Enables customers to manage security effortlessly with intuitive features and easy integration
In terms of improvements for Fortinet FortiGate, they could offer evaluation licenses, as compared to Meraki, which provides a 90-day evaluation. In Fortinet FortiGate, they do not provide standard evaluation licenses; instead, we need to request them from the OEM through the account manager for POCs. If we want to conduct a demo, we need to work with real hardware. In comparison to Cisco, we have DCloud, which helps with providing demos to customers, but in Meraki, I need to reach out to them, book a lab, and they need to provide all the hardware. I need remote access and L3 engineers to program it; only then can I offer a real-time demo to the customer.

Cloud-based solution simplifies network management with excellent support
There have been no issues with stability after deployment. There have been no complaints. For stability, I would suggest that Cisco Meraki MX is the most stable device from the security processor. Regarding content filtering features, we are using content filtering and malware access, along with all security features in Cisco Meraki MX9500. We have received good feedback from customers because since installing Cisco Meraki MX9500, we have not received any complaints. There have been no outages, no stability issues, and we have not found any vulnerabilities during security audits. It is compatible with all different OEMs, and for VPN, site-to-site VPN has been configured with other firewalls as well. We are getting very good responses from customers as there have been no complaints where we have deployed Cisco Meraki MX9500.

Enhanced threat detection with integrated security features and good support
We are using application firewalling, WAF, and SD-WAN. The capabilities are mostly within the box. For example, you will get web application firewall WAF as part and parcel of this. SD-WAN is also bundled. It integrates with their SIEM and SOAR solutions very nicely. Lastly, the pricing point is very cost-efficient as well.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is reasonable for an SME."
"The most important features of Fortinet FortiGate are the Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and firewall control applications."
"It has improved our organization with control data."
"The biggest lesson would be that Fortinet FortiGate provides a high level of security at a good total cost of ownership."
"Its performance in fulfilling our requirements has been satisfactory."
"The best features of Fortinet FortiGate are UTM, web filtering, and IPS."
"For the performance they provide, the price is acceptable."
"Their web interface to manage it is excellent, even compared with other providers."
"What I like best about Meraki MX is that it's easy to deploy remotely. The product works. It has automatic updates. I also like that Meraki MX is a brilliant device. You turn it on, stick the key in there, activate it, and then you're done. Meraki MX does what my customers need at the end of the day, so I also like that."
"I love the simplicity of Meraki MX — specifically, the simplicity of the dashboard."
"It is easy to manage, which is one of the most important things for us, and it is also flexible, stable, and scalable."
"I like the automatic firmware updates. We use the Active Directory to authenticate VPN users."
"We work also with domain control (DC) from Microsoft or Amazon. We use a whole virtual appliance with Meraki."
"The most powerful function of Cisco Meraki MX is the cloud-managed platform, where you can manage all Meraki products through a single dashboard, making it an all-in-one solution that provides analytics and management from one place."
"Now, with Cisco Meraki MX84, we have a SD-WAN, and we only need Internet in all our branches, thus, we have an easy solution to connect new branches and it is very fast."
"The simplicity of configuration is the most valuable feature of the solution."
"Sangfor's tech features and technologies are more powerful than those of the other solution providers in terms of security. They also have big solutions in terms of cybersecurity."
"It offers good value for money and is much cheaper compared to other firewalls."
"Sangfor serves most of the basic purposes of a firewall, is particularly good in the DPI where we can inspect the inbound and outbound traffic on a very granular level, gives a very good predictive measure as well as the current measure of things going on in our network, and gives us value for money overall."
"While the features are not dissimilar to other brands, configuration is much more simple, which works out great for Indonesian people."
"Sangfor is a good solution that provides a WAF and firewall solution; most other vendors, like Sophos and Fortinet and Cisco, only provide one solution, and that's a valuable feature of Sangfor."
"The support from Sangfor NGAF here in Pakistan is great."
"I think the tool has the feature to detect and kill ransomware in three seconds."
"It offers application control features."

Cons

"The firmware updates are sometimes not stable. The stability issues can vary, sometimes happening once a month or quarterly. New firmware updates can occasionally introduce bugs, causing some policies to fail. We then have to raise a ticket, and Fortinet usually provides a fix within a few days."
"The solution could have licensing fees reduced in the future."
"FortiGate NGFW can improve technical support. The engineer who answers the technical support call, email, or phone call, whatever the medium may be. The response time is very bad."
"We had some issues with the local support, particularly with regard to purchasing the subscription."
"Over time, there is a lot of worry about insecurity. For big accounts, we are not able to satisfy the customer with the Fortinet firewall because they ask for a lot of features."
"We would like to have the ability to disable some of the security functionalities."
"With FortiGate, the main complaint that I have heard is about the technical support."
"In the past six to seven years with the Fortinet FortiGate, we've had two major downtimes, both caused by firmware upgrades."
"As far as what needs to be improved — nothing really comes to mind. It does what we need it to do."
"Could possibly use deeper configurations."
"You can only have one tunnel in the whole infrastructure — one tunnel with one device."
"The Cisco supply chain is problematic although that may not be all their fault."
"It would be nice to get detailed logging information without third-party software."
"Data is the only path, so optimization is essential."
"Expensive licensing and firewall stops immediately working if the licence is not renewed at the expiration date."
"The product could incorporate tools like ThousandEyes into the system so we can see things directly."
"Sangfor need greater exposer in the market because the market is mainly saturated by Fortinet. The user experience of Fortinet is quite different compared to NGAF. If we want to switch our users from Fortinet to NGAF, we have to convince them that the user experience will be much easier once once they start to use it."
"The tool is expensive."
"The cost of licensing is very high compared to other firewalls available here. There should be improvements in hardware scalability, allowing for more storage and memory capacity."
"The setup phase is quite complex."
"Scalability for any network device is not very easy in terms of vertical scalability."
"Sangfor could improve their interface capacity on the 5100 series model and upgrade their hardware from one gig to 10 gig. This would improve the overall throughput."
"They need to improve their research team and they need to study their data to analyze it and build the product."
"The firewall system needs gradual improvements because there are more threats and challenges in the world every day."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is justified. It's a little pricey, but what you pay for is what you get."
"We pay for the solution annually."
"I rate the price of Fortinet FortiGate SWG a seven and a half out of ten since it is not a cheap solution, though I feel it is a good product for the money one pays."
"It is not the cheapest one, but its price is very competitive."
"The pricing for the product is alright."
"The pricing or licensing of Fortinet FortiGate is quite effective as it offers different bundles that aggregate most required features, while also allowing clients the option to select specific components alone."
"The license of Fortinet FortiGate should be reduced."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is reasonable."
"The larger MX products are on the expensive side."
"We just have to pay for the product and the license. We have a license for three years, and it is renewed every three years. It costs $1,200 for three years for one endpoint. Meraki had a good promotion for remote workers or remote workforce. The discount is very good. This promotion continues till the next fiscal year of Cisco."
"The price could be lower, but compared to the TCO of other products, it's not really that expensive."
"Pricing varies as per the type of license."
"It can always improve pricewise regarding throughput."
"I think the price is comparable with other solutions of the same kind. Depending on the use case it could be cheaper or more expensive, I think it offers good value."
"The product’s pricing depends on the discount Cisco gives to different people."
"The solution is expensive."
"The product is very cost-effective compared to other brands or vendors."
"In my opinion, the price of the tool is good in the Pakistani market. We can easily get discounts if needed."
"We purchased one year technical support and return to factory support, and we also purchased one-year technical support services. So those were additional."
"For four to five physical appliances for a licensed firewall, it costs approximately $4,000."
"The price could be more competitive."
"The license of Sangfor NGAF can be purchased at different interval lengths, such as annually or three years. They offer a range of packages to choose from, such as combo or hybrid packages. We are using the complete solution package which includes IM, NGF and SSL VPN, and WAF."
"Sangfor NGAF price is reasonable and there is an annual license. However, the maintenance cost can be a bit high."
"The price is unmatcheable."
