability to control and specify access with Check Point Remote Access VPN, such as limiting to particular IPs or applying antivirus and anti-spyware, makes our environment safe from cyber threats and any types of malicious activities or accessing our private data. We control this through the feature by applying security policies that allow particular users. After deploying Check Point Remote Access VPN solution, I can say that our productivity has maximized. Users are working from home and even working 24/7. If they want, they can access our resources at any time, providing flexibility to work from anywhere. Employees say that sometimes they are not available during the working hour, but they can work from home at their flexible timing, needing access to our private network resources. They sit at home or any remote site and connect to our network to work, which is very good.

Has provided secure remote access to multiple client networks with consistent performance
When buying the appliance itself, there is one downside that isn't exclusive to SonicWall. When you apply all the security settings, many people have one gig connections for internet ISP. If you're bringing in a one gig connection, you have to have a more robust SonicWall to handle that throughput with all your security settings turned on. It gets pretty pricey upfront if you're bringing in a one gig connection. If the customer starts with a two, three, four, or 500 meg connection and has a small unit, they have to replace the whole box when upgrading to a gig, so scalability there is atrocious. However, this issue exists with pretty much any appliance.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The majority of people say how excellent the remote access VPN service is and they stated that once connected to a VPN service, they never experience connectivity problems."
"Check Point Remote Access VPN has impacted my organization positively by providing better security and ensuring our data is safe within the entity."
"Once we install and connect the VPN service, it keeps on running until we disconnect."
"The policies are easy to use."
"It offers a simple configuration and setup."
"This solution allows users to connect from any location, is very flexible, lets us easily control access and view usage statistics, and we are happy with the overall stability, easy configuration on the gateway side, and ease of deploying clients to endstations."
"This solution allowed our employees to log in from anywhere at any time, have the same experience that they had in the office, and access all the resources that were necessary for their work."
"The initial set up is not complex."
"Productivity for my remote workers went up dramatically once we switched providers."
"The best features of the SonicWall Netextender were its ease of use."
"The product is very cost-effective; for the price-sensitive market, this is a very good product for an SSL VPN solution."
"The initial setup is pretty easy."
"When we started to change from IPsec-type clients that were predominantly built right into the firewalls to this approach or deployment style for SSL VPN, the amount of time that our techs spent helping people with VPN issues was probably cut by more than half."
"NetExtender works very well. I never had an issue with it, and it has been working well for me. In terms of management, you have good control over the destination. You can use NetExtender to set the policy and the static route for a client. You can modify it based on what your client needs or can access. You have good control over routing."
"The best feature is that employees can connect to our LAN, and have access to our network from home."
"One of the most valuable features of SonicWall Netextender is the integration of VPN accounts with Microsoft Identity Management, which enables us to enforce secure access through Microsoft Intune and conditional access policies. This helps ensure that only authorized individuals are able to access the VPN, rather than anyone with knowledge of a password."

Cons

"When you want to deploy a new Check Point agent, it is really a pain in the butt."
"The connection has gotten less smooth as the number of users increases. The issue is that the logs fill up quickly. Too many users are connecting remotely. It worked great when we only had a few remote connections. Now, it is disconnecting people and dropping the internet connection."
"User experience and interface need improvement. The VPN client interface is functional but could benefit from a more modern, intuitive design, with clearer connection status indicators, simplified settings, and a more guided setup process would help reduce confusion, especially for less tech-savvy users."
"I would like this service to be easier to manage when you integrate it with third parties."
"The maximum it is giving us is only 5 licenses and if you need more, they must be purchased separately."
"Sometimes, we have noticed that owing to installation of various antivirus and running of inbuilt firewalls, the connection for VPN sporadically drops and tries to reconnect."
"Everything functions perfectly with Check Point Remote Access VPN based on my knowledge, but the KB documents for configuration are limited and could be improved."
"The fully-featured security module is only supported on Windows and Mac systems, which means that organizations with Linux will face issues providing secure access."
"Right now, you have to load each license on to an appliance. You can't pool across multiple appliances."
"If the customer starts with a two, three, four, or 500 meg connection and has a small unit, they have to replace the whole box when upgrading to a gig, so scalability there is atrocious."
"In future releases, introductions of AI features would be really helpful."
"The product does not work well."
"SonicWall can be difficult for some people, but I don't find it difficult. Some companies provide a VPN client for free, but you have to pay for NetExtender."
"The initial setup of SonicWall Netextender is straightforward. The only issue we encountered was with relocating the VPN appliance. If we needed to move it from an on-premise to an on-cloud architecture, we had to start over and redeploy it from scratch. Unfortunately, it is not portable and any changes to its physical location often result in the need for a fresh deployment to ensure everything functions properly."
"The UI could be a little better."
"The solution takes up a lot of bandwidth."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Check Point Remote Access VPN is not expensive and the cost is annual."
"The product is expensive. I rate its pricing a ten out of ten. For the cost of one product, we could purchase two or three Fortinet solutions with the same amount of money."
"I can say that the licensing costs are charged annually."
"The price of this product is good."
"My understanding is that the pricing and licensing are very competitive, and it's not one of their more expensive products. We buy licenses for the solution and have licenses for the endpoint servers."
"My company makes yearly payments only towards the licensing costs attached to Check Point Remote Access VPN, as there are no extra costs attached to the product."
"The solution is pretty expensive. The rating is an eight."
"Organizations that already have the Check Point NGFW need to purchase an additional license to have access to the VPN functionality."
"Compared to others, it is cheaper. When we compare it with Palo Alto, Check Point, or Fortinet, it is a little cheaper."
"The solution is cheap itself, not too costly."
"Cost wise, it would be a few hundred dollars for the base appliance with the first five clients. Then from there, your cost per seat depends on how many you're getting. It's a one-time cost, and then you have a few hundred dollars a year for the maintenance contract once you get the one-time seat costs out of the way."
"You have to pay for its license. There are some other companies that provide a VPN client for free. When you buy NetExtender, its license is available for one, three, or five years."
"The price of SonicWall Netextender is reasonable. Whether it's a small shop with only five users or a larger operation with 130 users, we have received no complaints or objections regarding cost from any of the clients we are looking to deploy it with."
"After a certain number of users, you require extra licensing."
"The solution has a pretty good price."
